  1. I'm sure she's pleased she didn't get "bagged". At least this incident took the spotlight off the Chinese VVIP Police Escort "misunderstanding". The RTP need to provide guidance to tourists re: carrying passports, required/not required, and why traffic stops of taxis require passengers to be subjected to searches, and how tourists should behave when stopped. Optionally include a graft chart detailing the charge and the associated "fee". And a guide to nearby ATMs would be helpful. The RTP/DSI/Branch 191 allegedly extorted 20 million baht to free some eleven Chinese nationals during the Nairu Consul raid, so extortion seems to be SOP for the RTP. https://www.nationthailand.com/thailand/general/40024149
  2. copy and paste into Google: schwab transfer bangkok bank site:aseannow.com My vaguest recollection is that Schwab offers fee-free international SWIFT wire transfers (at least for some customers), which can be initiated on-line or by a call. That means you get the TT rate, and 0.25% (200 min, 500 max) when you xfer USD direct to BBL in Thailand, and avoid the BBL NYC fee.
  3. Not sure who "she" is but I'd process that into bubble hash. For quality indoor, dried and cured, 250/gram is probably a decent wholesale price. Not sure why you're even concerned about prices given how proficient you are as a grower? I think you boasted about growing 50 ounces "last year".
  4. "held up". Classic. Interesting how the police version of events has evolved over time, starting with "this didn't happen" through "it may have happened" to "Visa problem", to "fine for illegal vaporizer". "And if you mention extortion one more time I'll have your legs broken." Thank goodness she didn't get the "plastic bag" treatment. Rarely a day goes by without a story of police corruption. Who knew there were so many "bad apples"?
  5. I think the answer to this question is no. While Thailand wants to get into the aircraft servicing business, and has to a limited degree via THAI Maintenance (at BKK and UTP), I don't think they'd violate Boeing sanctions. Aeroflot is keeping some of their leased aircraft (A350) on domestic routes as these would be seized if flown outside of Russia. Aeroflot recently purchased 10 777 off of lease to avoid seizure. They are flying these to Thailand. It looks like Azur are flying 76x and 75x to Thailand (HKT, UTP). There was a dust-up with Laos, so these flights may have had to refuel in Myanmar. That may have been addressed? I think the Russian option is to slap a yellow INOP sticker on the failed device and limp back home to scanvenged parts and repairs. — Jan. 6: An Azur Air international flight to Thailand with 263 people on board returned to Novosibirsk six hours after takeoff due to windshield damage. https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2023/01/10/sanctioned-russian-aviation-sector-hit-by-slew-of-incidents-in-new-year-a79903
  6. Facebook. https://aseannow.com/topic/1264162-weed-vaporizer/ Not certain dry-herb vaporizers are illegal as they are fundamentally different from eCigs. But the "law" here is fungible. The Taiwanese actress seems to have paid a 27,000 baht "fine" for possession of a vaporizer. https://lztoad.com/ https://chumrearn.com/ https://www.greenlungsth.com/ There have been reports of Thai Post/Customs siezing vaporizers from off-shore (AliExpress).
  7. From 19 January 2023 DTAM requires all licensed dispensaries to record all sales, on paper, monthly, with the details of the licensed farm and and the purchaser's name, ID.
  8. This chinese crew were paying for protection, unfortunately it was to local police. 191/SBB wanted their cut. Think this Tuhao gang has been been chewed down to the carcass. 191/SBB, along with ISOC, have a reputation for maintaining the political status quo. See Red Drum killings.
  9. Slid across my timeline... https://www.facebook.com/congcarter.muaythai.33
  10. I asked my Doctor at Bumrungrad about Shingrix last week, and he wasn't that encouraged with the prospects of it being available here anytime soon.
  11. Agreed. And then there's the 1 million plus Thais who've registered on PlookGanja to grow cannabis, and thousands of others who've registered to sell and distribute cannabis. Suspect many of them vote?
  12. Agreed but there are reasons, not made public of course, why there are choosing NOT to increase the current international PSC from 700 baht to 1,000 baht. I think the 700 baht gets remitted directly to AoT, who may or may not kick back some to various ministries. And EVERYONE, including Thais would end up paying +300 this way, so a rebate would be the only option. I suspect the Tourism and Sport Ministry Permanent Secreatary wants to get their grubby little mitts on this MASSIVE windfall. That giant home safe isn't going to fill itself. And they want this done NOW, before the government is dissolved. Still unclear how this will be implemented, collected and stolen administered. Airlines and their GDSes have been reluctant to add another line item just for Thailand's graft tourism-enhanced operation.
  13. No. Your "take" is incorrect. The production, distribution, possession, sale and use of Cannabis flowers, now classified as a "controlled herb" rather than a "narcotic", is legal, with some common-sense controls. This has been well-documented for at least six months. Parliament, specifically several political parties, doesn't want to deal with the Cannabis Bill given the short fuse on their current make-up and existence. There will be a dissolution soon, a new election and a new parliamentary session next year. I don't get the hang-up on this Cannabis Bill? Yes, it may clear up some minor issues, but it's hardly necessary for the well-being of the Kingdom, or its visitors. DTAM (traditional medicine arm of the MoPH) is set to introduce the requirement the use of a national ID for purchase, and resulting computer records. Not sure what will eb required of tourists? Passport I imagine. This has been signed, but not yet Gazetted.
  14. I guess if I were looking for any criminal, from any country, I'd start my search in Thailand. Thailand must be the number one choice in the various guidebooks for multi-national criminal figures.
  15. I renewed both auto and MC a few weeeks ago at Chatuchak DLT, I had two CoRs - requested at Imm/CW, and two medical certificates, all originals.
  16. Are you eligible for any of the free offers? Can't you just complete the questionnaire? At least to narrow down your options. https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile/general/ For me... Based on your criteria, there are 0 offers you are eligible to use. OLT has a $41,000 AGI cap. https://www.olt.com/main/oltfree/default.asp I paid for TurboTax, Basic, $40. $42.50 with sales tax. I'm set to eFile on 24 Jan.
  17. Most opt for the unlimited volume/fixed bandwidth (10/20/30 Mbps) option, and while there are periodic promotions DTAC does seem to have the only 30 Mbps option at 1,690. It also includes quite a bit, 60 HOURS?, of free voice calls to any provider. For the limited volume/"unlimited" speed option, True has a nice offer now (Yearly Sim Thep) currently ay 1,190 per year, 1,000 Mbps and 70 GB monthly volume cap. And UNLIMITED free calls to any mobile provider. True and DTAC are about to merge. https://www.facebook.com/Treemobilembk Most entry-level 4G routers are limited on the ethernet side to 100 Mbps, and on the WiFi side to 150 Mbps, so if you want the higher speeds you'll have to buy a higher spec router.
  18. Fallout from https://www.nationthailand.com/thailand/40023538 20 million baht paid for the release of 11 suspects. The assumption being that the "chief" did not know about this incident, assume he likes it that way, at least until he gets his cut.
  19. I have a Fidelity Brokerage account, I maintain a U.S. address. For 2FA on the web platform, the only options are call or text. I have three numebrs registered, with Google Voice as my primary. That works 100% of the time. For me anyway, there is no 2FA when using the mobile app.
  20. Some in the Senate are proposing removing the eight-year term limit for the PM. This would be known as the Hun Sen amendment.
  21. The Bentley in question was supposedly previously impounded in a tax evasion case, after being illegally imported from the U.K. Nothing to see here, after picking up a Bentley at the Joe Ferrari car dealership, the owner stopped off at Boss's dentist for a check up. Then there was brake failure. Happens all the time.
  22. Correct. There are other threads for the 7162. Yes. Past threads on this topic indicate these getting delivered more towards the end of January, or early February. Me as well, no SSA-1099 for 2022 on mySSA site. I've received other 1099 documents for 2022 in the last 24 hours. Again, surprisngly early in my recent experience.
  23. IME, last month, Chatuchak DLT, 5 year renewal auto/mc... CoR issued at CW accepted within 30 days for APPOINTMENT purposes. My renewal date appointment was ~ +45 days and the CoR was acceptable for issuance for licenses. I don't think you can make an appoinment without the CoR. I'd inquire at the Korat DLT.
  24. Surprised this showed up so early. 13 January 2023 Bangkok, 10110
  25. But they, parks management, need to kick back 18-20% of their annual budget to the minister and permanent secretary, for you know, "amulets".
