  1. I built a house in MNL and took the advice of an expert (????) and used metal piping, sad to say it lasted only 3-4 years before complete failure through corrossion. Had to replace the whole lot at great expense with the above mentioned blue plastic piping. Solved the problem and if i remember right my pump was set to 30 psi.

  2. Some of these comments on the philippines tickle me they really do ! sometimes I think that the nearest a lot of people have been to the Philippines is when a PAL aircraft flies over them. Sure, like most places in the world, there are great areas, good areas and the not so good areas. It all depends what you want. And you act / behave accordingly. No way would you wear heavy gold chains or genuine named watches etc, but saying that Pattaya seems to be going the same way.

Someone has stated that its dirty, yup, could be, but so is Mumbai, Kathmandu, and Pattaya, someone said its dangerous, yup so is Sao Paolo, Mexico City and at times Pattaya, so Manila certainly does not hold a monopoly.

In my humble opinion, which has been stated in another forum, the problem with the Philippines is that it is very densely populated and a lot of poverty. However saying that, I have met and enjoyed the company of many many Filipinos. They were well educated, spoke very good English and very laid back and enjoy life.

If you want the nightlife then Ermita is the place to be, although Maypor lim has cleaned it up considerably during his term of office. If you want a shopping area with huge Mega Malls then Ortigas is the place to be. Its all horses for courses.

I will howver agree with the poster who stated that taking USD is the way to go, BUT do not change at the Airport in MNL, outside in town there are many money changers with much better rates. However a word of warning DO NOT take a wallet out with you, Take USD in small denominations and change as you need to, it would not be sensible to walk around with a huge wad of USD in your pocket..

The last two times I was there I have never been able to get an exchange rate for Baht to Pesos of 1-1, meaning you lose a lot more than the 30% mentioned earlier

Angeles I cannot comment on as I am not a mongererer.

So go there with a positive attitude and just be sensible and dont get into confrontations, oh and one more thing, its my experience that Filipino guys are not particular;y good drinkers so steer clear of the likes in bars etc

  3. Over the years now, the Filipino population have blamed everything from Natural Disasters to lack of work and income on the president of the day.

I have spent years in the Philippines and actually own property there and I have tried time and time again to argue the case that majority of the problems in the country are caused by the peoples ability to listen to the church and not common sense and multiply like rabbits.

It cannot be Arroyo's fault that world oil prices are high, nor that the price of staple foods has risen dramatically (as it has all over the world). I cannot see how a young married couple in their mid twenties can have 3-4 children and expect a comfortable life.

It is about time that a Government issued a challenge to the Church to preach a much more sensible approach to life in these troubled times.

  4. Blattermouth is a real disgrace, he should keep his arrogant nose out of club affairs and if he needed to get himself involved then he should look very closely at his highly suspect corrupt VP who is based in Jamaica or the likes

  5. Need to work in Laem Cha Bang next week and have to stay in the area. I am not a lover of Pattaya but have heard good reviews about the Baboona Hotel in North Pattaya.

Can anyone give any feed back on the Baboona and are their any friendly Western bars/ restaurants in the immediate vicinity ??

  6. As an ex Motor Vehicle Examiner with the Hong Kong Government, 99.999% of traffic accidents were blamed by the drivers as a mechanical failure. In 95% of the cases I proved them wrong in the HK Law Courts. So reading of a Braking malfunction in this case does not surprise me. Its a drivers typical first line of defence.

Even had one case where a TRAM driver stated that the accident was not his fault, he had swerved to avoid the accident with a cement truck but swerved too late. Go figure that one out !

  7. Bluelotus may I suggest you hold back on your comments and consider how you would feel if a 15 year old illegal driver hits you putting you in hospital at great expense that you would never recoup.

This type of driver is a menace to society and in his case Karma has prevailed. Giving excuses due to his age is, in my opinion not logical. Remember the saying, its not the gun that kills, it the one pulling the trigger. Try to think about a Motorcycle as a gun

He killed only himself , uncanny this group on here your guys really turn my stomach ,

    Spare me the hypothetical events.

Quite right Sir/Madam, he killed only himself. there for the Grace of god go you and I. If respect for the law, driving regulations, safety of other roadusers and the driving with required insurance makes me an old fart - then so be it !

  9. minburi is coreect, these kids need as much help as they can get HOWEVER, the address given by Minburi is not correct, the unit is located on Tiwanon Rd not Chaeng Wattana

From viphavadi rangsit enter into Chaeng wattana Road, continue ove the two new fly overs until you see carrefoure on your left. As you pass Carrefoure come into the left lane and at the traffic lights turn left. This is Tiwanon, the orphanage is on the left hand side

  10. Thats a hel_l of a lot of damage for a "Mooban" collision indicating a fair amount of speed was involved. Would be interesting to hear what the damage was on her car !

You state you kept her driving licence, does that mean she was able to drive her car away from the scene ?
