Trump wins last-minute reprieve as judge cuts fraud bond to $175m
bamnutsak replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Seems like a reasonable conclusion to this week's episode. No shark-jumping required. He looked pleased, but kind of low-energy on the post-presser. Maybe the meds were wearing off? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJXq3wvLaQI -
He's facing legal bills in at least one wrongful death civil trial, and begging for money currently. You can pre-order his book: https://rittenhousebook.com/ from last week: Kyle Rittenhouse stormed offstage after facing protesters’ jeers during an event at the University of Memphis on Wednesday night. https://www.yahoo.com/news/kyle-rittenhouse-abandons-q-being-191805004.html

Extortion by Ministry of Agriculture task force exposed by senator

He's an "earner". This government is as corrupt as they are incompetent. Meanwhile, Chada Thaiset is Anutin's Deputy Interior Minister, in charge of identifying "influential people". https://www.nationthailand.com/in-focus/30316547 https://www.thaipbsworld.com/chada-thaised-ferocious-opponent-of-pitas-pm-bid-has-a-dark-and-violence-racked-history/ https://www.nationthailand.com/thailand/general/40031685 -
From the article “A suspicion of mine is that there are too many preachy females … ‘Don’t drink beer, don’t watch football, don’t eat hamburgers, this is not good for you,'” he said. “The message is too feminine: ‘Everything you’re doing is destroying the planet. You’ve got to eat your peas.'” "Suspicion"? Don't think he named any of these "preachy females"? Anyone who's seen his recent whiteboard videos realizes he's gone 'round the bend. I get it, he's rightly worried that trump will win so he's trying to pull the alarm. Can't wait to hear him weigh in on the Kim Mulkey "hit-piece" coming in the WaPo.

Thai-China high-speed rail set to boost ASEAN connectivity
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Interesting article about the crash... https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2012/10/22/boss-rail -
Not if they're leaving, right? So it's national "do your job day" today? And were they "laxly" enforcing immigration laws previously?

Thai-China high-speed rail set to boost ASEAN connectivity

Gigantic spit take on this one... It's a Thai railroad. And where is China sending all these tanks, equipment and troops, in 2058 when the Khorat section is finally completed? R&R in Pattaya? -

And these were Srettha's best accomplishments. He was ill-prepared for the job, thinking it was just about swanning around the country/world like a celebrity. If he had an ounce of dignity he would resign. He doesn't, and he won't. At least he's not yapping about a Land Bridge or a fictional wallet.

Plans for new airport in northern Thailand set to take off
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Chiang Rai News
These new airports/refits/expansions seem to be a bit hit or miss. Thailand’s New Deep South Airport: Dead on Arrival? A new airport in Betong is supposed to spark development in Thailand’s troubled south, but practical considerations limit its potential. https://thediplomat.com/2022/04/thailands-new-deep-south-airport-dead-on-arrival/ -
He recorded phone calls with his boss... https://thethaiger.com/hot-news/crime/thailands-top-cop-embroiled-in-the-surachat-car-shooting-case-audio-clip-released And he blew the whistle on Police Chief Chakthip Chaijinda for the Biometric Project graft/corruption. https://www.nationthailand.com/thailand/general/40029675 He was also publicly admonished by Prayut in March 2020, via an formal letter, for misconduct and negligence. He has also threatened that if he were to release all the dirt he has on the RTP that organization would be severely hampered. He doesn't appear to play well with others.

Fidelity does not charge me any SWIFT fee, nor does the corresponding bank (JP Morgan Chase). Bangkok Bank charges a sliding fee, 200 - 500 baht. I make monthly transfers, but I do have to phone in the transfer, and they rigorously verify (originating phone number, MyVoice, and even a callback after the request.) Fidelity reimburses the local ATM fee, and yes I think they'd balk at reimbursing the fee for excessive use. I normally use it 2X - 3X monthly. Fidelity's Visa credit card now (been quite a few months) does NOT charge any uplift (used to be 3%) for foreign purchases. Same-same for BofA Visa Travel Rewards (no annual fee) and Chase Sapphire ($95 annual fee) Preferred. I'm not sure what the OP is asking about. Which bank, and what are those options?

Bank Of America, change of address
bamnutsak replied to renegade2000's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
You can change contact info on-line via the web or the BofA mobile app. You may need a security token (FIDO key for example), or be able to receive an SMS via a U.S. Mobile number. -
Transferring $20,000 USD
bamnutsak replied to HappyExpat57's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
One thing to consider re: cash, you need to make sure all 200 of the Benjamins are pristine (date, condition, etc.), as the best rate money changers here are quite particular. I think any tax implications would be equal, assuming you're going to deposit the exchanged THB into a local bank account. Personally, I would do a SWIFT wire transfer. For me, at BBL, that would net 721,500 now (Mon., 3/25/24 ~ 08:35). -
Some activities have moved this closer, but not over the finish line, to fruition. Many expect trump to present this option dramatically on Sunday evening. Trump social media company will go public as DWAC shareholders approve merger The potential windfall for Trump, while massive, could not be immediately realized, at least not under the deal’s current terms. Trump will be barred from selling shares in the merged company for at least six months, and there is no guarantee Trump Media shares will maintain the trading price level that DWAC did before the merger. It is possible that the board of directors could vote to allow Trump to sell shares earlier than that. And that board could be stocked with people close to Trump, including his son Donald Trump Jr., former wrestling company executive Linda McMahon and Trump’s former trade representative Robert Lighthizer, according to a list of planned nominees. If the board signed off on lifting the share lockup period, that could quickly free up a large source of cash for Trump, who is the presumptive Republican presidential nominee this year. https://www.cnbc.com/2024/03/22/trump-could-net-3-billion-from-dwac-social-media-merger-vote.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yf8kQGVWdps

Arson attacks by insurgents in three southernmost provinces

Or someone wants to derail them? The peace talks were making significant progress, the new Thai government put forth a civilian as chief negotiator. The situation has also no doubt been helped by the Thai government’s appointment of Chatchai as its lead negotiator; he is the first civilian to fill that role, which could help the government move beyond viewing the southern conflict through a narrow security lens. https://thediplomat.com/2024/02/thai-government-and-southern-separatists-agree-to-new-plan-to-end-conflict/ -

Arson attacks by insurgents in three southernmost provinces
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Southern Thailand News
Number of locations hit now up to 45...I'm wondering if 22 March was the anniversary of some heinous act? Just when it looked like peace talks were making progress. NNT- National News Bureau of Thailand 17m · Southern Thailand has been rocked by a series of coordinated attacks across 45 locations in the provinces of Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, and Songkhla. The attack began in the early hours of March 22, at 1:00 a.m., culminating in an arson attack at the Bacho Cooperative in Khok Khian subdistrict of Narathiwat province around 4:00 p.m. the same day. Authorities are currently conducting a thorough investigation into these attacks, believed to be the work of insurgent groups aiming to disrupt the peaceful observance of Ramadan. The violence also appears to be an attempt to destabilize the local economy and infrastructure, further undermining the authority of security services in these areas. Lt Gen Santi Sakuntanark, Commander of the Fourth Army Region, has called for an expedited and comprehensive inquiry into the incidents. His directives focus on identifying those responsible for the attacks and understanding their motives, with the goal of restoring peace and ensuring the safety of the public. The Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) Region 4 has also reached out to the community for assistance. The public is encouraged to report any information related to the incidents or any suspicious activity they encounter. To facilitate this, two hotlines have been established: the direct line to the Fourth Army Region Commander at 061-1732999 and the emergency number of the ISOC Region 4 Forward Command at 1341. -
"Big Joke" on leave from govt service to rest with family in UK
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Yes. Safe bet to say he will make yet another Lazarus-like rise. But it may take 30 - 60 days, according to the PM, to complete the "investigation". The spat between Hapkarn and Sukmivol got a bit out of control and boiled into the public space. Hence the cool-down period. And a more equitable revenue-sharing scheme, primarily from the massive shake-downs (100's of millions of baht) will solve some of the distrust issues among the RTP factions. The question remains what happens to Hapkarn's gang implicated in the Minnie gambling ring? All senior rank, two of whom are heads of Provincial Immigration offices. Does he have enough juice to keep them out of jail? -
Teenage Drug Trafficking Gang Busted in Chiang Rai (video)

Based on publicized interdictions Ketamine use seems to be on the rise. Not exactly good news for Thailand. Beyond methamphetamine, the region seized a record 27.4 tons of ketamine in 2022, an increase of 167 per cent, with all countries and territories in the region reporting an increase except Hong Kong, China. Notably, large mixed shipments of methamphetamine and ketamine were seized by authorities across the region, indicating organized crime continue to push the two drugs as a package to grow ketamine demand. https://www.unodc.org/roseap/2023/06/regional-synthetic-drugs-report-launch/story.html
