  1. Yellow Line must replace all bolts on finger plates for safety The Rail Transport Department has ordered Eastern Bangkok Monorail (EBM) to replace all the bolts used to tighten finger plates along the entire length of the Yellow Line track, after it was discovered that some bolts were missing between the Rama 9 and Si Udom stations, due to joint expansion. They fell onto the walkway below. The Yellow Line concessionaire was also ordered to speed up the recovery of a train which is blocking a track, so that the full service can resume, said Pichet Kunadhamraks, head of the Rail Transport Department, adding that the removal could take 2-3 months. https://www.thaipbsworld.com/yellow-line-must-replace-all-bolts-on-finger-plates-for-safety/
  2. Right now this objection is being addressed by proponents who say that Thais will NOT be allowed in these casinos. Exceptions for wealthy Thais. You can't swing a dead cat here without hitting at least two illegal, underground casinos. Thais have no shortage of casino, or animal-based combat, options.
  3. This move has been rumored for at least the past month, I honestly assumed it was already done. Maybe the divestiture of stocks was holding things up. Although having the SET Chairman directly holding shares seems like a conflict of interest.
  4. ...to a foreign news outlet. Has he said similar things in the Thai press? Weird move, but he is incompetent when dealing with the non-Thai press. He should have moved quickly off the cannabis topic, unless this was his major message. IMO he talks too much. Work with Parliament to pass a Cannabis Control Act, if he is sincere.
  5. I thinkk the RTN has decided on a Frigate OR two Off-shore Patrol Vehicles. But who knows with these .... They'll probably come back with a Frigatarine, which won't survive its first dive. Passing that 2024 budget, finally, means Thai cabinet/permanent secretaries can raid the budget. Off to China with a huge wad of cash.
  6. Interesting that Thai authorities utilize water canons, tear gas, rubber bullets, live ammo, and the occasional chair and rope to "control" citizens during protests. But with monkeys, they get all Buddhist-y and use slingshots. And of course there are two monkey gangs.
  7. Wait until they have to evacuate trains in the dark, during heavy rain, with damaged electrical systems. What could go wrong. I think they've been lucky so far. Maybe best to shut down both Yellow and Pink lines for an independent safety audit - could be done over Songkhran. Or they could just buy more amulets.
  8. As near as I can determine, all of the proposed bills are all-encompassing, with some more liberal and some more restrictive. Only one bill will be passed (or not) which may contain provisions from some/all of the five (or four, or six) other bills. I think they all cover changes to the Alcohol Beverage Control Law(s), and cover... advertising, marketing of alcohol, this may include fewer restrictions re: social media posts sales hours, retail, restaurants, bars, including special alcohol areas/districts/zones A decent round-up: https://www.thaipbsworld.com/booze-battle-thailand-still-missing-the-middle-path-in-alcohol-control/
  9. Awesome bumper sticker on the Mazada.
  10. The RTP is simply put, Organized Crime. Full stop. Maybe with a civilian oversight board, that is Royally Sanctioned, some progress could be made. But let's be honest. No one wants, nor has the power, to make changes.
  11. So you're counting on Srettha to reform the RTP? And it will be easy? The clownish PM can barely dress himself. Laughable.
  12. The most amazing thing about this latest intra-RTP dust-up is that it is so public. The corruption, and fights over the proceeds, are nothing new. But in the past, while widely privately acknowledged, it was rarely discussed in public. A few senior officers, from both sides, will have to take the fall. And then all will proclaim everything is fine and it was a few bad apples.
  13. Maybe not fabulous today? https://aqicn.org/city/thailand/nan/municipality-office/ Part of the appeal of Nan is that it is hard to get to, and under-touristed.
  14. Twelve vehicles (nine automobiles and three motorcycles) were damaged by falling debris. A train stalled between stations and passengers had to exit the train and walk along the viaduct to the nearest station. https://twitter.com/i/status/1773182124503286113 It looks like a significant failure of that cable housing. I think this has happened before, maybe on the Pink Line?
  15. More falling debris...lucky no one has been injured or killed. Yellow Line monorail halted after metal parts fall onto street below https://www.nationthailand.com/thailand/general/40036781 Earlier this year it was a wheel falling off. What a joke. Yellow Line’s wheel deal: MRT mishap takes a detour, hits taxi, driver escapes unscathed near Bangkok https://aseannow.com/topic/1315994-yellow-line’s-wheel-deal-mrt-mishap-takes-a-detour-hits-taxi-driver-escapes-unscathed-near-bangkok/
  16. Not my job to educate you but Michael Cohen was charged by the U.S. Government. He pleaded guilty to eight felonies. https://www.justice.gov/usao-sdny/pr/michael-cohen-pleads-guilty-manhattan-federal-court-eight-counts-including-criminal-tax The Manhattan DA charged trump with falsifying business records, a misdemeanor, waved a NYS legal wand and turned it into a felony. To secure a conviction on the felony charge, prosecutors would have to prove that records were falsified with the intention of committing or concealing a second crime. It’s not clear what prosecutors may allege as the second crime. https://whyy.org/articles/trump-indictment-hush-money-investigation-explained/
  17. When was the last time you filed a TM30? When was the last time you filed a TM47? I think there may be some requirement for filing in person for your first report. If you go in person, consider making an appointment.
  18. This is a pretty weak case, a rube-goldberg-ish legal foundation. It's been called a "Zombie" case, a misdemeanor at best. I can't see him being convicted, there will be a hung jury and the DA will have no appetite to try it again. An older article... The indictment that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is currently seeking against former President Donald Trump—over his payment to silence a porn star about their sexual affair—is based on a crime that was so flimsy it was never viewed as a standalone criminal case, according to three attorneys who have worked on that investigation. Bragg, who inherited the investigation from his predecessor, Cy Vance Jr., shut down the wider operation soon after entering the office—and only recently revived this narrow portion as a single case. https://www.thedailybeast.com/manhattan-district-attorney-insiders-worry-the-trump-stormy-daniels-alvin-bragg-hush-money-case-is-weak-sauce
  19. Buddhist temples being used for money laundering? It might be simpler to just skim 5% of GDP and give it to the police, military, and a few select others. Certainly would be more efficient than shake-downs.

  21. Meanwhile, the PM is considering visa-free travel for Tajikistan residents.
  22. Police corruption? In Thailand? I'm shocked. The Revenue Department should be collecting tax on this "income". And victims should be able to deduct payments on their tax forms.
  23. "his"? The original story was that he illegally took this bike from the police impound lot, where it was being stored as evidence in another case. Police family, his father was his direct supervisor, so they could "raise" the funds.
