  1. Like the road accident statistics this has been done to death… meaninglessly. Can we not just move onto something that doesn’t induce a coma of Groundhog Day boredom ?
  2. In football parlance - "You don’t know what you’re doing! " ???? Clueless, directionless with no credibility.
  3. Which countries have that written into their legal constitution? I’m struggling to think of any of note.
  4. I think you will find that alcohol is the greatest killer. No he’s correct. Smoking related diseases are far bigger killers. There is,unlike alcohol,no safe amount. That said, prohibition doesn’t work. Education and banning in public places helps is the better incentive along with taxation. It is preposterous to ban vaping and allow smoking.
  5. Ah,so conceding that much mask wearing is a "courtesy " rather than an efficacious medical necessity? I recently returned from Phuket where mask wearing was quite rare even amongst Thais. So your 'mandate' that people follow argument falls apart - and then collapses when you were dumbstruck for an answer when I challenged you on the widely ignored helmet wearing mandate .
  6. Their not "there" for a start. To further educate you on face to face communication try understanding the amount of unconscious lip reading along with other communicating facial expressions inherent in face to face interchange. Why do you think Zoom conferences are so important ?You may have so little of value to communicate that perhaps a disconnected voice is all that’s required.
  7. It’s called "constructive criticism " and far more preferable to blind acceptance, especially viewed in context of a non democratic institution imposing them. I was much in favour of mask wearing when it may have been helpful especially in the pre vaccination era. It has now become seen as largely unnecessary in current circumstances and you are forgetting the negative aspects, particularly the vital social aspect of communication by seeing the face of with whom you are communicating. You may want to examine the hypocrisy of your accusation of another "pushing their own views" when that’s exactly what you are doing by suggesting someone else shouldn’t offer constructive criticism and just accept blind acquiescence.
  8. Because you in front is driving a diesel......????.....???? That diesel is orders of magnitude more likely to kill you by running into you than poison you ! ????
  9. Thais "Risk averse" ?! ???? Then explain the appalling Road death statistics, the associated low level of helmet wearing and the generally poor/reckless driving commonplace. For further evidence, the poor health and safety practices vs the countries you compare with. You are correlating unthinking mindless actions with considered practices. Why are many riding a scooter outdoors, fully masked but with no helmet? ???? ????
  10. I’ll refer you to Hanlon’s razor and the Dunning Kruger effect which explains everything.
  11. We KNOW what planet from whence they always speak … the 7th one of course !
  12. Correct, and I was aware of that . The ‘discount' would be applied by the judge in setting the minimum term. My answer was a reply to the general question of discounts
  13. He was already extradited- TO Thailand. He will likely be deported to U.K. at an appropriate time under international agreement to serve the remainder of his sentence in U.K. That may well not happen until he pays the compensation…. If he has it (it’s £300k)?
  14. RIP ??? When you’re dead you simply no longer exist and feel nothing- exactly the same for everyone.
  15. Most countries (including your own) have a ‘discount' for early guilty plea. In U.K. it’s 1/3rd - dependent on the sentence. So it’s just a question of the amount. The compensation stipulated (more useful to the family) is not something that is part of the sentence in U.K. (though there are government awards via Criminal compensation system). I presume he’s not released until that amount is paid ?.. but it’s quite considerable and conceivably he doesn’t have it - what then ?
  16. Still VERY cheap. £1.80 litre in U.K. = 77 baht litre!
  17. A trite cliché not terribly conversant with the economics of supply and demand, not to mention the fallout from Covid lockdowns. Where is paper and milk quoted as being in short supply? Must do better-even for a tongue in cheek post !
  18. Alcohol promotes faster /reckless driving due to reduced inhibition while a stoned driver tends to drive much more slowly and hesitantly than normal . Both impair judgement/reaction times so both to be avoided!
  19. Yesterday’s article in the Times reported rampant inflation in accommodation/car hire etc. costs in most European resorts and in U.K. holidays itself . £1000 for weeks car hire! Air fares were cheap though. Having recently spent 2cweeks in Phuket I got great deal on the upmarket hotel and eating out was cheap. Diesel is almost a third of the U.K. price here too,not to mention gas and electricity prices vs Europe! . So once here - and I agree with complaints about stupid Thai pass- it is still very cheap ,even in Phuket . Daughter arrives here shortly for 2 weeks (£640 return air fare from Manchester) and I reckon overall will be cheaper than many European resorts.
  20. This is nothing to do with standard entry requirements ,which of course vary between citizens and foreigners in all countries , but this relates to health /contagion issues . In that respect a foreigner and a Thai entering carry exactly the same risk of passing on infection so there’s no logic in discriminating on those grounds . But then logic and critical thinking have always been lacking in the Thai thought process.
  21. My Thai daughter and her English partner are coming in June. He obtained Thai pass by uploading his standard U.K. travel insurance policy. As long as it includes Covid cover there appears no requirement to buy the Covid specific Thai policy
  22. Was in Karon about 2 months ago for 11 days. A lot closed but from a tourist perspective enough restaurants and a number of bars open to suffice,so if you like relative peace and not bothered about the buzz from many being around it was better than a normal situation. Also negotiated a great discounted rate at the hotel reception after an initial 2 day booking via Booking.com which is generally unheard of ! Strangely though on both our speedboat tours to Similans and Phi Phi the boats were absolutely full . I thought they were good value too with discounted rates via the stall (agent) in Karon .
