The 180 day limit is the rule they decided on when creating the visa. I have friends on DTV,  they have just done a border bounce and reentered the same day. Many have done this however none have reached the end of their 2nd 180 days yet,  There isnt any rule on how long you spent out if the country, just that you have enough money to support your stay.
