I haven't read the full thread. Before the site update a few years ago, not only the post count was shown. There used to be a "reputation" count shown too which showed the responses such as likes etc. to the poster. I miss that, as it showed who comments get likes or not. I wish AN would re-instate the "reputation". Was easy to identify the time wasters and troll posters.

Thailand’s first F1 race planned for Bangkok’s Chatuchak by 2027
soi3eddie replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Chatuchak would be a rather boring place - just park areas and not much to see. Far better to hold it in the Hualampong, China Town, Rattanakosin, Sanam Luang areas. Would be a great showcase for promoting Thailand. Would totally <deleted> the traffic for a week, but look at the exposure it would bring to the country. They would definitely breach the precious 40 million visitors per year once they did this. Here's a street circuit that would give good visuals and get a 50 lap race in the F1 alloted time.- 107 replies

Do Thais really attack foreigners for no reason?
soi3eddie replied to MalcolmB's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
No. Thais do not attack foreigners for no reason. In my experience, Thais have been very kind to me, as a foreigner, for "no reason". They are very kind, respectful and generous.- 147 replies

Thailand Targets Tougher Alcohol Laws to Align with Global Norms
soi3eddie replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
So, you've never been to the villages or hung around with younger male working class Thais? Being from the UK, and a family of pub owners, even I was shocked on arriving in Thailand in 2000 by bicycle, from Malaysia. Late afternoon, a group of lads in Narathiwat were drinking at a restaurant. They offered me beer (a no-no when I'm cycling). Then, once arriving in Songkhla, it was party central. Walking by the beach each night, picknicking Thais were offereing me Thai whisky and beer. Few farangs around there in those days. When I married in 2002, in Nakhon Si Thammarat, we had 470 guests (on tables of 10) to our wedding party. Each table insisted that I shared a whisky shot. I tried to politely decline but had to sip more than I cared for. I do not agree with your statement above. -
Thailand Targets Tougher Alcohol Laws to Align with Global Norms

If you want to align with British norms, drinking starts at 08:00am. Just visit any Wetherspoons pub. -

The person asking ChatGPT to generate the image must have written a complex and detailed set of instructions. A very good creation IMO.

I used to pay for Spotify Premium. I cancelled it after realising that just about anything I want to listen to is also available on YouTube Premium. On YT Premium, I download the music videos, mixes, podcasts, films, vlogs to my phone for use offline when on a flight. Can also create and download playlists. Of course, there's also access to all the other content on YT such as films and documentarys. All for just 179 Baht per month. Adios Spotify!

Skype is now only doing monthly subscriptions
soi3eddie replied to stubuzz's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
Me too. I've used Skype for at least 15 years. Skype-in local UK number and unlimited world subscription. The phone app is total shxte and should be redesigned. I hope they don't force users to cancel the Skype-in service as it's very useful for my business. I do find that with WhatsApp and LINE calling (for family and friends), I use Skype a lot less these days - call quality is better on WhatsApp and LINE. -
Thailand police crackdown on pornographic content production
soi3eddie replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Almost certainly. These "Christian" organisations are likely same as those performing setups or exposes in bars in Pattaya and Phuket. Search "Exodus Road Truth". If they are truly protecting vulnerable minors then they should be supported. There is lots of counter commentary about their intentions and behaviours. DYOR and make your own mind up. -
Thailand Birth Rate Nosedives: 81% Drop Surpasses Japan
soi3eddie replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
So many young ladies here in Thailand are getting sterilised (cut/tied) after the birth of their second child - a niece at age 21 did this (first I heard of this being a thing 12 years ago). Since then, a number of ladies I met had done same after 1-2 kids at various ages. Less than the 2.2 children population replacement rate. A few GF I had over the years were of families of 9+ siblings. Not surprised at this news. Costs are a factor here now. Same as in western countries except where welfare is generous as in UK and other countries that support reckless reproduction in certain communities. -
My GF and I visited Yangon (the biggest city and previous capital - as the official capital is now Naypyidaw) for 3 nights in March 2023. Somewhat subdued but no apparent danger. We walked in the night to areas and were treated nicely by the locals. No hassles or scary moments. Daytimes were fine too. No obvious military presence except around the airport.

I've seen a few more Myanmar vlogs recently. Some appear thrill seekers going to country under civil war, others I think, are just in it for the views (and money). I don't expect the Burmese military junta to be same as China, where shills are, allegedly, paid to promote the country and rubbish anything negative.

Go into one of the bigger AIS stores. Take your passport with long term visa and proof of address such as rental contract or utility bills in your name. AIS gave both me and my GF postpaid plans and we are on 1 year retirement extensions.

Is 1 million baht enough to retire in Thailand?
soi3eddie replied to Celsius's topic in General Topics
1 million US Dollars might be enough to retire in Thailand. -
Did I miss which bus terminal the bus departed from? Also, any news on the train service? Last year we got the train right on the Ban Klong Luk border station back to Bangkok. They had brand new Thai immigration facilities on the platform and it looked like they were almost ready to connect with through trains to Cambodia and Phnom Penh.

Thailand Eyes Direct Flights from US Amid Growing Tourist Demand
soi3eddie replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
This was Thai Airways - which reason was it really - unprofitable or deemed unsafe by the FAA? If an American carrier thought it profitable, they would likely already be flying direct non-stop to Thailand. Will Thai ever start flying to USA again on a commercial, rather than vanity, basis? -
Replacement Chanote Marker
soi3eddie replied to recom273's topic in Real Estate, Housing, House and Land Ownership
Land office will come out and re-measure with GPS and replace the post/s if any missing or broken. It will cost a fee. IIRC it was about 4,000 Baht 15+ years ago. My wife (and I), had rice field land, a neighbour removed the markers and extended his farm crops at least 2 metres into our land. We arranged with the land office and they came, measured and reinstalled the markers. We then ensured the boundary by adding much bigger posts so that they would not get overgrown or covered in earth. -
Worth a try. Back in 2002, it was not permitted to use a foreign phone with a Thai sim card (the Thai networks restricted access only to phones with a Thai IMEI). I brought a phone from the UK and one of the shops at MBK changed the IMEI to a Thai registered IMEI and I was then able to use a local sim card. Seems crazy now but that's how it used to be.

Pattaya's Traffic Mayhem Threatens Tourism: City Battles for Solution
soi3eddie replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
We are driving from Bangkok today by private taxi and aim to arrive in central Pattaya no later than 1pm. Hopefully early enough to avoid the chaos - we'll see how that goes. One thing for sure, is that the rest of the weekend will be walking everywhere. GF's 21yr old daughter is working as a Grab/Bolt motorsai rider this weekend to earn extra money. Even getting around the gridlock by bike is difficult during fireworks weekend. -
Cathay Pacific HK airline slammed over 5-hour Bangkok delay
soi3eddie replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Almost certainly at the demand of Thai Immigration Police - the people on the plane would already have exited the country. Allowing them back in to a hotel would mean they are back in the country. Could have been explained to the passengers. Or, better still, they could have been cleared back in via immigration. Possibly, many might not then have had visas or met entry requirements. Either way, seems like the airline should have explained to the passengers. -
