  1. I am trying to understand how an older person would put themself in a situation where they would not have/want medical insurance. I can understand it’s an unwelcome cost. Can also understand that some may not be able to qualify due to age and/or prior illness. However, having no medical insurance coverage seems somewhat high risk. I am sure I am missing something so seeking to understand the situation
  2. I feel trapped in Thailand because of my wife. She won’t live anywhere else. Insurance not a problem.
  3. The COE was reviewed and processed by the local embassy/consulate. Issues, delays, questions could be discussed and resolved with the “local” Thai staff. In the case of the consulate I have been dealing with they have been amazingly helpful. The Thailand pass is all online and is handled in Thailand … if there is a problem or question it’s not going to be quick or easy to sort out. I’m going to miss the COE!
  4. Maybe a blessing in disguise. The Scandinavians are not red hot on this vaccine and Japan has a load of it that bound for the trash as it turned out to be contaminated.
  5. As long as you arrive on or after Nov 1 you can ignore the 7 day requirement (provided you are from the list of low risk countries). You only need one night booking in a quarantine hotel. I also arrive on Nov 5 and checked all this with the embassy in my country.
  6. I think you have been quite lucky then. It does not always go that way … especially when they hit early teens and want to spend all their time in the bedroom.
  7. That is correct … a Will only. You can set up a “Controller of the property”, I am just in the process of doing this myself. It really is nothing like a Trust. It’s not terribly complicated. I am setting this up as a means for me to control our Thai assets in the event of my wife’s death …. I don’t want those assets going directly to our children until I pass. This is really the only way I can manage this situation, my not being a Thai citizen.
  8. At preset, a Trust is not an option … in Thailand. Always an option to move the assets off shore (Singapore for example) and set up a trust there.
  9. Well that is interesting. I contacted the Thai Embassy in Canada today. What they told me is that if I plan to arrive in Thailand before Nov 7 (which I do) I should use the COE application process. They did say that they will not accept new applications using COE process from Nov 1 onward. However they will allow the COE approved to enter after Nov 1 under the new rules (so can use the COE process for the next 5 days). I asked if I would need to stay in a quarantine hotel for 7 days if I use the COE process to enter Thailand after Nov 1 …: answer was a definite “no” (just a 1 day quarantine hotel stay per the new rules). They were very sincere about wanting to be flexible during the transition. Is it worth your while to give the UK embassy staff a call?
  10. Maybe I am stating the obvious but medical doctors don’t invent medicines. They would not have a clue how to go about it as it’s not what they are trained to do. The PhD’s who invent medicines … well they are working under the whip of the big and small Pharma companies. I suspect they are very busy right now.
  11. Time to let mother nature do what she is best at so the other 99% of us can get on with life. You know she will not be denied, right?
  12. Appears to me that the aviation sector is in fact very certain people will not be traveling.
  13. And here was me thinking those GI’s came to Thailand for the sex culture. Leaves one wondering why it has persisted so long after the GI’s left Thailand.
  14. I wonder why a hotel booking is necessary if you are not in quarantine? In my case I would be staying at my house if not under quarantine.
  15. No, it does not work like that. There certainly was a data leak somewhere.
  16. It’s very unlikely that you will need to prove anything. I have had my Thai cc scammed overseas in the past and they just “accepted” the challenged charges. It’s just a poorly written article.
  17. Not so much, as it has become clear to me that there are many things worse in life than dying. In fact, in certain circumstances, dying might actually be the happy choice.
  18. Well, there is nothing wrong with the goal. The real problem is that they intend to do nothing different than they have been to attract said tourists (other than build a few soulless walking streets) but expect that a new kind of tourist is going to show up … by decree I guess.
  19. Hold on. I can tell you the Swiss gentleman would be up on charges in many countries (regardless of what I might see as a resealable self defense response). That does not mean he would end up in jail but the onus would be on him/his lawyer to demonstrate that it was not murder/man slaughter. When another life is ended there needs to be due diligence to assure it was necessary self defense. This is not up to the police, it’s up to the courts.
  20. Nothing has been announced but I would guess that the unvaccinated will not be eligible for a tourist visa. Regardless, whatever the opening plan is, be it October or later, it’s likely going to suck … these people want your money in their terms. Expect bans on this and that. Honestly, unless you are trying to get back to Thailand to reunite with family, just drop the idea. Maybe the end of 2022 would be a reasonable time to holiday here.
  21. I do wonder why the leaders of this government have such a hate in for alcohol/drinking? Even before Covid they jumped at every excuse to make it less accessible. I can appreciate they may not be big drinkers themselves but what is the bother if others do. It’s odd that they would allow their personal proclivities interfere with the soft reopening they are planning.
  22. They really need to open a thesaurus and find a different word than “lure” it’s just too loaded with unintended meanings … even if lure is what they intend to do.
