  1. Be very careful... shopping for price will lead you to disappointment long term... Educate yourself about the technical aspects - I would focus on native resolution... Very soon ALL movies and such will be in HD.. (Remember the VCR)... make sure that any TV you buy now will be able to handle HD resolution content... also I would make sure a computer will hook up to it where the resolutions are compatible... Ex: netflix.com will let you download/watch any movie now... Soon all US TV content (ABC,CSB,NBC,FOX...) will be streaming on the internet... This is the wave of the future... make sure your TV can handle it :o

  2. When you sign up and pay for the Thai language course the school will send you a confirmation. With this document you can apply at a Thai consulate for a non-immigrant visa category Ed (Education). When you arrive with this visa in Thailand you get permission to stay for 90 days. With a document you should get from your school you then can get an extension of permission to stay for one year from the Immigration office in Thailand.

    Maestro

What are the chances that consulate in the USA will issue a 1 year multiple entry ED visa (as apposed to the 90 day visa) with just a conformation letter from a school that you have signed up for a Thai Language Course?... The Los Angeles consulate website says it issues them on a "Case-by-case" basis... http://www.thai-la.net/visa/visa-non-im-ed.htm

  3. One trick I have learned being a EVA Gold member... The online seat reservation system will not allow you to choose certain seats in Deluxe Class (like those two center lone seats in the nose of the 747)... But if you call and identify yourself as Gold Member they fall all over you... "Yes Yes you gold member... seat available"... :o Also their website has a detailed seating chart of all their planes...

  4. I am interested in buying the new HTC Touch with Mobile 6 which will allow me to access my MS Hotmail - My question is how does Mobile 6 access the EDGE data network? Is the phone always online?... requiring me to buy an unlimited plan or does it just log onto the data network periodically for a minute or two and sync the mail in which case I can get away with a per minute plan?

  5. Given that no Thai language school may be a perfect fit. What happens if you choose a school and that school is used to get a ED visa and you decide to go to another school?... Will you be given an ED visa extension with paperwork from a different school than your original visa request or will you have to start all over again and leave the country to apply for a new ED visa?

  6. Am I wrong about this? I appreciate your feedback.

The OP started this thread with a bit of a rant... now he has now transformed himself into a regular guy who has been taken advantage of by the fine print...

It is interesting to look at one of his past posts from last June...

"i have also been shut out of singapore after 4 2 month tourist visas were issued. The last time they wrote a lengthy note in my passport that I should get the proper paperwork if I plan to work in Thailand. They went on to say that the Singapore office will no longer issue me a tourist visa" http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?sh...p;#entry1344879

... I do not think the OP is a very sympathetic character who wishes the rest of the world to follow the rules...

  7. The trick (or problem) is what your TV's connectors are and its native resolution... If your TV has a VGA plus similar to your computer monitor plug it in and boot up your computer... Now the real problem ensues... The native resolution of your TV will most likely not match your computers output... right click on the desktop and try to find a setting close to your TV...

If your TV has no VGA plug you can buy a PC Card that has an S-Video output to plug into you TV... This will look crappy as a computer but for movies it might be ok...

  8. I wonder if there are reliable banks in USA that allow to initiate wire transfer to Thailand online. There are discussions about Bank of America but seems to have various success stories? How about checking account with Everbank, Bank of Internet or any other banks? Any success story that can been shared and the fees involved?

    Thanks a bunch.

:D I have a small local bank in Massachusetts that lets me initate wire transfers to Thailand on line. To transfer money to Thailand I had to first sign and return a form and set a max amount for each monthly transfer. I recieved a pin code by registered mail. Now to transfer money on a monthly basis, I just have to email the bank which starts the wire transfer with my email address and a verification code (not my pin code). Cost is $15 per wire transfer.

    :D

That is most interesting - Could you possibly have shared the name of the bank with us :o

  9. I would say that repressive societies drive many to hookup in this way... But there is a large proportion who find this kind of sex as exciting. I am from San Francisco (One of the least repressive places in America) and there are MANY well known places! - Including the last train on the BART subways (There is a Yahoo Group for that one :o) ... Many treat it as a sport here... The challenge of the hunt... A smile... A stare too long... A bit of risk...

  10. This makes no sense to me... What if you save all those years and have built up a 401k and have a regular Charles Schwab account that is invested in mutual funds... You turn 65 and decide to retire to Thailand... Are you saying you then must liquidate all your mutual funds in all your accounts?... I think what the OP has experienced was Charles Schwab just being careful to protect themselves from fraud by a new customer. I would assume if you are a US citizen and have a social security number to inform the IRS of income and they could be comfortable that you are not a money launderer then Charles Schwab would be fine...

  11. I have done EVA's SFO-BKK at least a dozen times... Every time with a 45 minute layover in the SFO to BKK segment and have never had a problem with connection the CKS airport is pretty straight foreword and organized I usually have time to go to their lounge and take a quick shower (The lounge is on the upper level of the shopping area) and I actually prefer the deluxe cabin to the business class upstairs which as a bit too claustrophobic for me.
