  1. I am presently in Dongguan and I know of a Bar that gets TrueVisions, can any one tell me whether the FA Cup Final is being shown live on TrueVisions and if so is it with English commentary or will it be Thai ?

  2. Slightly off topic, but reminds me of the supposedly true story of a little old lady in the UK, who one night had a knock on her front door from the TV Licence authorities, enquiring did she have the required TV licence.

Quick as a flash she answered she did not and would refuse to buy one as she had deliberately purchased a Sony TV and was unable to view Japanese channels and, in her opinion had been cheated by the seller.

  3. The pluses that brought me here are

    (1) Inexpensive to live.

    (2) Warm weather

    (3) No feminists

    (4) No political correctness

    (5) I am an elegible bachelor here

    (6) women are submissive and kind by nature

    (7) Everyday life is simple.

The things I miss the most

    (1) Sailing which includes racing in 2 one design fleets plus hrf. And cruising on my sailboat.

    (2) Working around my houses. I actually miss drywalling and painting walls and mowing the yards.

    (3) Catching fresh salmon and crabs and prawns and eating them right away on the boat.

What will keep me from returning.

    (1) Feminist nazis

    (2) Political correctness

    (3) Healthcare going down the tubes.

    (3) Americas influence in my country.

    (4) So many things syndicated same music across the country, same television shows same companies designing malls and shoppping centers etc. It is becoming a cookie cutter world there.

    (5) A consumer world that doesnot support their own nations labour. Buys at the best price and doesnot care where it was made. To me this has a finite end of destroying the economy.I canot stand to be there and watch it happen.

With that all said Thailand is better

[u](3) Americas influence in my country

Must admit we done see many Iraqis or Afghans on here. a big welcome to you :whistling:

  4. Can anyone please tell me how you get the passport photo verified when applying to Hong Kong ? My renewal is due soon. When I last renewed in the UK I had to have my photo verified by a solicitor ( it's mandatory to use a professional - doctor, lawyer etc), and they had to sign to state they had known me for 2 years. What is the criteria for Hong Kong renewals??

You dont need to provide endorsed photo's/ signed renewal application form provided your appearance hasnt changed significantly since your last PP photo

The criteria is not any different in HK over Bangkok or any other Brtish consulate in the world for that matter

Thanks for the help - I've got a lot more wrinkles than 10 years ago, let's hope they don't notice ! :D

Actually, I am not too sure about these comments. I have had four new passports issued by the BE in Bangkok over the years and it was said that if you physically took you passport into them and submitted it, then there was no need to get the picture verified. If you used any other means, such as a courier etc, then the picture had to be verified.

I think it would be sensible to get your picture verified prior to sending it all off to HK

  5. I live and work in China, and yes a number of web sites are blocked, including Facebook, Twitter and Youtube. I downloaded (whilst on a visit to HK) a programme called Freegate and it gets around the problem nicely

  6. Just read this on a Sattelite forum

It might be a wind up or a case of

PureWhere theres a will theres a way

Pure BS Soap, it is all a con.

99% of all the fake DSTV cards (gamma cards) died yesterday and all the originals only have 1/2 their services working since last night.

Ah well less than 3 days to go and it is all gone and those who have already changed are still on business as usual.

I have DSTV in China WITHOUT A CARD and it is not a con its working well and very reliable. however as I am in BKK this week, i dont know if the signal will continue in china. However, if the signal is still being picked up by china, then China can offer to Thailand also. we have one box in Pattaya that is picking up DSTV. Tomorrow is the vinegar day. lets wait and see

  7. DTSV have started today, on screen TV adverts saying the C Band service will cease on 31st MAY 2010.

Now that is interesting. I am getting DSTV in China but not using a smart card and I dont have a monthly subscription, just a one off payment and I have seen no such adverts on screen here, I wonder if its your supplier who is inserting the messages

  8. another way is for you to exchange some NZ dollars and US dollars to HK dollars at the Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport whilst

in transit. If you are in the city (Bangkok), the foreign exchange KIOK are plentiful.

If you read the OP properly, HE is routing through Bangkok whilst his daughter is routing through Hong Kong.So him changing money in BKK is not going to help his daughter in HK

  9. I have recently received a 3 month single entry Non Imm B visa from Kunming, however since applying for this Visa and its issue my cirumstances have changed. I will be entering Thailand this coming Friday and being a Brit passport holder I can get a 30 day visa on arrival.

My question is, when does the newly issued Non Imm B visa kick in, would it be when the immigration swipe my passport at Swampy or would it not kick in if I went the visa on arrival route. ?

The reasons for my question are pretty deep but basically I dont want to use the Non Imm B visa at this moment
