How about the Tuk Tuk drivers ganging up on unsuspecting Farang (alone) outside of that dump Spicy? :o

How about the Tai Yai guys who get attacked on a regular basis (usually alone) as they have no bank account and carry what little hard earned cash they have iwth them and of course the obligatory moblie. :D In these cases the BIB will not offer any assistance. When they're attacked they more than likely will come back with their crew after breing released from the hospital and it's on then, machetes a flying. As for them getting away free that's not always true, if you pay the BIB they can track them down but this costs extra (this service is not included in your municipal tax charge) :D

Good luck on your late night travels,

    SDH.

surely its not so bad that we cannot even feel safe getting into a tuk tuk outside spicy or any bar/club in the tourist area.

so lone farang get attacked now by tuk tuk drivers! iv never even seen a miserable tuk tuk driver.maybe because im young pleasant and friendly to inhabitants of their own country,i have always felt safe, and never raised my voice or tryed to con a thai

i can imagine many people who are about to embark on their first visit to thailand alone, such threads(or certain statements) will no doubt scare them off.if c mai is bad,i hate to think what pattaya is like

  2. To answer the question why Sunderland ? it is because a certain person keeps coming on here namely Sunderland to snipe at our predicament. For the record I have no axe to grind with Sunderland fans in general, just losers like him. So any chance I can find to rub his nose in it I will take.

Only kidding, he likes winding me up I like winding him up perfect really. :o

    God Bless

    23

sunderland will never be as big as leeds, they will never win the top league in the foreseeable future,or get to a european cup final.no billionaire will take over a poor city.

also last time sunderland in premier league, attendance down in 20,000s when they started to struggle(pretty quick)

boos galore, not getting behind the club when they need it.

i was at elland road today,we are so united as a club atm as we feel everyone is against us,even cack teams like huddersfield revel in our 15point pen.they will feel the force of our team and fans on dec 10th :D

sunderland is also a sh*t hole of a city, poor relations to newcastle, where as leeds is the fastest growing city in england.

  3. Hey Rachel,

It was nice to meet you and see your bar! I'm looking forward to going out to some club with you some day! Hopefully we can get a bunch of people come with us and have fun :o Yesterday I already got to know some pretty good clubs, I wasn't home before 6 am! :D

    See ya!

    -Mirka

    hi mirka and welcome.

so what clubs did you check out?

did you try V club at all or fashion house, both good clubs with good music

hope you avoided bubble and spicy lol

  4. must it be Emirates ?

been with 'em loads of times and they're no different/better than any other. If you're departing from Man, you have other options to BKK...

Turkish, Etihad, KLM, Quatar, Thai Airways (via LHR & BA) etc.. etc..

1000 pounds is not what i pay at that time of year.

no it doesnt have to be with emirates,in fact i dont even like dubai airport (people ignorant etc)

i tryed etihad a few for around 950 for sat 22nd, but it means waiting in abu dhabi for over 7 hours in some cases for connecting flights and some even via heathrow, and with insurance more than emirates for a worse airline!!! nothing much around atm even for all the airlines price hikes...strange though that emirates has been £1000 all year long for this time of year.

will have to just pay it,if it doesnt come down, providing its still their in a month.

    worst case scenerio - go 2nd - 21st jan for £500

  5. I had the same problem last Christmas. Flying on the 23rd from Glasgow, Emirates were the cheapest i could find and they wanted something like a grand. All i can say is keep checking everyday, the price came down to around £700 when i bought my ticket but that's still expensive. I was checking regularly and flight prices were changing all the time. Saying that, i didn't actually book it until 3 weeks before i was due to fly so that's probably why the price was varying so much.

    Good Luck.

    thanks james.

i think i will hold on for another month or 2 and hope they come down, cant see the flights selling out at tthe current price.sure i booked around october last year at £750.i have friend flying out on 2nd january - only costing them £500 with emirates!!!!

then again if they do drop their prices soon, surely that is punishing people who have booked early and paid £1000,i never understand that,as i was told once by emirates that when the flight gets fuller the prices for the seats left increase in price.

will just have to wait and see

  6. a thousand quid ? that is rediculous..

just done a search on dial a flight - Man to BKK, 21st Dec (assumed a 2 week stay) Best price was 530 quid inclusive.

    shop around...

That must be for two people. I can't see emirates charging a grand for one person, unless you have good discount for business class. Then i would say you've got a bargain.

i can assure you its £1000 give or take 50.for 1 person economy class.iv used emirates to bangkok 3 times before at christmas and this is much higher than usual, even for the other airlines too, klm,ba etc

iv checked travelbag/ebookers,emirates website,airline-network,cheapflights,travel supermarket(finds best price from every website)!!!

cheapest iv seen is around 800 with el itad, but dont fancy that.

will check out dial a flight thanks,

but very much doubt i will get emirates under £1000 for emirates as around 10 websites all quoting the same prices as the emirates website

  7. i usually come to thailand december(just b4 Christmas) and april(songkran)

now usually the prices with emirates are £750 in late december and around £550 april

atm im looking at £1000 for 21 december(been this price for 6 months)

is the price likely to drop,as im sure it usually drops if the flights are not full, and £1000 seems a bit steep.or have air prices suddenly gone up?

    thanks

  8. Maybe if you took a poll of the amount of blokes in Thailand who do infact have ex-bargirl wives then you'd understand the stereotype? :o

Or maybe it would prove the stereotype totally wrong! who knows.

flip side of the coin - if an englishman for instance brought a thai girl/woman back to england,he/she will be judged far more and talked about than in thailand.

its always gonna happen.even if the thai girl is of good position.people love to gossip and judge,i do it myself as do most people.

but the facts are, most westerners with a thai girl are a fair bit older than the girl(those who call them girlfriends anyway)this is why here in britain we refer to 'thats paid for',that just how it goes.where as i know lots of young english who think because they do it,and dont have to pay for it(because of the guys looks and young ages) then they are not as bad as the ones that pay for it.

in fact they all pay for it in one way or another with bg's as they pay for drinks, even if they never have to pay for sex etc.

  9. I plan to spend a few weeks in CNX in January and am

wondering about what seem to be THE hardcore ravers'

place : the Boost club (turn right 2km after Chiang Mai Lang).

Is it still alive and worth a visit ?

    JH. :o

v club is usually packed - old skool, house and trance

volume one quite good club as is monkey club and fashion house.oh and discovery.

bubble is terrible, music about 5 years behind the times.

dont think anywhere plays hardcore(i take it you mean acid house/old skool rave)

  10. hey all,

I'm a poor college student who's relatively new to the whole traveling business. I've always wanted to go to thailand though, and I was hoping to do so during my winter holiday off uni. it starts a few days before christmas and ends about a week and half into january.

And I know that this would be considered one of the peak seasons to travel not only because it's the holiday season, but because it's one of the nicer times to go see thailand. But are tickets supposed to be $2,000?? I don't have much experience booking airline tickets online, but everywhere I've looked such as hotwire, STAtravel, travelocity, kayak, etc. it's been that expensive. By the way, I'm coming off the east coast of the U.S.A. I also don't know whether or not to fly directly to the islands at Phuket or into Bangkok city, but I've been putting Phuket as the destination. (changing it to bangkok doesn't make much of a price difference)

I think I would be OK if it was under $1500, but even that is a bit pricey for me.

So are tickets normally that expensive and will they stay that expensive forever? Because I really can't afford anything above $1500.

Please help this is giving me a headache,

    alex

basically dont book a flight for at least a few months.i always fly out to bangkok just before christmas for at the most £750(1500$) and thats with a good airline such as emirates(thai airways cheaper, maybe £600)

the prices for the week i want to fly are currently £950,what happens is the prices come down to the proper level around september time for some reason!

not sure where you are from(if usa and not britain, not sure what airline is cheapest for you)

suggest you try - ebookers, travelbag or airline-network if british

    good luck

    edit-sorry,obviously you are american

  11. PS I have waited a day to post this, because I thought there would be some Liverpool fans with the same tune. It seems though, all the Scousers have been great sportsmen, and taken it on the chin.

I've not seen any reference to your original post anywhere, let alone here.

Most have been expressing various levels of disgust and comment on the moronic behaviour of a section of Liverpool supporters in Athens ala Heysel and Hillsborough.

A tenious handball decision fades into insignificance when we're lucky not be speaking of yet another Liverpool involved disaster.

    ps

I don't blame Liverpool supporters per se. But tend to look at the overall picture. But they do shoulder a great percentage of the responsibility and - drooling at the mouth media apart - have yet again dragged the name of Liverpool FC into the gutter.

totally agree.now us leeds fans are not angels by any stretch but....

these fans basically robbed there way in,at the expense of real fans with REAL tickets.although the greeks were well below standard for organisation.

alot of fans in england cannot stand liverpool fans for many reasons.

    1.heysel

2.hillsborough - tradegy due to fans breaking in again without paying, thus all surging into an already full middle terracing

3.the result - now they have had a good hand in making sure english fans cannot stand in football stadiums post hillsborough, resulting in piss poor atmospheres at most stadiums.

i know full well how this has affected leeds.even with an average team we still always won at home when it was all standing.since all seating atmospher has steadily declined, turning the once feared elland road fortress, into just about a slighty intimidating ground.

thanks scousers(the minority non paying ones, for spoiling it for the atmosphere of english football)

just been watching sky news an interview with a member of the hillsborough trust, whose son died there.basically he says the fans are a discrace, pulling down a fence in athens and pouring into the stadium, creating overcrowding again.these fans have no memories.

  12. best dressed in my opinion are the young stylish english and the italians(thais and particulary japanese present themselves well).most of these tend not to wear sandals, scruffy clothes, stupid dreaded unwashed hair etc(israelis are the pits).

alot of guys ie wear shorts for going out.now if you see a decent pair of designer jeans and a nice top, chances are they are english.americans are mixed, some smart, most couldnt give a toss.would say the germans are by far the worst dressed.

except for the beach resorts, alot of scruffs there from every nation

  13. Oasis. In my life time anyway these guy haves been the greatest rockers,

    No arguement.

    Mark

ditto,in my short life also :o

kasabian are the next best (live band),some including noel gallagher even thinks they are currently the best.

stone roses were great also,my home city band from leeds ...kaiser chiefs are great also(im biased)

  14. The right thread for this I hope?...James Lawton in The Independent..:

Comment and prejudice are free, so are the facts

Rod Liddle, a former BBC person who writes a football column that is capable of sparking a fleeting if almost exclusively morbid interest in his views, tells us of how he and the nation felt when in 1972 Leeds United put on a spell-binding show of keep-ball against a Southampton trounced 7-0.

He said that if Manchester United - who, as it happened, had two weeks earlier conceded five goals at Elland Road - had put on a similar show everybody would have been entranced. But apparently "we" were so entrenched in our hatred of Don Revie's team we were muttering to ourselves, "Go on Bobby Stokes, kick that cultured thug Johnny Giles six feet up in the air. Break a leg or two. Especially Billy Bremner."

One can only guess where and in what state of mind Liddle was in when all this was going on, but the odds are he had been reading similarly overwrought drivel on some southern-circulated backpage.

After insulting gratuitously two of the greatest midfielders ever to play the game, he went on to say that Leeds' "pragmatism and invincibility" brought them only two titles and "nothing in the way of European success". Leeds qualified for Europe every year for 10 years, appeared in five finals, winning two Fairs Cups - which were competed for by clubs placed second in their national leagues - losing one, and finishing runners-up (after disgraceful refereeing) in the European Cup, against Franz Beckenbauer's Bayern Munich, and in the European Cup-Winners Cup.

Break their legs? Comment and prejudice, however crass, is free, but then so are facts. In the end, no team did more than Leeds United to earn a fair hearing.

Needless to say after reading this rebuttal I had to look for the original article; The Times..:

Football’s rough justice favours the big boys

Leeds and West Ham have got off lightly while so-called lesser clubs are the losers

    Rod Liddle

DO YOU remember that game from 1972 when Leeds United, imperious and unassailable, trounced Southampton 7-0 at Elland Road? At one point the Leeds side engaged in a magnificently contemptuous game of keep-ball, the Southampton players scurrying hither and thither wishing that the ground might swallow them up. I reckon if Manchester United did a similar thing today we would be transfixed with awe and respect. Back then, we were instead transfixed with utter hatred. Go on, Bobby Stokes, we will have muttered to ourselves, kick that cultured thug Giles six feet up in the air. Break a leg or two. Especially Billy Bremner.

Leeds were loathed then for their wily pragmatism, their apparent invincibility (an invincibility that, paradoxically, brought them only a couple of league championships and nothing in the way of success in Europe). The loathing continues; their current misery is a source of jubilation throughout the land. Last weekend, on one of the Leeds supporters’ websites, fans of virtually every club across the four divisions posted messages dripping with bile and spite, revelling in the extreme likelihood of Leeds being relegated, for the first time in their history, to what all normal people call Division Three.

I cannot think of another team that could provoke such unanimous dislike – and especially not one from the lower reaches of the second division, a side beset in recent years by the most terrible misfortunes that could afflict a football club, ie Peter Ridsdale and David O’Leary.

As ever, the final satisfaction of seeing Leeds finally consigned to the third division was stolen from us at the last moment, in a very Leedsish manner. To have escaped relegation this weekend Leeds would have needed not only to win at the excellent Derby County but make good a nine-goal deficit on their closest rivals, Hull City. Let’s be clear: they were effectively relegated by last week’s home draw with Ipswich Town.

So to see them suddenly claim sanctuary in administration and have a meaningless 10 points deducted this season rather tarnishes the pleasure we might take in their humiliation. We wanted to see them start next season with minus 10 points: go on, Wisey, sort that one out. But it also seems to me against the spirit of the law and quite possibly against the letter of it. The 10-point deduction is intended as a punishment imposed as a result of a football club living way beyond its means. In Leeds United's case, way, way, way beyond its means. And yet in this instance it is not a punishment at all as Leeds were already down.

And so the laws that apply to the little clubs – such as nearby Rotherham United, forced to claw their way back from a 10-point deduction in a lower division (they almost did it, bless them) and, for that matter, Crawley Town – do not apply to the gilded likes of Leeds. So there we are, another reason to hate them and to further despise the football authorities, who must recognise this as a blatant piece of chicanery but are, as ever, disinclined to do anything about it.

The suspicion persists that there is one law for the big clubs – the Premiership sides, the supposedly sleeping giants from the lower divisions – and one law for the rest. Take, as an example, that footballing academy (by which I mean the likes of Marlon Harewood and Christian Dailly), West Ham; a £5.5m fine that will be wiped out at least sixfold by the money they will get for not being relegated. Now, I have little time for Dave Whelan and his clodhopping Wigan side – an artificially created Premiership club if ever there was one – and still less for al-Fayed’s Fulham. But it is inconceivable that a smaller club would have been treated with the leniency afforded to West Ham: indeed, they weren’t. AFC Wimbledon got told they were being clobbered with an 18-point deduction for fielding an ineligible player, before having this ludicrously severe penalty reduced to three points when the West Ham business hove into view. But still, three points – three points that, if applied equitably, could send West Ham down to the Championship.

The FA, in reaching its conclusion over the Carlos Tevez affair, took note of the fact that the corrupt dealings with the player were not the fault of the loyal West Ham supporters, who shouted really loudly during matches and were decent and blameless human beings. Well, sure, but what of the AFC Wimbledon supporters or, for that matter, the fans of Rotherham? Were they to blame for, respectively, their club’s incompetence in fielding an ineligible player or for sinking into administration? Of course not; they were as loyal and blameless as the West Ham fans. If you wanted prima facie evidence of one rule for the rich, one rule for the poor, you have it in the cases of Leeds United and West Ham.

Rod Liddle sounds like a man with a sharp axe and a busy grindstone to me...

no one likes us,we dont care.we are the new millwall.

really hope morris or revie takes over,we will be back in a few years.

as for the revie days, every pundit hates us,especially those who played against us.couldnt handle the physical side, that coupled with the craft and skill,we destroyed most teams every week.

btw liverpool didnt hate us,they applauded the players at anfield round the stadium with the league trophy.when we won it early 73 i think.b4 i was born lol.

    good fans them scousers

  15. some more nostalgia

11th March 1967 Billy Bremner, captain of Leeds United Football Team, leaving the Elland Road ground. He had just been declared fit to play in the fifth round of the FA cup against Sunderland.

the match was played at elland road , and hosted the all time record crowd for elland road ...57,892.

    anybody know the result ?

this was for the replay at elland road 1-1,a near disaster in the ground, read half way down the link!!

  16. An acquaintance of mine, who is ill and in his 60s was assaulted in Chiang Mai. Most unfortunate, but he and the police got it sorted out. As he left the police station, he was given a cellphone number for 'Tony' -- the undercover cop that has been discussed in this forum before.

My friend has also heard of him and declined to call. An hour later 'Tony' called him and asked if he was sick and lived alone, to which he replied that he was well and lived with many people.

For whatever good it might do, my friend has a meeting scheduled with the US Embassy in Bangkok. Any additional info would be helpful to him.

    Thanks

theres a cop called tony, not sure if hes undercover, who drinks in lucky bar quite often.told me and my friend if we had any trouble to let him know about it.but maybe he's a real cop.i know he owns a guesthouse/condo near night bazzarr i think he said.hangs about with farang and thais.maybe you could ask in lucky.

  17. Aye Aye seems we let Hull kick our arse today just so we could kiss Lufc bye bye

    Taffy

cardiff are the biggest scum around, behind only galatasaray.enjoying mocking the 2 leeds fans stabbed to death in turkey.you shouldnt even be in the english leagues you sheep Sh*ggers.hope risdale sinks u lot as well.

as for mackem fairies,u lot are so part time, glory fans its untrue.remember relegation from prem? during end of season when your team really needed u lot, under 25,000 turned up and booed every game.we get over 30,000 at bottom of championship.anyone can do well with money, look how we did.

6 years ago on wednesday we reach champions league semi v valencia.what have cardiff and macken done, anything to rival that??

yeh everyone hates leeds, cos we were feared in the 70's for no nonsense football, and played and kicked every team off the park.

  18. yeh, they have short memories these sunderland fans.maybe its there inferiotity complex, living in the shadows of newcastle and boro.wait to see if they struggle, then the crowds will really drop as they did in the prem, when they deserted there team when faced with relegation.

  19. If you remember your team of angels where fined 5.5 million quid this week for breaking FA rules

    ie cheating

How's that any more cheating than two on-loan players, from ManUre? They have two Premiership goalkeepers out on loan at Watford and Everton. I didn't think that a Premiership team could loan out players to other Premiership Clubs?

i was there yesterday.we got what we deserved.dennis wise's tactics since he came has been a discrace, the guy and his chimp assistant are clueless.the chav scum that invaded the pitch, were punched out of the ground by other leeds fans who found it a discrace.we had a corner in 6th min of injury time and these scum invaded the pitch.delayed then for 40 minutes!!!

we may go down again, loanees going back, healy, cresswell, lewis, derry etc will go as they wont fancy 3rd div football.

knew cardiff scum would lose at home, bet risdale and dave jones very happy.

what has happenened to my once mighty club

i will still go every week,as most will.shame bradford went down, huddersfield our biggest game lol

  20. I imagine there will be several Hull City fans in a similar situation.

Things took a turn for the worse for LUFC the other day, when Bolton took back the loanee that was playing with you. I must admit though its much nicer being at the other end of the table for a change.

pretty sure we will go down!!! reason being -

cardiff v hull - cardiff hate leeds as we hate them, they cannot go up and in mid table, wont mind losing me thinks

hull v plymouth - hull at home, plymouth nothing to play for.

we need 2 wins, and hope plymouth do well or cardiff surprise us

    not very hopefull
