  1. For many years, my mother (now 86yrs), in the UK, has asked insisted, that I procure - over the counter - antibiotics in Thailand for her. Usually I carry with me on visits, however, I have also mailed to her, succsessfully. This, as the NHS doctors in the UK, still refuse, or delay, prescribing what helps her with recurring, respiratory infections.
  2. Not sex related, but I used Amoxycillin, over the counter in Thailand, many times, to cure pain from an infected (cracked) tooth. In the end it was too late. An extraction and implant was the answer. High cost but all good now.
  3. Not Pattaya, or even Thailand, but we enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea at the Raffles Le Royal Hotel in Phnom Penh two years ago. No need to book and it was great value in a beautiful setting. The staff, and manager, were extremely welcoming. Loads of sandwiches, cakes and tea (or coffee) at a reasonable rate of of just US$15 (490 Thai Baht) per person. Highly recommended!

..."a formal complaint by a member of the public". Read Competitor or disgruntled Thai trader. Do Thai markets need to have FDA approval on the festering and fly ridden meat they sell with no refridgeration? Hope that normal trade at Siamsburis will resume ASAP.
  5. Renting vs Leasing? Aren't they the same thing? Are you talking about property, a vehicle or a woman? Please clarify for us as many may be curious as to your plan.
  6. Hey Helmut, welcome to the rainy season. Beware not to swim!
  7. Come to the UK and enjoy the "cultural enrichments" in many cities. Bring your wife and daughters too and let them walk home at night and enjoy it as well. If you're LGBTQ+ then see how it goes culturally in many areas when you're coming home from work or a night out with friends.
  8. I agree. He'll get a more lenient sentance in the soft touch UK judicial system. Likely be out within two years (if found guilty of course). As for the Thai's informing the UK customs. Two years ago I returned from BKK to LHR. On arrival, my passport would not work at the E-gates. Had to go to a desk agent. Almost immediately, there were two customs officers there. They escorted me to a holding area, I could see an image on their screen that was one of my cases contents. They questioned me as to what I was bringing with me. One officer took me to baggage re-claim where I collected bags and then to the custom area for a full search. I had with me 30 kilos of massage balm (for a friend who owns a massage shop). That was not what they were interested in though warned me about commercial import rules. What they were interested in was the contents of the other case which had the ashes of a deceased aquaintance being brought back for his family. I had all the paperwork. Still took one hour of searching. This shows that Thailand definitely informed the UK to chaeck my bags. The UK customs would neither confirm nor deny that - with a smile.
  9. Never stop looking, as pedestrian crossings should only be considered as safe as no crossing IMO.
  10. I agree, but some do not meet the requirements or are lazy to do the paperwork themselves. "Nan Services" seem to be popular in Pattaya for Bank accounts and Driving licences for those "on the fringe".
  11. Good? 555 It's definitely a crime!
  12. Although I don't have a Makro near me in Bangkok, I bring olive oil from the UK each year. Much, much better value than Villa market. Il Casolare now £14-£16 per litre in the UK. Still cheaper, and better than Thailand. Few other quality "extra virgin" at reasonable prices in Thailand...
  13. So here lies part of the issue. Is "service charge" a gratuity (TIP) and passed to the staff? I suspect NOT in Thailand. I hate the ++ but have to accept it depending on the establishment - suggest others do too. In the UK, VAT @20% is always included. Many places in UK will add a "discrentionary service charge" of typically 12.5%. This can legitimately be deducted with no issue (in my experience). I then will give the server/s a CASH Tip of greater amount if warranted.
  14. Standard Operating Procedure for Jomtien. Unless you are using an "agent", nothing will be completed on first visit. Mister, come back later, come back tomorrow or next week. SOP.
  15. When turning right, Thais usually go to the left and then do the hard right turn. Recipe for disaster across the traffic.
  16. I learned a long time ago. No point in being right if you are dead right! Wise move by Mike Ryong IMO. Lots of Thais "dissapeared" in Thailand - and out of Thailand.
  17. How many here would be happy to pay Thai taxes at Thai rates, on global income, so long as they received same treatment as Thais? Land ownership, access to government hospitals on same terms as Thais, access to National Parks same as a Thai. No double pricing. Permanent residency with no annual visa extension or 90 day reporting etc. (no issue with not attaining Thai citizenship). Fair is fair right? Percentage of foreigners paying Thai tax would likely be greater than Thai citizens paying Thai tax.
  18. Not wanting to derail the topic, but never went to Texas chicken. Never went to Jamie Oliver either. Wonder how Gordon (Chef) Ramsay is doing with his affiliated ventures in Bangkok. Anyone been?
  19. OMG! This is exactly what I endured living in the UK with my Thai wife. After 13 years I left her. Never looked back. As for the OP, space apart is often a good thing and makes a relationship work. How many here are living in different countries from their wife or GF? Let alone a few miles away. I see no harm giving each other space. I do same for my GF and let her party with friends, she allows me to spend time with my friends. Often all the guys in our group go out together with our ladies as a big group. I go to Pattaya and stay with my lady, or she comes to Bangkok and stays with me. It just works for us. OP shouldn't worry about the western relative's comments.
  20. No. But I have entered on a new passport with no stamps. All stamps - Non-O, extension and re-entry - were in the old passport (got the stamps transferrred later). Leaving will be no trouble at all for you - just show both passports.
  21. Just show both passports on exit. No problem or trouble at all. No repercussions.
  22. I met "Neil" from FazWaz. He showed me a Bangkok resale condo in Suk Soi 11 that I was interested in last year. I found him helpful, professional and communicative. Ultimately, I went on to buy elsewhere. I beleive he sold a condo that a friend of mine had.
  23. AirTag or Samsung Smart Tag cost very little and can be hidden easily on the bike. Battery lasts over a year. That's what I do. Easy to locate.
  24. When does looking become staring? A quick glance? A few seconds? A minute? Sorry that the lady felt harrassed. Lucky for the guy, he wasn't in London. He'd be locked up immediately!
