  1. Hi guys,i need some quick advice before i book one of these hotels in next few days please

gonna be in c mai again 7th april - 30th april.

booked online for my last stay at christmas, and got a superior room at the SURIWONGSE for 1100baht a night.

I notice i can get Superior(deluxe) room at the Better DUANGTAWAN for 1400 baht(1200 for run of the house! much difference?)

can anyone advise,is duangtawan worth 300baht more than suriwong?

i was very happy with suriwong, apart from building work opposite constantly! is it still going on?.I liked the room though, huge bed,and air con was great(never used it at xmas)but used it last songkran and very good

I have read good reviews on duangtawan, apart from the very slow lifts, and poor aircon! is this true, good aircon imperitive at songkran.

also suriwong charge 500baht more for 12-15 april, but duangtawan states same charge jan - october

    advice appreciated.thanks

  2. there is quite a nice indian, just above mcdonalds.no advertising anywhere really,so maybe not many people know about it.only went once but quite good.my favourite eaterie is a nice french restaurant next door to stairway to heaven on loh kroh road, visited alot and will do again over songkran when i arrive back

    Foxy,

Stairway to heaven long gone. Dunno about The french restaurant though but id imagine the ambience there might be interesting. French food with llots of "Hello Welcome" all around.

was their alot of christmas, must of got the name wrong.two up from marlin bar.ambience is ok,bars leave you alone once you in there.very good food.i know the bar next door used to have @go go@ upstairs, but not anymore.

  4. Many of the hotel/condo buildings in CM offer two levels of accommodation. If you pay by the night you get electricity/water/fresh towels/sheets every night for free. In this way it resembles a hotel/guesthouse and you pay the appropriate rates say 600bt a night. If you rent the same room by the month you pay separately for electricity & water and usually pay for maid service each time you use it. This is condo accommodation and you pay much less for it, maybe 6000bt a month.

I am sure that Tawan Court Hotel I mentioned only charges 6-7,000 a month, but 600 a night, so thats pretty good value for a hotel, can be as little as 200-250B a day!

thanks for that, but are there any websites, for tawan or any others condos around night bazzar area,as i would like to book in advance.dont fancy my chances of getting a decent place if i just turn up,especially week before songkran! cheers

  5. Sounds like Royal Lanna would suit you. It's right where you want to be at the junction of Loi Kroh and the Night Bazaar, just across from the Suriwongse, and I think they weekly or monthly rentals. Try this number - 053 818 773.

do you have a link or website for this place.this is what i keep finding, and it is classed as a hotel.over 1000baht a NIGHT.how can this be a condo.see link

  6. hi guys,im back in cm for songkran 6th april for 4 weeks.at christmas i stayed at suriwongse for 3 week for 1100baht a night.I might get a condo this time,i heard i can i get a good condo with all the luxaries around this area?(heard there are some around red lion).if so can anyone give me any names.willing to pay a monthly rate, maybe 10,000-15000 for the month.also what is different about a condo vs a hotel.never been in one before.i want good air con as gonna be scorching, good safety deposit, huge bed, fridge,tv etc.thanks

  7. it is awesome,i cant describe when i come back to the uk and tell people.its a mix between the rio carnival and a night out in glasgow maybe.i got back to the uk mid january, but will be back april for a month.i cant wait.very good natured fun,in the best city in thailand.heaven!

  8. johns place, lucky bar,bar beer centre, bubble, spicy.all located around the moat, kotchasarn road, tapae area.spotlight bar is ok before midnight, but full of old men in for the grope.

  9. Best place to watch Leeds United...........................................on a video from 30 years ago :o

maybe 5 years ago, champions league semi final.we did it without abramovich-have you got the semis in last 20-30 years! typical response from a chelsea fan, maybe you remember when the leeds fans/players used to kick your ass in the 70's so i am told.we dont need to be successfull for great support,no part timers at leeds.happy spending

  10. hi guys,i would not advise a stay at the suriwong at the moment.i booked in and paid until 14th jan.if you are like me and get in at 6/7am

Where do you go till 7 in the morning in Chiang Mai :o

i think he wants to stalk you , i think i want to stalk her too :D

many places open til around 6am or longer,i hate spicy by the way,its like a like an animal market with people groping etc usually people from the middle east,iv seen many israelies get a slap from thai/falangs maybe not liked in these parts too much.lucky bar is ok,some good thais and falang in there.maybe i drink too much vodka red bull thus why i cannot sleep.also cold at night, first visit iv had that i never used air con.still could be back in england with snow!

  11. hi guys,i would not advise a stay at the suriwong at the moment.i booked in and paid until 14th jan.if you are like me and get in at 6/7am then do your sleeping its not easy as major building work going on outside at the moment from 7am each morning.starting to get annoying to say the least.ok if you are one for early nights

  12. Forget Malaria, it's Dengue you need to watch out for.

Get some repellent which has 80% DEET  in it and cover yourself with it at sunup and sundown.

I only know of Bushman repellent gel, does anyone else know of another good brand with 80% DEET?

Which country are you in now?

i am in england.thanks everyone for the replies,i wont bother then as come to think of it the nurse said i didnt need it last time if just visiting cm bkk etc

  13. hi,just been for another booster jab before i depart on monday(hep a /typhoid etc)

i just got a letter from the nurse saying we did not discuss malaria cover!and get in touch but the surgery closed and i leave monday.

i need to know, with it being winter in c mai, will all the mosquitos have gone? ie will i need to go to the nurse just before i leave monday to get cover.am i in any danger in c mai during dec/jan of malaria.please inform thanks

  14. hi guys,we arrive in cm on tuesday night 20th dec.just wondering if any bars/clubs have anything different planned for the xmas period, special events/parties.or is it just as normal?i take it cm will be very busy, but not as busy as songkran was.cheers

  15. hi guys.i have just been to this site -www.hotels.chiangmai-online.com

i want to stay in superior room for 25 nights at suriwongse hotel.

very cheap at 1100 baht (compared to hotel price 1700baht!)

apparantly you need to book by credit card for 1 night in advance

this is fine as i dont want to pay for full stay on-line.

am i right in thinking i can reserve this period by paying for 1 night, online, and then paying the full amount during or at the end of my stay to the actual hotel in baht.

hope you can help.thanks in advance

ps.also i have requested double bed, single occupancy.now it states same price for 2 people sharing room,is there more chance in getting double bed if i book for 2 people? i take it its same price whether 1 or 2 people share a room.thanks

  16. i have stayed there, not the best hotel for 800 baht a night, air con is cr*p,room average.good location though.few hundred baht more suriwongse hotel, again great location 1 minute walk from bazzar, great big room, great hotel.i will be staying there end of december,as my favourite

Have you got a web site for The Suriwongse that is not a Hotel booking Compamy site?

    http://www.suriwongsehotels.com/home.htm

    there you go

although i have to say,http://www.hotels.chiangmai-online.com/zenith.html is much cheaper rates than hotels own rates for some reason!

  17. good clubs, not great clubs in cm.only really bubble, then spicy bar/club til 6am.x-zone good thai club.can you tell me,how is christmas/year celebrated in thailand/cmai and is it a busy time for tourists.ps chuchok there is a site for the hotel i will try and find it

  19. Have you tried anywhere else in Thailand then.

Cm is not that famous for its nightlife :o

I once stayed for the day only on a deserted island near pattaya.

Me and 2 other people on the whole island.

It was out of this world. :D

yes been to bangkok, pattaya,ko phangan for full moon, samui.but love the people in chiang mai and the chilled outness of it all.bangkok is great for a while but its too in ya face, loved the full moon party.didnt like pattaya too much,a bit sleazy for my liking.might try laos for a few days

  20. Looks like I`d better leave those white socks at home then  :D

What is your favorite bar then miss Foxy  :o

havnt really got a favourite, many are same same as the annoying saying goes.felt iv missed out on not knowing where the 'classier bars' are.maybe someone could recommend me some top haunts

i went to X-zone club a few times,me and my friends only falangs, but we were made to feel, not out of place.spent alot of time in the usual spots-bar beer centre, spotlight bar, bubble(music pure cheese couple of years behind the times)is there anywhere that plays modern house/trancey vibes?

peak pool bar was good to start off, spicy til 6am was a last resort

anyway our flights are booked, and we land at cm 20th dec to january 18th and i cant wait, england is so cold.book the duangtwan hotel as iv had good reports.

first christmas away from home,is a big party over xmas/new year?

Not really sure about Xmas as I usually stay in Pattaya.

New year is Ok in Cm but then again it is ok anywhere. :D

So what you doing during the day then?

    Trekking or sightseeing?

Have you been as far as Sankampaeng Hot Springs yet?

during the day! ha. usually stay in bed until 3pm ish.very lazy i am.not really one for trekking etc.i am very much a night person

i know its strange travelling to thailand and not doing alot, but the place just keeps dragging me back, the whole aura of it.

  21. My friend has tried to book a similar time to be and was quoted £1200...

    I paid £620 this is from Newcastle-Amsterdam-Bkk

Thai was £800 from London and I had to make my owm way to London..

i book as early as possible,China Airlines have been full for these dates for about 3 months now...

i relly struggled to get a flight from 20th dec - 18th jan

manchester-dubai-bangkok £826 i got lucky, hardly any left, ones left are over £1000.if i would of flown january flights only 550.but wanted to experience xmas/new year in c mai.anyone else arrive around the 20th dec

  23. I'm glad you pointed out that in this context British means English. Other nationalities unfortunately have to share that island and often get tarred with the same brush.  :D

Just as well pal or you'd now be a Kraut :o

Krauts, as you know have much better manners.

Goodview is more fun than the Riverside.

you can always spot a kraut as opposed to a brit.white socks, sandals, bum bag,sh*t haircut.

is it me or are we brits(and maybe the italians and thai's)the smartest nationality who have a bit of fashion sense.go in bubble ie and its a sea of fashion disasters and the scandinavians are desperate dressers too.personally i feel overdressed when i go out in thailand dressed as i do in leeds(england) wearing nice jeans and a shirt/t-shirt.find it scruffy going out in their attire, but thats just me.
