Report Concerns over Tilted Canal Pathway in Nonthaburi Spark Urgent Action
newnative replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
If they were really 'proactive' repairs would be under way already, or at least beginning. Instead, their 'proactive' just involves--you guessed it--'talks'. Which haven't even started yet. Always, talk, talk, talk. Or, in this case, talk of future talks. -
Report Foreign Earnings Taxed Under New Thai Rules - But With Exceptions
newnative replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Sticking with my original plan to keep my head down and do nothing until I am clearly forced to do something, such as provide a tax return in order to do my annual renewal. -
Guess you missed the other news story of the Indian guy found with a plastic bag wrapped around his head on Koh Samet. The other day there was a story about a tourist running amok on Bangkok's MRT, guess you missed that one, too. Whether it's Pattaya, Phuket, Bangkok, Koh Samet, or any other tourist area, there will be tourist incidents. Par for the course.

Tourism Tourism Shock: Thailand's Visitor Numbers See Alarming Plunge
newnative replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
A 1% drop is not an 'alarming plunge'. -
That's not how it worked recently for a Lazada order we did. We ordered a tv and got, instead, a small package of cheap stickers. Obviously a scam--the sticker order # matched exactly the order # for the tv. We called Lazada and reported the scam. Lazada sent a delivery person to pick up the package of stickers. No 4 day waiting period, although I think Lazada holds payment to a seller for 4 days in case there is a problem--and a good thing they do. The tv seller wasn't involved at all and had no say as to whether the item could be sent back. Once the sticker package got back to Lazada, they could see it matched the tv order # and the charge was refunded to our credit card.

Crime Brutal Bloodshed in Pattaya: Briton Stabbed, Suspects Vanish

Some 18 international schools say otherwise--with another one, Highgate, scheduled to open next year. Regents celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. Mind you, none of the international schools are on Walking Street. Nor are the vast majority of the families, who are all over Greater Pattaya in hundreds of nice housing projects, with many more being built. -
Report Pattaya Cracks Down on Illegal Parking Space Hoarders
newnative replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
This week's 'look we're working' stunt. As others have said, won't last. There needs to be a core of traffic police handing out stiff fines on a daily basis, year-round. Spouse and I drove down that street behind Home Pro that leads to Big C Extra the other day. There's a wide blue line for wheelchair users--big fanfare when it was unveiled sometime ago. Anyway, the wheelchair lane was mostly blocked by parked cars. Typical. -
If only that were true. Free, my eye. A news report today says it will cost billions to modify the Qatar jet to be suitable to be Air Force One, and it wouldn't be ready before 2028. The Boeing jets are supposed to be ready in 2027. So, why should the American taxpayers pay billions to modify the Qatar jet when the Boeing planes will be ready a year earlier? Talk about wasteful government! It would just be duplicating work already in progress, and at a huge cost.
-
Makes no sense that this jet can, apparently, be ready for Trump to use fairly quickly while Boeing's jets, which they have been working on for years, are still not ready due to all the design changes Boeing has been forced to make and all the requirements demanded of them, such as to withstand a nuclear blast, etc. I'm curious what exactly will be done with the Qatar jet, other than a paint job. And, if it is ok for the Prez to fly on this jet, why are we spending billions of tax payer dollars on the very complex Boeing jets?

Kamala Harris Faces Uncertain Path to 2028 as Democrats Weigh Future
newnative replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I'm not a fan but I think she's welcome to run in 2028 and compete with other Dem candidates during the primary season. Let the voters decide if they want her to be the candidate again, once they get a second look. I hope by 2028 some better candidates will emerge. -
That's one of the reasons my spouse and I don't like to rent--the horrible furniture lots of rentals come with, not to mention a too small tv, small refrigerator, likely non-induction cooktop, uncomfortable mattress, bad art work, if there is any at all, etc. And, the worse part, having to tiptoe around all the lousy stuff hoping you don't, god forbid, break or damage something. Life is short and we much prefer creating our own spaces, with all our own stuff. But, we do realize that many prefer renting and it's whatever works best for them.
