  1. So you are paying someone to install a pirated/hacked system, what do you think he is doing when he is programming your reciever ? whats your point here ? Do you really think a company can legally get all those channels for those prices ???

Pirated / hacked ?? sorry forgot to mention that they told me they do pay Royalties.

    What is my point ?

1). If this is really legal then True are ripping off the Thai public - a result of having a monopoly.

    2) If this is illegal its very cleverly done and after spending nearly 300,000 Baht on UBC/True over the years and being buggered about by them I feel vindicated.

    3) I am also trying to point out there are other alternatives.

    Back to the Cricket now

  2. After using UBC/True Visions Platinum package for over 7 years, I relocated from BKK to Kunming in China. I originally signed up with a Shanghai company who were the agents in China for Dream, buit after 3 weeks, Dream dropped a lot of their channels, so I binned them. I then found a local company, who say they are the agents for a major Thai provider ( read between the lines here). I contacted them and they fitted in the smallish dish, and the required box, for this system you need broadband. they hooked everything up and as this system does not need a "sim" type card, they, using a computer programmed the system and within 30 minutes I was watching all of the channels that I was used to in Bangkok (again read between the lines).

However last week, I had to move apartments due to structural damage, I contacted the local company giving them my new address, within hours they had taken down the original dish at my old apartment and were re-installing it at my new one. They then said, that as my apartment faced South West and had a nice but small garden, they could install a bigger dish which would enable me to have additional channels over what I had already, so I have now got as previously mentioned, plus all the Super Sports from SA as well as BBC Entertainment and literally many many channels. In fact so many, I am having difficulty is ploughing through them all !

The cost for alll this including setting up, removing and setting up again, plus the bigger dish was 3,000 RMB (15k Baht) BUT the ANNUAL payment is only 400 RMB (2k Baht) there are no rental fees, as once paid, the dish and decoder is mine for life.

After finishing the re-set up I talked to the technician telling him the very high costs demanded by True and he was amazed and told me that the very same system as I have now could be used also in Thailand and for the sake of a plane ticket he could go to Bangkok and train a local how to fit and set up this system.

Seriously considering this offer as the end result would make a lot of viewers very happy in Thailand.

Have to leave now as the Cricket Test between England and South Africa is just about to start !!!!!!

  3. It is a complete waste of money. Cancelled it years ago in favour of WeTV, which has the Olympics, F1, cricket, plus movies that aren't censored to nothing... all of which UBC never did at the time. The saving is 1300 baht a month and still get BBC, CNN, English movie channels, cartoon channels for the nipper, etc.

    We TV ?????

  4. As a non Christian coluntry, I fail to see how you can complain about lack of Christmas programmes. And before you respond, may I suggest the christians in Thailand make up a very very low percentage anmd not worthy of special programming

  5. A wonderful story of family love and comittment, you have obvuiously sat and thought this through very diligently, however i feel there could be a weak link in your armour, that is the 100% acceptance of this move by your dear old Mum. I have been through this with my 84 year old mum who is widowed, she also suffers from this nasty affliction and she point blank turned the offer down refusing to fly. no amount of effort on my part to convince her worked. So please ensure your mum is up for this

  6. Thanks for the tip, David, BUT

I could not find Grand Sanyod Cantonese Restaurant

    in the link you provided.

Also, does anyone know a good authentic Cantonese

or Mandarin restaurant in the Pattaya area?

Dont wish to be pedantic but there is no such thing as a mandarin restaurant. China has different foods according to provinces, The further north you go you will find that rice is less a staple diet and is replaced by breads etc. cantonese food is from guangdong province.

  7. In nthe past its been almost impossible to get dedicated Xmas cards, but over the last 2 years I have noticed more and more Xmas cards available, apart from outlets already mentioned, I found Hallmark cards in Macro this year

  8. It is about time that Beer Chang and mister Charoen are subjected to normal business rules. Beer Chang became this big on the expense of Singha Beer because they had an defacto Whickey monopoly and therefore any shop who needed Thai Whiskey was forced to buy Chang beer. But I suppose that is all fine when you belong to the Happy few in Thailand. I wonder if Carlsberg will make a re entry another company that got screwed by Charoen.

If my memory serves me correctly, Carlsberg is brewed in the Philippines by the guy who owns PAL, its also brewed in HK and China, not that the last two help

  9. If my Non imm B visa expires 24th November then legally I have to leave on the 23rd, no problem with that. But can I come back in on the 24th using the 30 day visa exempt available on my UK passport, or would the timings be too obvious and would this be considered back to back? would the 25th be better. Annoying thing is that I have two meetings scheduled on the 26th and 30th and will then return to China
