  1. So they have the money to boost security of the tunnel.

Why not use this money to round up those poor unfortunate immigrants and ship them back?

According to OP they are not in hiding but camping outside Caleis.

Arrested 200 out of 2,100? More troubles to come.

Because according to the UN that would be inhumane... coffee1.gif

Ain't it grand that unelected bureaucrats can dictate immigration policies...

  2. If it is so ridiculous and sad, then he should release the terms of the secret side-deals associated with the Iran treaty... You know, just like the top-secret TPP legislation that just got rammed through Congress without disclosure of the details to the general public...

Not sure what pisses me off more, the secret, back room deals or the fact that the US will be giving Iran more $$$ as a result of this deal as the US has given Israel since 1948, which pisses me off too...

  3. I too feel fortunate to be living in Thailand and yes, luck does have something to do with it... Yes, I have worked hard my entire life, been smart enough to avoid manual labor and wise enough to have the funds so I can enjoy retirement here... The luck comes into play in that I was born into a good family in a 1st world nation, providing opportunities not available to most Thais... As the saying goes, there by the grace of God go I...

yes we dont chose where we are born or who we are born to.poverty can come down to laziness, poor education and also poor parenting,in the west all these things can be overcome through government education programs that are usually free if you are unemployed, but in thailand there is little encouragement from the thai establishment.Quite simply they are happy to keep the poor poor, that is why there is little effort to raise the educational standards here.

I was having this convo with my GF recently... Today, she is uni educated and has a good position with the Thai government, but she was born into a poor farming family near CM... As a kid she had to work in the rice paddies and told me that at times her hands and legs would hurt so bad that she would cry herself to sleep, knowing that she would have to go back into the fields the next day... Her father and mother did not want this life for her, so they sacrificed to put her through university... She focused on getting through school, then to find a good job so she could take care of her family... I respect her for her tenacity and devotion to her family... Integrity is a character traits that cannot be faked...

  5. I used to do Archery as a hobby back in the states until the arthritis in my neck got too bad. it was a lot of fun.

I believe that there is an archery range just off the SW part of the moat if I'm not mistaken.

There is an archery range on the same property as the Star Dome Golf course...

I've got more hobbies than I have time to enjoy them all... sad.png

    Cycling

    Motorcycles

    Golf

    Gym

    Swimming

    Cooking

    R/C airplanes

    Reading

    Travel / exploring new places

    Learning more Thai language
    Socializing (if that's a hobby)
  6. The Euro was never about money or the economies. It was always about control. There is no reason under the sun other than controlling people and countries to have a common currency.

    It will fail.

the US-Dollar did not fail when it was forced on the confederate states and the European Union did not (to the best of my knowledge) face a civil war since inception of the €UR.

    tongue.png

Funny you should use those examples, because it took a Civil War in the US to impose central control as the Confederate states were attempting to secede from the Northern union due to social and economic reasons... Same as is happening in the EU today...

  7. The EU was formed as a monetary and economic union, not a political union... What the EU has become is a union of countries that are being forced into political decisions mandated by the unelected economic bureaucrats in Brussels... The economies of each country in the EU is different, so you cannot simply lay a template over all countries and expect monetary flows to equate... Northern EU countries are far more productive economically than southern countries... As long as each country had the ability to print their own currency, they could inflate their way out of economic crisis... Not any more as all fall under IMF, ECB control... We now hear noise from leaders such as Hollande calling for a unified European government, which in my opinion was the goal all along... Slippery slope and it might have worked long term, but TPTB have screwed up any chance of success with further pressure placed on the EU nations by unbridled immigration of people from dissimilar cultures, placing further economic pressure on each country...

  8. Just be sure to wear a wife beater tee shirt and there shouldn't be a problem, you'll fit right in.

    why a wife beater shirt?

Good luck in becoming a Thai citizen... Let us know how that works out for you...

As far as your appearance, you will fit right in with the crowd on Khao San Road in Bangkok...

    thank you

i dunno Khao San Road have a lot of different people but worlds culture is similar in shoes and hair isnt it Loptr?, except in new zealand for shoes

Based on your description of your appearance, you will fit right in with the back-packer crowd that hangs out in hostels on Khao San Road and can be found in various tourist destinations in Thailand... Low-budget travelers trying to enjoy their travels on a limited budget, while their appearance is as bohemian as possible... Long hair, dreadlocks, piercings, barefoot, beggar pants and tie-died cloths are the standard attire... And no, you will not be accepted into general Thai society with that appearance... Don't let that deter you though as there are many folks here that really don't fit in anywhere else...

  9. ^

    "work at A Pharmacy"

uh nah its not that at all.

And like I mentioned I would definitely try to get hired from here b4 moving.

Anyway can we get back on topic...

The point is that many professions are protected in Thailand, meaning that non-Thais cannot work in those industries... Not saying that you cannot get a job in your given profession, but the odds are against you unless you have a highly specific skill set that is not available in the local populace... Even though you may be highly qualified, you may be in a profession that is barred from hiring foreigners...

As far as your assertion that it would be hard to stay out of bars and to not become an alcoholic in Thailand, the same mentality holds true here as anywhere else on the planet... If you don't have any self-control, then Thailand is not the place for you...

  10. I wonder how the TAT is going to spin this... Won't take long for word to get out that establishments offering alcohol are being closed down in tourist areas... I guess the junta doesn't care about that segment of the market any longer...

  11. This topic is interesting in that the heading simply asks an aesthetic opinon but then the OP goes on to insult and speculate on the perceived psycological defect of those that do not share his personal taste. Says more about the op than tats and body mods. I personally do not like most tats as the art selected is not to my liking. I once saw a lovely beer server lady with a delecate flowering vine on her back.... that was nice.

    Speculation? I think not...

  12. As the lady said to me about the prices she charges "better small money than no money".

Her bar is in a crap location and generally the customers of Rawai and Chalong are very price sensitive; most of them being retired.

From 5 in the evening to 7 she is packed. The cheap Charlies always pass by word of mouth where the cheap drinks are to be had.

She says she is making more money now than when the prices were "normal".

She is getting grief from other bars about her prices, but, she's told them that it is her business and she'll do as she pleases. Good on her, I say.

Finally, someone gets it... They cannot keep raising prices when business is bad to maintain their income... Hopefully others will learn how to adapt and survive, if not, som nam na...

  13. I too have been having problems with my live in helper. About a year ago some Thai friends in Bangkok asked if I could help their 19 year old daughter, see is studying law at CMU and wanted to save on accommodation fees. She has been with me a year now cleaning, cooking and generally looking after the house but the situation is getting silly and she has to go. She has long dark hair down to her waist and is incredibly beautiful, She cleans the house in micro skirts and 6 inch high heels

and thinks it funny to bend over in front of me to pick things up off the floor. Over the last 6 months or so she has taken to leaving the bathroom door unlocked and telling me not to worry if I walk in on her when she is in the shower, she has even taken to hanging her impossibly small underwear to dry over the bath. The last straw has been that she is experimenting with her sexuality and now has a girlfriend from the university who often stays over, several times I have walked in on them on the sofa in the sitting room but they carry on as if I am not there. Obviously she has to go but how can I do it without upsetting her parents?

She can stay at my place in CM, plenty of room for her and her girlfriend... whistling.gif

  14. I can't wait to read the comments of all the sexpats freaking out about this. I doubt this will end your world pervies !

They are not half as entertaining as the comments from those that think this ruling will make one iota of difference in the drinking habits of locals... Congrats for being the first on the scene with an asinine comment...

  15. It appears everyone in the established power-hierarchy in the US is doing everything in their power to discredit Trump... All they are doing is driving interest and support his way... I'm waiting for the dog catcher and his brother to come out against him at any moment... Even his mis-steps are being ignored by people that want change as his poll numbers keep going up even when he opens his mouth and sticks his foot in it, something that only the establishment has been allowed to do with the help of the MSM... Too hard to predict the race over the next 15 months, but one thing is certain, it is going to be entertaining... The Donald will likely let his over-inflated ego say something in public which cannot be dismissed and he will implode...

Here's a bonus, Trump telling Anderson Cooper to his face that the American people don't trust him... Now that's entertainment...
