  2. http://rt.com/usa/241517-white-house-administration-foia/

White House exempts itself from FOIA requests

Notwithstanding claims of being the most transparent administration ever, the White House now says that an executive branch office is exempt from United States Freedom of Information Act requests effective immediately.

As of Tuesday, the Office of Administration will no longer have to heed FOIA requests — the likes of which had for decades helped explain the inner workings of White House functions — according to a notice published in the Federal Register this week.

Although the White House is largely exempt from having to answer FOIA requests, the Office of Administration has until now been among the few exceptions concerning the commander-in-chief. In the final rule published on Tuesday morning, however, the deputy assistant to President Barack Obama writes that the office’s parent agency, the Executive Office of the President, “is removing regulations from the Code of Federal Regulations related to the status of records created and maintained by the Executive Office.”

  3. Has a formal complaint been lodged with the Police about this alleged KIDNAPPING, ASSAULT & ROBBERY ?

What help are you expecting to receive from a forum?

Koh Chang is small island. I can`t report ot too the police.....they were part of the gang that kidnapped us!

There`s no "alleged" about it. It happened, it was terrifyingly real. I have proof and witnesses.

I have reached out in desperation to lots of people. I have never been in this situation. I have no idea what to do. The Army seem powerless. The British Embassy can do nothing. I reached out to this forum to see if any members had any advise on what the hell I should do. I am scared for my family.

What`s your advice for me and my family?

Err, get off the island, move, vamos, get the hell out of Dodge...

Besides that, I'm not sure what you think anyone on TVF can do for you...

  4. Name and shame? Post their picture on their local newspaper back home? In USA, fine about $10,000 USD....I will email Thai official now and let them know. Good luck getting mad for getting caught drinking and driving. Nobody will feel bad for you, unless you really do need help. Speaking of which, if you were in Spicy earlier, I think the fine should be doubled and pictures sent to facebook immediately!!!! lol.

I simply flash them my elite card, speak my fluent thai, show them my thai gf who loves me very much, and then i am escorted to the moo baan!!!!

Are you serious or simply demented? Serious question...

  5. Yeah, that's the reason. I'm here on a tourist visa.

I would transfer it into my name next time I get a non-immigrant visa and obtaining a residency certificate is a little easier.

Would the insurance being in my girlfriends name not cover damages resulting from an accident while I was driving?

You can buy a car or motorcycle on a tourist visa, in your name... All you need is a residency certificate...

I was reading on here and apparently Bangkok immigration doesn't issue residency certificates to those on tourist visas?

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/706644-bangkok-problem-with-certificate-of-residence/

Were you able to get a residency certificate while on a tourist visa?

    Yes, in Chiang Mai...

  6. This is bound to ratchet up the rhetoric... The US will not stop until they have provoked Russia into an armed conflict... It's what they want...

Here is the west's latest tactic, which Putin has denounced as genocide...

Putin: Ukraine Gas Cut-Off 'Smacks Of Genocide'

A dispute continues over gas supplies in eastern Ukraine, with Russia's Vladimir Putin accusing Kiev of "genocide"

  7. Money in.

    Ticket out.

    Bring nothing else.

I travel with one carryon, and it is not one of those big backpacks that look suitable for a Mount Everest summit. It is one that the Travel Guy Rick Steves markets. I got to tell you, that thing has held up well and I have had it 12 years now. It is all you need. Undies, T-shirts and a few polo type shirts with collars. Bathing suit. Pack two pairs of shorts. Sun Hat. Small toilet kit.. Don't bring any socks. Don't wear them over there. The one pair on my feet for the plane ride is more than enough. I wear my walking shoes, TEVA things so no need to pack those. I wear a very lightweight wind breaker on the plane ride. That does come in handy when going to the ice box Thai movies. I travel with pants for the long plane flight and one pair is all I have needed once I got to Thailand and even that was rare when long pants were needed.

One year I brought my fold up collapsible travel umbrella and that is 50/50 depending on the season I travel. The bag fits in the overhead. One year when I flew back to the USA connecting through Dallas. I got pulled aside for a bag search. Fine. They were quite upset that I only had one bag for what was a 45 day trip. I said they do have laundries over there and the ladies do a fine job for a couple of dollars. I don't need to bring 30 shirts for 30 days!

We are of the same ilk... Being a charter member of the IBRT (International Brotherhood of Road Trash) and at times traveling 280 days a year, I got it down to a science... I could stay away from home indefinitely with only packing a standard-size backpack and one roller bag that fits in an overhead... The backpack was mostly for electronics, one change of clothes and my shaving kit, while everything else went in the roller bag... Check NO baggage...

As far as what is needed to pack for a holiday in Thailand, I go with money, passport and ticket out... Everything else can be replaced cheaply...

  8. The penalty is you might kill someone.

How about you just don't drink and drive, regardless of whether you think you'll get caught or not?

As they say they were pretty much testing everyone and they ask what the penalties were, I'm assuming they were lucky enough not to get stopped or were not over the limit.

Op, in reply to your question, I've heard it's off to the slammer and then a 20k fine at the court the next working day. I believe you cannot pay upfront and expect to walk away from it, but if you can consider yourself lucky.

An acquaintance ran into a similar situation a while back and was able to post 20,000 baht bond at the police station when caught on a Friday night to avoid spending the weekend in the gulag... He showed up for court and they applied it toward his fine...

  9. I would be interested to hear if *anyone* *ever* asked for, and received, a receipt for paying the Bt 500.

    - Since the service is supposed to be "free", is the request for payment of the Bt 500 just a straight-forward rip-off (ie corruption) ?

The best part is that they ask 500 baht per-copy of the Residency Certificate... I needed 3 copies when I went there recently... No joy and no receipt, but I did get them the next day...

  10. I cannot believe some of the comments, assumptions, and accusations here. I know these people, and some of the morons commenting on this site have little better to do than comment on things and people they know nothing about....Alan Aunuum, Neeranum and so many others making comments, without knowing the background and current situation of people involved. You are incorrect on so many points and prove yourselves to be idiots with very boring lives

If you have the details on this story, then share them and stop whinging about the nature of the TVF beast... Like most, I have a hard time believing that this guy would kill himself over his GF threatening to leave... Either you have more details or you don't, so over to you for a run-down...
