  1. You could always do what we did with our male - a vasectomy.

Before we did that, he would drive us totally insane with his cries and high pitch incessant barking. Now they are able to hump all they like with worrying about an unwanted pregnancy :o

sorry to come back again but does a vasectomy overcome his desires or are you talking a castration

Very interesting comment, can you remember how long the proceedure lasted. If bina is right and she seems to know her stuff, maybe its not too late to get this done

  3. If my memory serves me right (not a guaranteed thing) I believe that only the female cockroach is able to fly. I also in the deep and darkest past seem to remember something about the females fly to find "nesting" areas, not much you can do apart from fumigate and keep doors and windows closed. One thing however, if this is only a night time thing, try getting a drum and keep an open fire going. This might distract them from your house lights

  4. if she's bleeding, they havent mated yet, but he will.... and he is protecting his interests by letting her eat first, and sticking to her like glue... wait til other males start hanging around... u will have fights on your hands...

when the bleeding starts to lessen she will breed with him... (the 9th to 12th day of the in heat cycle)... and he will continue to hang around her but that will lessen with time...

its all hormones and scent, not 'closeness and love'... although bitches will be choosy sometimes and prefer one male over an other; and dogs do have social 'friendships' and attatchments among themselves... they are a pack animal of course.

my own bitch preferred some ugly mixed mutt male from the 'crowd' outside rather then her chosen (by us) beautiful gentlemen boxer that i had bought especially for this purpose.... she loved him and slept with him and played with him but refused to breed with him. maybe he lacked the right amount of testosterone (he had small balls which in the animal world does make a difference)

u dont need 'ideas'; just look up breeding dogs, enough info there..... its 63 days from time of breeding to whelping; u will probably see the breeding (he mounts, then eventually will turn around so they are tail end to tail end, they will stay stuck until THEY unstick (very rare that males cant disengage after and hour or so), mark it in your calendar, the first month she will probably be the same, second month u will notice enlarged teats, usually, larger belly, nesting actions (gathering socks and stuff), towards whelping time, post again, or google for whelping dogs....

decide what u will do with 7 pups (these breed types usually but not always have large litters of between 6 to 9 pups)...

Thanks bina very enlightening, now we all know what you do in Israel !!!!! As for invading males, wont happen as the dogs are in a very secure environment, I think its time somehow to seperate these two as I certainly dont have the time to allow 6-9 canine ankle biters into my life .

  5. Have a possible problem. I have a male Lab /GR Cross and a female GR. Noticed last week that the female was bleeding, and for the last week the male has been very protective towards her. For example he stands "guard" next to her whilst she is eating before eating his own food, he is lilke a shadow to her, where she moves he moves and acts like a body guard, this for 24 hours a day.

i have a funny feeling they have mated and that he is acting like the big boss !!! However, how long will this attitude last ? and is this normal for a male dog ?

If they have mated and she is pregnant, are there any signs I should look out for to confirm her pregnancy apart from enlarged belly area etc.

    Any ideas on this ?

  6. My apologies if this is not Thailand related, but I do live here and its my money I am talking about so maybe the Mods could give me some leeway.

I have a sum of UK pounds that I want to hold in a foreign exchage bank in sterling. As Singapore has no restrictions on foreign currency, I feel that this would be workable.

The question is, does anyone have experience with such a bank in Singapore ? All I need is an account and an international ATM card.

I would appreciate any feed back but please dont expand the region to the Isle of Man for example as I will have to go to the selected bank to open the account

  7. Lourens, glad to hear that this episode at least is closed. However, all parties should realise that these painful times could have been avoided if the Son had opened up to his parents from day 1. I realise this is hard for a kid to do ,but it would haved lessened the pain and hurt he was going through much quicker.

    Anyhow good luck to him

  8. Cannot remember as its been over 5 years since I visited a bar. I have more important things to do and remember. However I am also of the belief that its cheaper and more comfortable having a drink at home and not go through the hassle of being pestered by the bar staff and witness the antics of the visiting morons

As a moron I'll say that I go to bars to meet people. The purpose of the alcohol is to act as a social lubricant.

I never drink at home as the effect of alcohol in that setting I find unpleasant. I've also always thought it was probably quite a risk factor for alcoholism drinking at home.

The antics of visiting morons is at least as entertaining as what ever is usually on the TV and the pestering bar staff are easily dealt with if you simply communicate with them.

Sitting at home drinking while looking down on those who are out socialising is a funny definition of "more important things to do"

You misunderstand, I never suggested I look down on the bar hoppers. I am quite satisfied with my own company and have no need to imbibe to socialise. After living in this part of the world for over 30 years, I have witnessed many colleagues and friends end up as alcoholics, and guess what without exception, these were social drinkers who preferred the bright lights rather than their own homes. i guess its horses for courses, and my horse prefers a healthy bank balance of his own rather than the bank accounts of the bar owners or the hasslers. But I can honestly say I cannot remember the last hang over I suffered.

  10. Anyone tell me how long it takes to clear a government cheque from UK in a local bank here in Thailand.

Reason I ask is because my military pension is paid by cheque monthly, but into my account in Manila and the bank there says between 45 -60 days to clear. Surely in this electronic age this is ridiculous and I get the feeling they are sitting on the money earning themselves interest

  11. Recently returned from UK witjh quite a number of quick soak mushy pea packets. seems as if I picked a bad batch as all the Soda tablets usually found in the packets are mysteriously missing, so need to try and find locally.

Any ideas anyone where I can buy here in BKK. I have kept my eyes open in supermarkets but have not seen any unless they are in packaging with Thai language

  12. It may be the weather, but my UBC has been playing up this last week. Even without heavy rain my unit seems to switch itself off then restart itself. OK thats annoying but what is really frustrating me is a code BLEFJOKSTU that keeps popping up on the screen with regular monotony !! Any ideas of what this code means ?

  13. Thanks astral. You are right, however I was led to believe that the Condo's and the likes are highly priced thanks to our friends from the land of the rising sun, I failed to indicate that it would appear a house would be a cheaper option as for some reason the Japanese do not seem to be interested.

so a house with asmall garden and three bedrooms if possible but certainly two, which one of would be used as an office also.
