  1. I could afford to lose 1% but am not one to gamble, even if I make $300 on a $10,000 outlay, I'm happy, steady as she goes, even if Bitcoin doubled, it could easily drop as quickly and I could handle that personally.
  2. Not into roller coaster rides, steady as she goes, I remain content with 8% nett, tax free returns over the past few years.
  3. Can I suggest you "invest" in some private hospital cover, that way you won't have to worry, in fact you could be the one insisting on every test possible, but make sure you read the policy as most cover for emergency treatments and an emergency is a stay of 24 hours, so enjoy the private room and if you get lucky maybe one of the pretty nurses can sing you a lullaby when it's sleep time. putting 200 baht a day aside shouldn't be that hard for peace of mine in the LOS, some would say that stands for Land of Sharks ???? Hope the pain doesn't come back and that you don't have any underlying condition.
  4. I found it was easy to rock up to the Provincial Health Office yesterday to register after a tip off by a mate, registration was only for the day. Might be worth making enquiries to your Provincial Health Office to see if they are going to be taking applications at their office ? Worth a go.
  5. To be honest, I am not sure, but most were western foreigners who looked well over 60 except for a couple of guys who I would say were in their 40's & early 50's, plus a western couple with a baby who would have been in their 30's. As I was leaving the Uni after my Pfizer shot today, the lines were filling for Thai's of all ages for either their 1st shot of Sinovac and for those getting their 2nd shot after having the Sinovac being AZ. The signage was clear as daylight, Sinovac + AZ, so I took it to read the way I have explained above.
  6. In and out in less than 3 hours, pretty well organised too. One down, 1 to go in 3 weeks. Hope KK comes through for all who registered.
  7. Some extracts for you to read from the article in the link below may assist, no doubt in my mind what transpired, however I didn't think it was short lived, e.g. 3 months, I thought it was longer, but hey, I was here so I didn't really pay to much attention. Thailand began allowing selected international arrivals from July 1, 2020, as the country began easing its lockdown measures. Diplomats, work permit holders, international students, and family members of Thai nationals are some of the categories of travelers being permitted to enter. All travelers, however, will need to have a negative COVID-19 health certificate prior to arrival and must be willing to undergo a 14-day quarantine at a government-designated hotel. From July 1, 2020, Thailand began allowing the entry of selected international travelers for the first time in three months since the country entered a nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Foreigners who have Thai spouses, and those with work permits or residency in Thailand, have been permitted to enter the country. The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) laid out the criteria and protocol for which international travelers must adhere by. Family members of Thai nationals (parent/spouse/children) The spouses, parents, or children of Thai nationals can apply for a Certificate of Entry to enter Thailand. Applicants will need to show a copy of their visa, and if expired, will need to apply for a new one. Immigration authorities may ask for more supporting documents, such as evidence of property ownership in the country. https://www.aseanbriefing.com/news/thailand-allows-entry-selected-international-travelers/
  8. Actually you not going to believe this, a mate of mine text me today saying to get to Udon Thani Provincial Health Office today as they were taking Pfizer registrations today only and once you put in your form you turn up at a University between 10-12 the following day for the Pfizer jab. I couldn't find anything about it online, same with the wife and she said, don't waste your time as it's an hours drive, I text the mate back and said how good is your info and he said a mate past it onto him but he hadn't been yet, so I said to the Mrs, nothing ventured, nothing gained, grabbed me passport and off I went, BINGO, all good, tomorrow between 10-12. I also text me mate and said, Oi, get your a$$ over here because they close at 5pm and it's a one off, with his reply being just getting out of the car. Waiting for Expatvac was a concern as it appeared that the left arm didn't know what the right arm was doing, and my hope was on Bangkok Hospital Khon Kaen coming good, but one thing I've learnt living in Thailand is to never wait for something to happen and to never expect something to happen, you got to be as pro-active if you can, because we all know about Thai time. Fingers crossed everything goes according to plan tomorrow, and if it does I will notify both of the other sites to remove my application so that someone else can take my place, i.e. it they ever eventuate.
  9. I can only go off recollection here on TVF a long while back, so one would have to search to find the post, so I couldn't say 100% for certain. The above said I do know of a farang who was on a retirement extension and married to a Thai with his marriage registered at the local Amphur who couldn't get in until they started allowing people in and quarantining for 14 days. I know this much, 1st thing he was change his extension to a marriage extension, again can only go off what I have read and heard, have no personal experience on it.
  10. What a great idea you just gave me, i.e. as I get my 1st Pfizer jab tomorrow, I will go and get some blood drawn from around the corner to check my antigen levels and then do it again on day 14 so as to see if the level has increased before the 2nd dose which will be 3 weeks after the 1st dose, and then I will do it again 14 days after the 2nd dose to see where my antigen levels are at.
  11. If you ask me, the marriage extension has always had more weight than the retirement extension, so perhaps you should reconsider what you are contemplating. Do you remember all of those expats on retirement extensions outside of Thailand truing to get back in, well those with marriage extensions did get in, with those on retirement extensions having to wait for a hell of a long time, and a lot of them married to Thai's. You did mention it's not that much of a hassle to do the paperwork, and I agree as I have everything save in a folder and just press x 2 for each PDF when it comes time to get the marriage extension, which includes the same photos and map, then a 20 minute drive to the bank for the letter, the Amphur around the corner for an updated confirmation that I am still married, while waiting for the bank letter, and the same small photo of self which they usually give you plenty of copies at the local photo shop. The next day will take the hour 20 drive to immigration, however stop at the bank branch their and withdrawal 1,000 baht and get my book updated and then next door get two copies of that page to put with the other copies of the bank book pages. The 30 day wait has never come into my mind, I just go back when they tell me and collect, that is their job, I won't bend to their laziness, first time I cam here they convinced the wife to put me onto a retirement visa because the process was easier as we were told, well what if I was outside of the country when all those farangs on retirement extensions couldn't get back in, that would be gut wrenching being away from the family for so long, not to mention the expensive rent that I would have to be paying. Choice is yours of course.
  12. It is normal to receive phone calls, I received one confirming an appointment for 7 June when I registered on the Mor Prom site for AZ, but declined, then registered at the local hospital and they called me with Sinovac and I declined, now waiting on an email confirmation for Pfizer at Bangkok Hospital in Khon Kaen or Expatvac to send me something on Pfizer, or I wait for when Moderna arrives in Udon Thani in October, so to answer your question, a phone call is enough, just make sure your paperwork is in order and copies of same to make it easier for your quick departure. Good luck.
  13. I don't get bored often, but when I do, I go outside via the back door and walk to the front door, I knock then run inside and ask, who's there ?
  14. Half cocked information as usual, i.e. no ages of the deceased, no information if these people had underlying medical conditions or were obese, which brings me to the old saying, are we comparing apples with apples, obviously not IMO. Where is my Pfizer or Moderna shot, this is not good.
  15. Also, at least with this site, we weren't ask to upload docs with an upload + button that wouldn't allow us to upload more docs as requested in the Expatvac site and we can click on the site, put in our passport details and see that we are in, now just a matter of time, say around 5 September or so before we get a confirmation email that it's a go, failing that, if Expatvac is a fail which I believe it is, then I will wait till October to see where they are at with the Moderna at Udon Thani that I paid for in full. As you can see, I haven't got all of my eggs in one basket, especially in Thailand. We wait and see what will transpire, no point in holding out breath.
  16. I am coming to think that 3 would means a group in the time slots allocated, or it represents a hold till they get a firm confirmation that they Pfizer heading their way sometime between 5 September and 12 September as some have mentioned. Once the confirmation comes for them then they role out the emails by pressing 3 for all concerned ?
  17. I take it you didn't get my sarcasm ? Wonder what would happen if they had flights for blacks and flights for whites, oooops, going back in time, let's not, suffice to say everyone has a right to choose and we can disagree with their choices, but respect "their" decisions, after all could you imagine a society where we all were forced to comply, no thanks, I choose to get vaccinated, if they choose not to, I am not going to worry about it because I can still infect them regardless of the fact that I will be vaccinated, and if I do infect them, i.e. the unvaccinated, well I wish the a speedy recovery.
  18. Yeh like wise, backup plan is paid for Moderna for October in Udon Thani, but I am pretty confident Khon Kaen will pull through, if not, it will be Udon Thani in October if Moderna comes through, otherwise will be up Sheet Creek as they say.
  19. I hope there never comes a time that I need to claim, a bit like having your car insured and hoping not to be involved in an accident where your car could be off the road for a while, or ridden off, if I was ever hospitalised, well I am covered and they will pay for it, that's part and parcel of being insured by a reputable insurer, and if I am written off, well that's when life insurance coughs up to the wife. When shopping around, you can find an insurer that will insure you till your expiry date and if my insurer turned around and said no more insurance, they would have to have a good reason, suffice to say, as long as I can continue to afford them, I will continue to be insured, the benefits outweigh the risks for me as I gracefully age in a foreign country, that said, if I was back home, well I would be under Medicare, similar to NHS, but I am here, so I pay for where I want to be treated, i.e. in a private hospital vs a government hospital, albeit some public hospitals have good reputations, but my last experience was enough to throw me off of them. Call me a snob, but I can afford it and it is my preferred choice, besides no longer than a 5-10 minute wait with coffee and biscuits while you wait, did I mention drop dead gorgeous nurses that I would love to jab, I mean be jabbed by, I mean checked by while my blood pressure rises, well you know what I mean ????
  20. Thanks for that, that makes perfect sense. I am from Udon Thani which is a neighbouring province, so hoping they will accept that. Let's keep everyone up to date when we receive our confirmation of appointment emails. Do you have a backup plan if this doesn't come good ?
