the one I visited had food/drink stalls next to the begging safes
Absolutely spot on, visit , say Kham Chanod, you will be hard pressed to find the temple, as the area has been taken over by stalls, lottery vendors, and idiots who try to tell you there is definitely a car space around the corner.

I don't believe a word of this and if you ever been in a crappy Thai village you will realise they all talk sh%t. Comparing Litrually anything they can think of like 9 year olds. Crappy issan villages not really a good example of Thailand at all IMO.
You should not give a single damn as regards the thoughts of village neighbors. They have too much time on their hands, and too little to do, bar swing on their hammocks.

Who do you think will cover the bill?
You think she realised she was in the wrong ? When did you know a bar girl admitting she is wrong ?
And yes you were wrong. You should have paid the bill but got your bar fine refunded
Only pay the bar fine immediately before leaving the bar .

Word of caution. It's 3 months before at Nong Khai.
I visited NK Immigration last week, ahead of my next renewal. They confirmed to me, verbally and in writing, I have the document here, that it is definitely 2 months and then 3 months. I put my 800,000 in 3 months ahead of time just in case.

Oh the love bling
Nong Khai Immigration appear to be bucking this military look trend. Last week all staff were wearing very natty yellow tee-shirts and black trousers. Only the young girl student assistants were in their school uniforms.

IIRC the state pension is not taxed provided it is below the personal tax allowance. If you have other pension(s) the HMRC will adjust the tax code on those, always ensuring that the state pension remains untaxed.
The proof of life form will be sent to your registered address and they would like a reply within 3 months from the date of posting.
If you get one with only a short life on it, contact the DWP quickly and they will acknowledge that you have received it and there should not be a problem as you will get an extension to complete it.
I also receive an RAF pension, so there will be a tax element, I was hoping to file my online tax return this month. I may just reflect the actual monies received + the Equiniti P60 figures.

It's been mentioned in several other posts,
Finders is NOT keepers in Thailand.
(Well not for farangs anyway)
It's called stealing.
And many Thai places delight in calling the police and prosecution.
Think about this... A true story.
A friend of mine was in big C, shopped and paid, went back in to get other stuff.
Security hauled him on the way out.
They called the police.
HE could not find the receipt.
All the stuff in big C bags..
He was not of good health, frail, and he finished up in the monkey house, 2 nights. Pending a court case.
Even that is corrupt and he said that people were smoking ice pipes, even having sex with inmates.
75 people in the nights he was there.
Many overstays doing one night for each 500 baht of overstay cost.
Big C pushed it. They always do I am told,
He offered to pay for the stuff again.
Even though he already had.
His Thai wife was not with him.
Court case, 10 times the value compensation.
Plus he was fined 10,000 baht.
A two months prison spell suspended for 2 years.
The police approached him to assist.
They have their own way to deal with these issues.
Work in teams,
Passport was not taken.
Immigration were not informed.
HE was told to cooperate...
His Thai wife was allowed to visit, even in the court.
They even gave her 1000 baht back for translation services.
50,000 baht cash. It cost him.
After the event the police even drove him home.
But two days and nights in chains and the Pattaya monkey house and court transportation in chains, were too much,
He has left Thailand...
Sadly it's a corrupt system and a way of life for many.
If Thai find money, lucky for them. Like win lottery.
If farangs find, it's not farangs money, so stealing.
Trouble...
I never, ever return to a store once I have received my goods. I will take my goods to my car before returning, if I have forgotten to buy an item.

I started receiving my Old Age Pension last October, The only correspondence I received was my initial invitation to claim letter. I am concerned that if they send me, via snail mail, a Proof of Life form, I am unlikely to receive it. Do they issue a "P60" or equivalent to show annual income for my income tax return?

Those rocket festivals can be quite dangerous ....
Yesterday a flatbed truck passed by carrying a rocket for a display in our village. I was amazed by its size. My wife wanted me to attend the festival, I declined her kind offer.

Nice to see a thread with common-sense advice and with helpful comments. Personally, I would not drive at night, these roads are a death trap, during the day with an early early start gives you more than enough time to complete this journey, it gives you the chance to see the road ahead and potential problems. I drive Pattaya - Nong Khai and always have an 0500-0600 start. Major road works en-route, as previously described. The advice on bypasses is good, avoid town centres where possible. The overpass/ underpass at Udon Thani is approaching completion, and traffic is moving well. If in NK, then a visit to Chiang Khan with an overnight stay is recommended, you will pass by the Skywalk, just past Sri Chiang Mai, again worth a visit.

The good Doctor says that he would prefer that the owner of the video uploads it to their personal Facebook account, then his staff will trawl Facebook. The question is, where will he find the staff in Thailand who have the necessary skills.

1am and the person was drunk as a skunk, unless the person had a seizure and went into convulsions. That takes the cake for stupid dangerous award of the month.
Being drunk is the more obvious answer, however, it may be a medical condition. Our next door neighbour, a middle aged male, has had 2 main road accidents in a year as a result of convulsions. He is currently awaiting his replacement vehicle. He will continue to drive.

Interesting the use of the phrase 'Police Protection Teams'.
Makes you wonder if it's to protect the monks from the public who might have caught on to the fact they've been gullible, and used in the past.
It is apparent to me that a decline in attendance has already started, as an aging population dies off, the new generation is less inclined to believe in the religious nonsense being spouted.

So you're assuming the Benz was owned by the monk, and he also arranged a conspicuous police escort? Interesting how people's minds can see things so differently. I'd assume that the Hi-SO homeowners arranged to have the monk picked up in such a manner to show their respect and gratitude.
Our area has a huge number of temples, of differing sizes and with different religious laws being applied. Never a week goes by without one of the temples hosting a "special event", attracting huge numbers of locals bearing gifts. I have seen the arrival of senior monks, in huge Mercedes Benzs complete with Police Protection teams. Something is wrongly amiss when this can be countenanced.

I was in our local Amphur office assisting the MIL with a new ID card, and the lady on the desk asked if I had a pink card yet, I said no, she said come back tomorrow with yellow book and passport and we will issue one. Did exactly that next day, no hassle whatsoever. Not had the occasion to use it as yet, as I generally flash my Thai driving license at checkpoints.

Try using www.hdpri.me which will take you straight to the login screen. Ive used this with a Chrome browser and its working fine.
I did this successfully at the weekend, however VOD is not working. Using Safari on my IPadPro everything is working fine.

Last week I drove extensively around our area, and noted that the police tents have again been erected at exactly the same spots as before. Locals know the locations of checkpoints and simply go down a soi before they are stopped. Some checkpoints are in dreadful locations, from a point of road safety and traffic flow.

There are probably 700 junior police officers standing behind these generals, pointing at the display.

TV - live football running perfectly
TV non-football, say Fox/Judge Judy etc - picture and sound out
of sync, rendering it unwatchable.
Watching via wireless internet to my laptop and hdmi to tv.
Today I will re-connect the hard wire, to see if that helps.
Also, will re-connect my STB, which I really do not like using.
