No one has to declare "overseas income" or pay tax on it. One has to declare assessable income that is remitted to Thailand if one is a tax resident of Thailand (in country more than 179 days per year.) The deadline for filing a tax return is 31 March 2025 for tax year 2024. The penalty is 1.5% surcharge per month on any taxes owed, on top of any fines that may (or may not) be levied.

Baht Poised for Dip to 35 per USD by Mid-2025, Experts Predict
TheAppletons replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The resident economics writer at the Bangkok Post, Chartchai Parasuk, is predicting a Thai financial system collapse in 2025. Thailand's Financial System on the Brink is the title of the essay. Dated 20 Feb 2025. If that were to happen, the Thai baht would likely be decimated. -
The Sad, Albeit Funny Reality of American Carnage 2.0

Quite entertaining. Oliver has some good writers and his delivery is also spot on. -
And John Oliver stole that concept from Spy magazine who first referred to Trump as a "short fingered vulgarian" back in the late 80's/early 90s. "Some of its features attempted to present the darker side of celebrities such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, John F. Kennedy Jr., Steven Seagal,[7] Martha Stewart, and especially the real-estate tycoon Donald Trump and his then-wife Ivana Trump.[8] Pejorative epithets of celebrities, such as "Abe 'I'm Writing As Bad As I Can' Rosenthal", "short-fingered vulgarian Donald Trump",[9]" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spy_(magazine)

Pai Locals Raise Concerns Over Chabad House Amid Security Warnings
TheAppletons replied to webfact's topic in Chiang Mai News
Good news for them then. If this was actually anti-semitism one would have expected legal violations galore. You know, just because. Sounds like the immigration authorities were doing exactly what they were told to do - increase surveillance of foreigners. If you want to play paranoid conspiracy theorist, go for it. -
Pai Locals Raise Concerns Over Chabad House Amid Security Warnings
TheAppletons replied to webfact's topic in Chiang Mai News
No, it's a classic signal of Thai overreaction. The Thais are punishing foreigners for the misbehavior of foreigners. The foreigners in Pai just happen to be Jewish in this instance. "....Police General Kitrat Panphet, has directed police forces across the nation to heighten surveillance of foreign nationals amid escalating concerns over public order and safety. This new measure, announced on 17 February, stems from reports of foreign visitors’ conduct that disrupts social harmony, violates public morals, and potentially damages Thailand's reputation. and "The move follows troubling incidents, notably in Pai, Mae Hong Son, where local businesses recently refused service to Israeli nationals. This decision arose after reports of inappropriate behaviour by some Israeli tourists, who allegedly verbally abused medical staff and threatened property damage at a local hospital. Adding to the concern, a Facebook video depicting intoxicated foreigners harassing female restaurant owners went viral, fanning online safety fears." -
Pai Locals Raise Concerns Over Chabad House Amid Security Warnings
TheAppletons replied to webfact's topic in Chiang Mai News
Not what the story said but you can make up whatever you want on the internet, apparently, so go right ahead. If you actually read the story, it states two basic concerns: a. Illegal work/overstays b. Concern for the safety of the facility as many Jewish facilities are targets for violence/terror activities. On a side note, if a select few of the Israeli tourists in Pai didn't act like complete jerks there probably would be no issues raised at all. I supposed that's anti-semitic too....?- 26 replies

Trump’s Bold Proposal to End Gaza’s Cycle of Suffering
TheAppletons replied to Social Media's topic in World News
As someone who stumbled onto this and doesn't really care either way, is it not conceivable that while this Pelzman guy was writing/researching his paper, he had discussed it with others? I doubt he was locked into a secure facility while working - quite possible others knew about it and talked about it, the Jared puppet included. So what? Mountain, molehill, etc. The things people argue about on the internet, lol. -

Why do The Cars sound like Boston? Anybody know?
TheAppletons replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
The Cars actually had two lead vocalists and it can be difficult to tell which is singing. Ric Ocasek is generally promoted as lead vocalist but a surprising number of their better known songs were sung by Benjamin Orr. (For example: I always thought Ocasek was vocalist on "It's All I Can Do".....nope.) -
Steve Martin while performing the Saturday Night LIve 50th anniversary show monologue: "I can't believe I even made it here in time. It was only a few days ago that Lorne told me I was doing the monologue, and I was actually vacationing on a friend's boat down in the Gulf of Steve Martin." Regardless of politics, that's a funny line. (Cue the "I stopped watching SNL..... comments.)

Foreigners Face New Hurdles in Opening Thai Bank Accounts
TheAppletons replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Oh sure, make jokes. But you know what they're going to do with that "certain" information? They're gonna do....do...something with that information. And that something could be the beginning of another thing. Are you saying that can't happen? -
Airport security is quite variable worldwide and that includes Thailand. You got lucky at CNX; a "normal" can of shaving cream exceeds the 100ml cream/liquid/gel maximum. It would be seized in most airports, IME. Conversely, whenever I fly through Bangkok, my cigar cutter is allowed in my carry-on. I had one seized at Chiang Mai, despite the fact that "technically" they are permitted. Apparently, I could have used it to cut off the pilot's ding dong when I was threatening the safety of the plane.

Thailand May Ease Overseas Income Tax Rules Amid Global Changes
TheAppletons replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Are you kidding? Without the tax threads - and the massive participation therein - this website would have gone out of business long ago. I mean, I guess we could come up with some other topic to frighten the Western geriatrics, like a massive tariff on adult diapers or a permanent ban on alcohol.- 245 replies
