Debating you is like trying to play chess with a pigeon; it knocks the pieces over, cr@ps on the board, and flies back to its flock to claim victory. -

Sorry but I don't understand what you are saying as you are using a double negative. They don't have troubled areas or I just didn't see the trouble? Please clarify. -

I lived in Whitechapel, East Ham, South Croydon and Brixton (albeit for only 3 months) for the better part of 25 years. Do you think I know what I am talking about? -

A population of 75 million and you post a video of 4 guys walking around Whitechapel and a dozen blokes shouting for Sharia Law. Get real. -

Not lucky, just not as biased as you. You equate problems to skin colour whereas I equate it to social environment and surroundings. And I noticed that most of you still haven't commented on my post when I told you I lived in Whitechapel. Was my first hand, lived there for 6 years, still have a flat there experience a bit too accurate and therefore probably correct for you all? I lived there (and in East Ham and South Croydon) and kbnow for sure what you are all trying to say happens, actually DOESN'T. -

In my home town there was always violence, theft, muggings and 'being naughty' but not a single one of them is carried out by 'non-whites'. How do I know this? Because my town in Scotland only had 2 Chinese families and one Indian family. We still had crime though because like most UK towns, we had poverty and deprived areas. In England it's just unfortunate that a lot of 'non-whites' live in these areas, giving the impression it's an ethnic thing rather than a poverty thing. And there isn't Sharia Law in the UK, only UK law so there's really nothing to comment on as it is yet another non-event. -

Got anything more recent than being a cab driver 52 years ago or the death of a police-man 37 years ago? Your viewpoint was formed when you were a cabbie and sadly hasn't changed at all since then despite huge strides in social justice and integration. Now all you do is try and find eveidence to back up your ill-thougt out racism and cherry pick very rare occurances in an attempt to paint a picture of the UK that I never saw in the 40 years I lived there (25 of which was in London). -

What's unbelievable is you trying to justify current non-events with riots that happened 41 years ago. Obviously race is a factor but the point is poverty is the main one as a LOT of ethnic minorities also live in very deprived areas and experience high levels of poverty. -

johnnybangkok replied to CharlieH's topic in UK & Europe Topics and Events
Real but cherry picked. We can all show videos of a VERY small amount of bitter and marginalised people who are tring to stir up trouble and try to make it look like the norm. It isn't so please stop trying to make it sound like it is. -

What a complete straw-man argument. ALL of these occured in 1981. That's 41 years ago now. And all of them happened in particularly deprived areas that were just as much white as they were ethnic. These riots had nothing to do with race and EVERYTHING to do with poverty. -

So you post a video showing a few idiots taking the law into their own hands and that's your justification for the nonsense you are spouting? Since you seem to have a thing about people experiencing these things for themselves and lambasting others that haven't, have you got much experience of this particular area? No? Well I do. I lived in Whitechapel for 6 years before coming to Bangkok and still have a flat there (your video is filmed around the corner from where my flat is). In the whole time I lived there and every time I have visited (usually twice a year), I have never seen or experienced anything like what you are trying to paint here. It's a predominately muslim area, but also very quiet and respectful with families and individuals just going about their day-to-day business. There's always a large precence at the mosque shown but as you can see from the video, the VAST majority of the muslims in the area want nothing to do with these nutters and routinely condemn their actions. These are non-events, blown out of proportion by right-wingers in an attempt to justify their racist beliefs. Anyone can cherry pick whatever they want to justify their stance (which is exactly what you are doing here) but before you start your ill-thought out crusade perhaps it's better to get a view-point from someone who has actual first-hand experience. That would be me in this case and I can categorically tell you (because I know for sure), you are absolutely wrong. -

Exactly. There’s no “big plan” there’s no advanced thinking. There’s just surviving. Great Presidents inspire. They perpetuate a collective good that will always be the majority. Most people are good and just want to do the right thing. That’s hopefully why whannabe dictators like Trump will lose BUT, you need to get dirty with gangsters. They don’t understand “doing the right thing “. You need to get medieval on their ass. You have to make them understand that the law is the bedrock of your nation. And no one is higher than the law. Find the crime and then take a very large book and drop it from about 70 foot. -

It’s a Legitimate question but I honestly believe it’s just not that sophisticated. You have definitely got to question the stupidity of someone who not only should know the law but actually lengthened the penalty for exactly what he is doing. That’s just top drawer shoot yourself in the foot. However, I just keep coming back to how self absorbed he is and how he probably didn’t think it applied to him. We would all like to think there’s some genius behind the madness but it’s really just madness. “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.” Joseph Goebbels. But the good news is there’s a lot of people who also see the madness and how history has shown how wrong this thinking is. It’s galvanizes people. It makes them aware. There’s no better forced awareness than Trump. Even the ardent Trumpers on here have slowly but surely dropped away. It’s super hard to justify Trump these days. I mean we can only get to page 6 before they gave up. Anyway, fight the good fight guys. Dont let the bar stewards get you down. -

I would love that something like this could take ol' Teflon Don down. It's Al Capone and his taxes. This guy has just been the worst. Not a single redeeming quality to the point that his fans when asked about his major acheivements list, 'well he didn't start a war'. This is why I have no respect for his fans or indeed Republicans in general. When your last 'greatest hit' was Eisenhower 62 years ago, you've got to start wondering whether you're really truly open to new ideas and change or whether you just firmly want to stay in the past. They'll quote Reagan to try and distpute this but Reagans' claim to fame is making rich people even richer, fighting a losing drugs war or pulling down the iron curtain in which he just happened to be POTUS (whilst the true accolades should go to a real world changer; RIP Gorbachev). As a Brit I don't think we have such extremes. Extremes don't work in the UK. You just can't be this corrupt, incompetant (although Boris has tried his best) and antagonistic and get so far. It's amazing to the rest of the world how far Trump has got and how much he continues to influence America. And it's not like he's a lone voice in the wilderness; he's tapped into an awful lot of what Americans really think and is fervently followed. Now I'm not naive to think this is all of American, but he did become POTUS and he did get 70m votes last time. Ultimately you have to start asking Really America! I mean REALLY? -

You'd have a point if we didn't know how self-serving he is, how dangerous he could be and how much form he already has. Lets look at the character of Trump.. Lets start with David Duke, a former Klan grand wizard, saying “the fact that Donald Trump’s doing so well, it proves that I’m winning”, followed by every far-right nuttjob throughout America loving the guy. You know the saying - not every Trump fan is a racist but every racist is a Trump fan! Then you could just go straight ahead to his direct criminal activity when he had to voluntarily (and very publically) disband his own charity when he admitted to using the funds to 'promote his presidential bid and pay off business debts' WHILST being President (how he still remained POTUS after this one still dumbfounds me). And last but by no means least, how he declared the whole of US democarcy 'a fix' (and continues to do so), then incites a riot aimed at preventing a democractically elected President from taking office. I use these three examples (out of literally 100's) because they 100% happened and not even Trump fans deny them anymore (but do stay tuned for the deflections, the gaslighting and of course a bit of straw-man to keep you all entertained). Here's the thing though, I don't think Trump IS a racist, nor a real criminal nor a traitor to his own country, I just think he's just a simple user and opportunist. This was how he was brought up; whatever he wanted he knew he could be got with corny persuasion, lots of money or when all else fails, a bit of strong arming. He will use anyone and anything to get what he wants and the poor little reality show star is now so way out of his depth and running out of options that if all else fails he might just go all scorched earth on the whole f@ckin thing to avoid jail. An inoccent person would try to calm the situation and letting the law do it's thing. They wouldn't be re-Tweeting or even repeating someone saying “If there is a prosecution of Donald Trump for mishandling classified information after the Clinton debacle… there’ll be riots in the streets' unless as a thinly veiled threat. That's the work of someone trying to stir the pot and if you don't see that then you are just being willful ignorant. It's a call to arms. He's already casually mentioned the planting of evidence by the FBI (leading to huge ant-FBI feeling and even attacks). He's daily shouting 'corruption, witch hunt, establishment cover-up'. The fire is burning and he's throwing nepalm on it. And the problem is that after years and years of stoking fear, preying on peoples insecurity, inciting their xenaphobia, plying them with a regular daliy dose of distrust and hatred of the federal government, these people are ready to blow. This may get waaaaaaaaaaaay out of hand. -

You're really not doing very well here are you? This has been explained to you several times now by individuals who are MUCH more knowledgeable than yourself but like your hero Trump, you just keep digging. Please get yourself aquanted with the definitions of the subjects you are commenting on. This having to explain it all again and again is really getting very tedious. -
Could your 'personal observation' be more to do with the media's obsession with pointing these things out rather than anything you have actually experienced yourself? There is a culture war going on; with right-wing media lambasting anyone who is remotely 'woke' in their actions and the left-wing media finding the most riduculous fault with anything that isn't politically correct. However, if you try and read between the sensationalism you will find that the average man in the street is now more aware of racism, homophobia, sexism, xenophobia etc which on the whole, must be good. As they say, you need to break a few eggs to make an omellette and perhaps this is the egg-breaking that needs to go on before we all get to enjoy the omellette.

Excellent post and clearly outlines the key differences between the two situations. However, it won't matter to the MAGA brigade whose cognitive dissonance as far as Hillary is concerned supercedes all logic and reasoning. This constant 'but, but Hillary...' has now gone on for some 6 years (probably longer when you count all the numerous probes she's successfully defended) but it still doesn't deter the MAGites (new word for them) bringing up numerous false equivalents in defence of the indefensible coming from Trump. This poor woman has had to endure probe after investigation after Senate committee in defence of so many things (to include the recent John Durham non- event) and has passed (mostly) with flying colours. If Trump was half the man that Hillary is, we wouldn't be having these conversations. -

So wrong about so many things it's quite breathtaking to behold. 1 Horrible Biden economy - well he certainly seems to be doing fine with jobs (which most people care about) US employment 2020 - 147.8M 2021 - 152.58M 2022 - 158.28M. 528,000 including 528,000 new jobs in July alone. https://www.statista.com/statistics/269959/employment-in-the-united-states/ 2. Record inflation - this is a worldwide issue and not just America's problem. 3 Insane green agenda - yeah because saving the planet isn't particulalrly important. 4 Nation breaking debt levels - The national debt rose by almost $7.8 trillion during Trump’s time in office. https://www.propublica.org/article/national-debt-trump 5 Biden is mentally failing - no he's not. Stop listening to Fox. 6 60 billion in Ukraine spending with weapons going - not even close, try $5.3 billion https://www.defense.gov/News/Releases/Release/Article/3049483/fact-sheet-on-us-security-assistance-to-ukraine/ 7 The hoax that was covid is out of the bag - You are really showing your tin-foil hat with this one so why don't you tell all the families, friends and loved ones of the 6 million who have already died, including myself who's friend of 54 years old (fit and no pre-existing ailments) died from Covid? If your going to comment on these sort of things, at least do the minimum of research.- 265 replies
