I dont see any rip off here at all. The law states what you must carry. Seems to me too many people like the OP get used to the laid back attitude here and bitch when the laws are enforced. If I had my way I wouldnt allow tourists to drive motor cycles here, licence or no licence !

Travel Insurance is entirely up to you, And I would suggest China visas for Thai Nationals are not a problem, I travel between Kunming and BKK regularly and the flights are full of Thai tourists.
I would however warn you of your proposed date of travel. From the 1st - 8th October, China closes down for their National Day celebrations.

good bye overcrowded Nightmare City, welcome Chaeng Wattana, The building is very impressive, its located in an open area not like road congested Nightmare City. I really do not understand what all the petty bitching is about unless its from those who step out of their comfort zone 5 minutes away from their residences.
we had the same type of misinformed bitching when they announced they were going to build the new airport. I live close to Don Muang, but it is much easier to get to swampy, its called progress so accept it.

Not EVA related. But Qatar - a very decent airline, are offering return economy fares to LHR for 25,000 Baht fully inclusive. But not direct, via Dohar

Probably a dirty engine with a build up of grease and oil on it, any short circuit would cause it to catch fire.
Almost impossible, try lighting grease/oil with a lighter - very difficult. Electrical wiring shorts or fuel leaks are the most probable, not forgetting dropped cigarettes etc etc

As a Brit i found your solution to be nothing short of brilliant. Being a subject of Lizzie I think she should give you a knighthood

I know of a Chinese male, working in Thailand legally for 7 years, speaks great Thai and English, went to France for a short vacation (about 4 months ago) went to the Thai embassy in Paris, submitted his docs for a new Non B Visa and was immediately issued with a 12 months multi entry. Its so difficult to second guess the Embassies when they dont sing from the same song sheet !

Slightly off topic, but I came through Swampy yesterday afternoon, was pleasantly suirprised to see after clearing Customs that the area is much less congested and quieter, no touts to be seen. A definate improvement, long may it last

Interesting how Cornish Pasties are the subject of discussion. This was in the Plymouth Herald newspaper

Try a bottle of PETER VELLA, which until very recently I could only find in Makro but now on sale in most outlets. Its a bit strange as it said to be Californian but blended and bottled in Thailand. At 299 Baht I find its good value with a very fruity taste.

Port Stanley is in the Falklands and shopping there is not up to much i assure you
-
Sorry I disagree, As a past resident in HK for 20 years, I think that the shopping is split into two sectors, the upmarket Malls and shops such as brand names and the second is the rest. Of course bargains can be had, but HK is NOT AS CHEAP as people believe and scams are very common. Majority of Electrical outlets dont show prices, its up to you to haggle for the prices you believe are right, but beware the bait and switch scam which is very prevelant. It is always said to buy only from outlets that show the HKTA logo, after which, if you feel you have been cheated you can take your complaint to the Tourist Association. Bkkmei mentions "Broadway" which I always thought was not up to much but other chains such "Fortress" can be trusted.
If you have the time and dont mind getting a China Visa then take the KCR to Lo Wu and cross into SHenzhen where there is a shopping mall right outside the station. but again remember the "Buyer beware " slogan

SB suggests that KP are selling dodgy fake watches which could be considered libelous so I suggest that post is deleted. as for Kradangs comments, I believe my father even at his age would recognise a Omega with a smooth second hand movement as opposed to one with a movement imitating a chicken scratching for worms. As this is a special present to him I will pass on that Poipet suggestion

If Man U were the targets of a suicide bomber then either the terror Cell were not too switched on with the travel schedules of the team or they used a very dodgy detonation timer/whatever.
Man U were still in Singapore when the bomb was detonated.

I have my eye on a Omega Chronometer with 18 carat gold bezel and strap. I have looked closely at DF prices in Singapore Airport, Hong Kong airport and Bangkok, The prices in SQ and HK are almost identical but here in King Power they are about 35,000 Baht cheaper.
How can this be ? or is this another possible scam, which I highly doubt due to KP's high profile, but i cannot get my mind around such a price variation.
Can anyone give any other examples of such price differences

surely logistics such as hospitalisation is the job of Bangkok Airways !!

The comment about HK Airport closing on the number 8 signal is not correct, I lived in HK 20 years and did more than a few flights with typhoon signals raised. In my previous post I should have pointed out that I was booked on CI, who have lost two aircraft at HK due to bad weather, one a 747 at Kai Tak and the second a MD11 at the new airport. And yes SQ did lose an aircraft in Taipei during bad weather
-
Yes I did just that 2 weeks ago when I learnt that the number 8 typhoon signal had been raised in HK. If birds dont fly in such weather i am danm sure I wont neither. Before checking in turned around and went back home

For the record, the first shipment of vehicles, about 70 I believe were imported and stored in Bang bua Thong, where they are still sitting, some under cover. but the big units fully open to the elements, they will need a very expensive inspection and repair programme to become operational. The second shipment plus a number of containers are still in the docks at Laem Cha Bang.
The statement made that the pick up chassis were made in Thailand is true, but to a much higher spec than the locally sold models. these were actually purchased from Mitsubishi UK then shipped to a fire truck outfitter in Belgium ( Somati) who produced the final fire unit. All Mitsubishi pick ups purchased in Europe originate in Thailand, but as I have said to a much higher spec.
Over the years there have been a number of "red herrings" bandies about. even the original Press Conference when the order was finalised AUSTRALIA was substituted for AUSTRIA.
OK there are disputes etc etc but I would have thought that with the monies paid to date, Fire trucks of that value should now be out on the roads operational saving lives not sitting rotting.

Thats the BMA probably blacklisted by all potential future suppliers then

Went to my parents hous in Stamford, had a knock on the door at 4am the next morning to find my case being unloaded from a refrigerated truck . Thats what i call service !

If you and your "meeter" know each other, I have always arranged to meet them on the departure level at gate 10. Its quiet there and no hassles. I also SMS my contact before i depart saying flight on time, arriving BKK at **** Hrs and then add 40 minutes on top for meeting time. Hasnt failed me yet
