  1. Until the "Old Money" AKA Yellow Shits and the "New Money" AKA Red Shirts stop F@#$ing around like dogs fighting over a bone; Thailands' economy is going will continue to shrink. Thailand has good people who could govern but they don't want to be associated with politico/business scum that are calling the shots be it Thaksin who would sell his mother or Abhisit and his democrat followers who are totally inept.

    Amen

  2. I have some money in my UK bank account that I will be spending during my stay (about £2.5k).

What is the best way to bring or use this money into Thailand?

Should I change it all to bhat before I come?

Should I setup a Thai bank account then transfer it across?

I read that withdrawing money on my UK cash card at ATMs will incur quite a charge.

Would a pre-pay credit card be any use out in Thailand for making purchases and withdrawing cash or will they too incur a charge?

I will also be getting the odd payment from relatives etc, is it best they transfer the money into my UK bank account then I move it on from there or should they do a Western Union type thing?

    Any tips much appreciated.

    Thanks.

For 2.5k GBP, I would just bring it in in cash, and change it as you need it or change it all and open a Thai account with a Thai ATM card (if you can) dont know what visa you are here on..but read up on opening a Thai Bank Acc...on future transfers just get the relative to do a SWIFT transfer direct to Thai account

Dont change in the UK and bring THB, your rate will blow...change it in Thailand

    Travellers Cheques, NOT CASH

  3. I have one on my forearm. It is a souvenir of a drunken night in New Zealand from 45 years ago.

My wife like many Thai ladies has a scar on the calf of her leg from a motorcycle exhaust pipe. She considered getting a tattoo to cover it but changed her mind so she has none.

Gary: Thats' the famous Thai birth mark!! most ladies have that.

  4. Your luggage goes in the overhead basket (top bunk) or under the bunk (lower), make sure to book a bunk in the middle of the carriage so the uneven rail ties/shocks don't keep you awake. Take reading material, toilet tissue, water, sandwiches (unless you want to pay triple for crap food).

Take valuables into your bunk and curl up with them.

Do not accept food or drinks from anyone you do not know!!

    Have a good trip.

  5. Now Swine Flu

    before

JUST how many hits can the tourism industry of Thailand take? Will the anti-government protests in Bangkok in mid-April — which escalated into two days of rioting during the traditional Thai New Year and caused the cancellation of a summit meeting of Asian nations in Pattaya — keep away the visitors who have been gradually returning since the devastating tsunami of 2004?

And now Swine Flu, another nail in the coffin of Thai tourism. Someone in government has got to get very creative but judging from past performance that's not going to happen. Another case of "Mai Pen Rai"

  6. Gmail does this every afternoon (huge slowdown) here in HCMC; supposedly it's the Govt IT spies scanning for "The Bad People" maybe/perhaps Thailand is doing the same with simelar spyware.

Jeez, not again the spys who read billions of mail in a secret cave somewhere in Kanchanaburi...!

Gmal in Central BKK loads in less than 8 seconds on my 2 MB line.

You might consider your providers (maybe crappy) ADSL signal as well...

Not Kanchanaburi, it's Ho Chi Minh City and there's spies smarto in Vietnam.

I must admit I didn't realize the HCMC in your post. This was a human error... :o but as far as I was informed Vietnam is on the same Gmail link as Thailand.

And here Gmail is fast, at least on my site.

The Network Gurus on this forum will certainly give you some more in-depth info an that

Yep Gmail is fast here too until about 1500hrs to 1520 regular then back up to speed. Everyone knows this here, maybe same software there? Who knows?
