  1. OP

A school has no need for your passport or any reason for retaining the passport.

The school will provide paperwork which will support an application for an ED visa which must be made in a nearby country.

If more time is needed your current visa exempt entry can be extended by 30 days at an immigration office for 1900 B ht.

Would advise ignoring the rambling of the other.

  2. is it come they ask for all this stuff?

I thought with a valid visa, you don't need airfare proof.

can i simply say, i have not made plans yet, and when i do, i am likely traveling by bus? sad.png

A visa for any country, is simply an invitation to request admission to a country. It is the IO who determines if an individual meets the requirements for admission.

A visa does not confer a "right" of admission.

  3. if you have a visa, they should not ask about money and plane tickets...

who carries 20k baht when traveling? You're asking to be robbed/mugged..etc...

They, the Thai Immigration Officers can ask anything they like to determine if an individual meets the requirements for entry.

Thai IO'S have the same powers as do IO's of Western countries.

Refusing entry can only be done for specific reason. Not having an adequate amount of cash is one of those reasons.

  4. It has been reported on this forum and a couple others too that some provincial immigration offices no longer accept those income statements issued by embassies...cash in a Thai bank is all they'll accept. Would you be surprised to see more immigration offices adopting this? Would you be surprised if this became the regulation - show the required amount in a Thai bank account or no further extensions. Would you be surprised if the required amount deposited into a Thai bank account for a retirement extension was increased to THB 1mil - 1.5mil? Wouldn't surprise me, in fact I'm expecting it.

Not exactly correct, They still accept the income letter but are wanting to see a Thai bank book showing the funds coming in as a back up to it.

I don't anticipate any changes to the financial proof needed for extensions.

Joe, you say you don't anticipate any changes regarding financial proof, which is probably true. But there is a danger that immigration can enact subtle changes purely on interpretation that amount to a game changer. Do you anticipate any changes to the financial criterion ?

    Check ubojoe's response.

He quite clearly states he anticipates NO CHANGE to the financial requirements

  5. Will be applying for multiple entry, at Thai consular Queen's Gate, London UK.

My name is in the Father box on the birth certificate.

Sorry but a name on the birth certificate does not make you the legal farther.

Only by being married to the childs Mother or by securing legitimisation via the Thai court system can legal parental status be secured.

  6. No, but if they will deny you entry on the second entry. They will tell you before you leave to Myanmar, so you have time to sort it out.

If you have a ticket out of Thailand, it is a good idea to take it with you to show you don't intend to stay in Thailand for ever.

why would they deny your 2nd entry?

If someone is in possession a valid VISA it is extremely unlikely that entry would be denied.

There are very few reasons which would justify refusal, the main ones being a)suspicion of illegal working and b)Having sufficient money for day to day living.

Having a flight ticket out of Thailand and 20,000 Bht cash removes doubt.

  7. Hotel occupations are included in the 8 professional areas in which the AEC will initially allow mobility of skilled workers and I think this will include housekeeping, front office, food and beverage and kitchen work.

It's not free movement though because it will be open to those who hold qualifications under the ASEAN Mutual Recognition Agreement on Tourism Professionals, an attempt to introduce common competency standards On this, the training of the trainers is already well-advanced but I'm not sure when the first qualified members of the workforce are due to appear.

    Do not hold your breath!

Very few "hotel occupations" will qualify as "professional " or "skilled" under the the ASEAN agreements

You might be surprised - even bellboy is on the list.

    Thanks for the link.

I note the document speaks of "freedom of movement". There is no ASEAN agreement on FoM , border controls and the requirement for Visas/Work permits will remain intact.

Interesting times ahead and I hope that many will not be disappointed when they discover that ASEAN is not modeled on EU implementation of Fom which has removed border controls and the need for Visas etc for EU citizens moving freely from one country to the next in search of or to take up work.

  8. if the Mae Sai boarder are really closed for exemption what would be the best things and easy way, to do to get exemption visa ?

There are no "exemption visas" only visa exempt entries for those who qualify.

As the Mae Sai border IO's appear to be reluctant to deal with those wishing to exit the country and immediately return for a visa exempt entry the "easy and best" thing would be to attempt entry at any one of the many other land borders/airports

  10. IMA_FARANG

You say this which is both incorrect and misleading........

"The exit re-entry permit during the 2nd year allows you to keep your current O-A visa valid "

If a person is in their second year of stay the O/A visa , which has a validity of 12 months from the date of issue, would have expired.

A re entry permit protects a "permission to stay date" it does not resurrect an expired visa!

  11. he used 'off the shelf lens.

You could have got the same in KSK for around 200bht.

All lenses are "off the shelf"! They are then cut/ground to fit the frame.

It would be only on very rare occasions that a prescription was so complex that lenses had to be individually manufactured.

In terms of performance one should always seek to purchase the "best" lens that an individuals budget permits.

A cheap pair of lens will never be of the same quality as Brand name products

  12. I don't doubt, nothing is illegal once granted. Which makes the difference between regulations as we can understand, and as certain immigration officers understand, and have the power to deny or grant.

Here again for you below the official regulations. Still awaiting your explanation about under which clause an housekeeper can apply.

Now try checking the rules and regulations for citizens of nearby countries.. That should keep you busy and quiet for a few days,

  13. Is there any way that a non-Thai not employed in Thailand (i.e. expat on extension of stay for retirement ) can obtain a work permit to hire a foreign national as domestic help? Can't seem to find anything on that. In reality high percentage of maids etc are Burmese or Khmer. Is there any way to make it legal, for an ordinary householder (not a company)? And one who is themselves a foreigner?

There is no way except perhaps workers for diplomats.

Regulations are crafted in such way to protect hiring of Thai domestic worker, so that foreigners as illegal and vulnerable.

    Wrong !

My Chinese / Thai neighbor has a Laos lady childminder/housekeeper who is 100% legal and who has no problem renewing her permission to stay.

  14. He is 14 at the moment .Our Concern is the implications of his Grandfather trying to remove him from the Ta bien Baan .he is actually registered as his son .because the father disappeared soon after birth

    Check post number 2.

As I said when the boy is older he can, if he wishes renounce his Thai citizenship.

Nothing is gained by removing the boy from the house book if indeed that can be done.

  15. I have not tried this stuff and have no intention of ever doing so.

It is a "medication" favoured by some alternative medicine people and is alleged to be an anti inflammatory agent .

It should be avoided and has no relevence to the prevention or treatment of heart disease.

AFAIK this "medication" plays no part in the practice of main stream medicine .
