  1. Go to Lopburi by train, Grab or Bolt and enjoy. Plenty of nice hotels there. Hopefully you won't get bitten by the dirty, aggressive, and marauding macaques. Let us know how you get on and do, please, share videos of your close up encounters.

Pro tip: Take as many fresh bananas and shiny objects as you can and guard them with your life 🙂

The thing that set me off was that it seemed to be only about sex for the guy: from online contact using google translate to getting married on the first meeting. no courting, no honeymoon, no effort to get to know her parents, purely a financial transaction.

Always amusing when seeing an older guy and younger lady using Google translate. Whether in a bar in Hua Hin or on street in Soi 4 Bangkok. Come on guys. You can, and should, be better than that!

He will find it impossible to move Thai kids to the UK without an accepted and paid up course.

Even if he was to try and move his wife and kids to the UK, he would have a very hard time getting a visa for the 16 year old.  Even the 13 year old wouldn't be so easy.  UK Immigration don't give a hoot about splitting families up. The older kids are, the harder it gets.

Whatever happened to adopted European law of "right to family life"? That's why I said do it ASAP!

Ever since dope got legalised the place seems to have got worse,

Totally agree. Land of stoners and losers. Worse than ever which is sad for the people of Thailand who, bless them, deserve better of foreigners. I was in Pattaya last week. Walking down Buakhao heading to hotel after after early am excercise, passing Easy Corner (opposite R-Con Corner), aged westerners on the beer at 07:30am eating breakfast FFS! Come on guys, life is more than that.

Investigating takes not only time but skill. And a willingness to ask questions, something that in Thailand is beaten out of them as soon as they begin school as they might ask something the teacher doesn't have an answer to and face is lost.

@Bangkok Barry Challenge and discuss is never going to happen in Thailand. Never question a teacher or person in authority or elder. Lest they may be wrong and lose face. If the teacher does not have an answer they should fess up and guide the student in procurring the correct knowledge. Sadly unlikely to happen as we all know.

In related news, five members of a Russian gang have been apprehended for the kidnapping and extortion of a Belarusian couple in Phuket, forcing them to transfer 30 million baht in cryptocurrency before abandoning them. The incident occurred on January 31, at a prominent hotel in the Talad Yai area of Mueang Phuket district.

Stop with this "related news". It is not "related" and has nothing to do with the OP headline. Does it?

Also surprised that no-one has mentioned (or I think not) that the 'so called' flagship UK airline British Airways has not flown to Thailand since the pandemic and will not do so again until October 2024 when it will only fly here three times a week from London Gatwick which is better than nothing I guess but is hardly a vote of confidence in Thailand or the economic recovery in Europe.  Luckily I haven't flown BA for years as it is rubbish i.e. old planes, old staff, poor service, dire food so it's been EVA or Emirates usually for me.

And the upcoming British Airways flights will be on aging B777 200 planes from <deleted>wick. An airport a very long way from central London.

  8. My take on the OP decline of British tourists to Thailand is two fold.

    1) The lower end of the socio economic scale are hurting financially and cannot afford to travel to Thailand (higher airfares or cannot afford to travel at all). Many that can travel, will be going to lower air fare destinations such as Spain and The Canary Islands.

    2) The higher end of the socio economic scale are looking for new adventures. Many I meet on flights to Thailand are then continuing elsewhere such as Vietnam and Laos for their holidays.

ThaigerTalk - the forum of The Thaiger - is dedicated to Free Speech with little to no moderation.  Only when members report breaches/complaints a Moderator will look at the case and make a fair decision with TT's Free Speech policy as over-riding principle.

Will be interesting to see how that will affect AseanNow's current moderation approach.

Moderators may be redundant too. Artificial Interlligence could be used. Not only for moderation but to write articles.

  10. I arrived back in "The Land of NO Smiles" a few days ago. Nobody, in real life here believes inflation is down. Nothing but price rises everywhere from utilities to food to fuel prices. Anyone who thinks that interest rates are coming down (more than a token .25%) is deluded. More pain to come I'm afraid and with that the s.h.i.t.e shows of London mayoral elections in a few weeks and a UK general election before December. Add in geopolitical events and conflicts and the US elections then it's going to be a rough year. Good luck everyone!

WHETHER AND WHEN deposed prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra might eventually return home from self-exile abroad without being subsequently thrown into jail would only depend on her own brother/de facto Pheu Thai boss-cum-convict on parole Thaksin Shinawatra and nobody else.

Free pass for the Shinawatras nowadays. Simply "when" will she return? Anyone want to open a book of odds on what illness she will suddenly be stricken down with that requires a VIP suite at the Police General Hosptal in lieu of jail?

With regard to Dr Jack54 comment are you saying that there is no way I can successfully renew my retirement visa on my own without going through the agent. Notwithstanding the alternative of starting the process in the UK?

If you want to renew now, you will have to use the agent again. Best option, visit another nearby country and let your current visa/extension lapse. Reenter Thailand visa exempt, go direct to immigration and apply for Non-O retirement and then do extension properly. That's what I did. You now qualify - just make sure that you have the FIT incoming document for at least 800,000k Baht from overseas from your Thai bank. You do not have to go back to the UK.
