Thai children losing out on height due to too little milk
DavisH replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
3-4 of my m3 students are close to 6 ft. Many are much shorter. Genetics will set the maximum height, but doet will dictate whether they can get to that max height. None of my students appear underfed or malnourished. How many drink milk, I don't know. My Thai son drinks loads of it, but his height, 179cm, was set by his mother, Im 189cm. -

Pictures of school lunches spark social media outrage

You don't know how many people ar involved but go on to say corruption is rampant? What is your association with Thai schools? No point in tarring all schools with the same brush. -

We get the same food as the students. And it much better than what is shown here. Nothing to write home about though. -
Car seat covers, best place to buy custom fit?
DavisH replied to vandeventer's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Try here... http://www.imukiauto.com/ Im sure they can make something. They will replace the fabric and use a pvc or a leather of various grades. I've never used them but have heard good things. Depends on what you want to spend. But a masic seat cover to slip on you can get in a market or shopping center. -
World History in Thailand - lack of or Arrogance?
DavisH replied to KhaoYai's topic in Primary & Secondary Education
We used to have a similar problem, mainly hungover farang teaches to turning up to work Monday morning. Interestingly, never had this problem with the non-native speakers. Our kids are almost always in class. -
These clubs often have shops to sell all sorts of bows arrows and other equipment. Try "archery Thai" in Bangkok. My son decided he wanted to try archery and ended up buying equipment from them. He also ordered older style bows from overseas. Not too expensive.

Car Reviews (personal 'Thai' experience)
DavisH replied to KhunLA's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Th swift we had also had a cvt. No problems but we sold the car at 115k kms. This was the cheapest to maintain car we have ever owned and used to average 18km/l. CVT's on this car can exceed 300K kms with proper maintenance (according to an independent suzuki garage I know of). Shocks and bushes fail well before the cvt will. -
These aren't the only diesels though are they? My crv diesel is quieter at 100km/h than the petrol equivalent. Then there is a range of other European diesels that are more refined than pickups also.

Bu your solar panels were not free right? After how long do they pay for themselves? If I owned an EV I'd probably get them, but out bill these days is just 4-5K a month, so not really worth it at this time.

DavisH replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Covid will drag on for years in Thailand....I'm still waiting to chat it and get some of that good ole natural immunity! Taking precautions like this is slowing the process of developing immunity. Sure, if you are in a high risk group ake precautions. But children and healthy adults will mostly survive infection, and will result in long term immunity. -

The nasal swab appears to work better than the saliva test, also. A couple of co-workers were infected last week - the saliva tests were showing negtive, but positive after a nasal swab a little while afterwards. One worker appeared to have developed symptoms only a few hours after suspected exposure to someone else who had tested positive. Incubation period seems very short and symptoms come on fast. They tested negtive 5-6 days later. Both had quite different symptoms though....just FYI. -
He should have walked, it would have been much faster. That's why he asked 300 baht.. A colleague of mine took 2 hours to drive less than a few hundred meters in that area during this event. Fortunaely I chose to leave that area in the opposite direction. The place was gridlocked and a result of poor traffic management coupled with way too many cars.

We keep talking about how bad education is here
DavisH replied to kingstonkid's topic in Teaching in Thailand Forum
In Thailand it depends on the school/institution. Many students drop out, or "reture" as they like to say, as they cannot cope. We have also sent out students from my school after m3, as they generally were failing all subjects up until that point (regardless of the fact they graduated with a 1.0 gpa, or 50%. Schools don't "need" to keep students after m3, as m3 is the end of compulsory education. -
Brit stabbed to death with sickle by Thai neighbour, inquest hears
DavisH replied to webfact's topic in Central Thailand News
Yes beause every Thai in Nakorn Nowhere has full sound insulation throughout their homes (which are mostly shacks). Welcome to the platform newbie. The unwritten rule is to turn it down after midnight. Pity the Brit didn't kno this, or was just being an a-hole. -

120km/h on my dial would be about 113-114km/h on a gps/police radar. cruising at 120 always keeps me well below the real speed.
