  1. Doesnt say much for Thai hygiene does it. Haven’t they learnt anything in the last 20:plus years. A French man I knew in Phuket had a restaurant. He used to tell me horror stories about his staff. He said you can teach them all you can, but it goes in one ear and out the other. In front of you they do as you say, turn your back and its back to usual. He closed down after a while, his food was fantastic. Who hasn’t seen the up front sushi stalls in Malls, everyone poking them and breathing on them, makes me want to throw up just looking. Or often a stir fry comes with the meat still red in the middle ugh. I often end up eating vegetarian in the one on the left after Tuc Com.Super tasty food and everything in the kitchen shines , spotless . Works well.
  2. Call police straight away and get a good description .could help stop some other poor person getting robbed.
  3. Thailand has achieved, of its own making, a terrible reputation throughout the world. If the police don’t act , lock them up a few days , fine them , then it won’t go away. Stop the motor bike crazies, drunk drivers and people who think they can make porn movies on a pavement in broad daylight ( pattaya last month). Thailand wasn’t like that before. It’s become a swamp of the lowest of the low.
  4. Just make a list of all the awful things that have happened in mostly Phuket and Pattaya in the last week !!!! It’s becoming unbelievably crazy or dangerous or frightening. I never thought I’d see Thailand like this. It often felt a little on the boring side years back apart from a murder or 2 and some bad traffic accidents. I can remember discussing 2 different murders on Phuket for months and years on end.
  5. Air cargo I can believe. Passenger no. Profits where ?
  6. No, I have all my cases bought from Pacsafe. Doubled in wire meshing. A bit heavier than a normal suitcase or bag of course. Or… time for the bumbag to come back in fashion, seen quite a few nice ones lately. I never leave money/ documents/ jewelry / cards out of my sight.
  7. This is an absolutely horrific thing to happen to a human being. Sounds like it was premeditated seeing as he had the objects needed to do whatever evil thing he did. It doesn’t bear thinking about. RIP. .
  8. My best friends , 3, are exs . Never had a problem over nearly 50 years.
  9. No, it was not like this 10 years ago. Every day is a catastrophe.
  10. But he’s been here for 15 years. I know many of you have been and longer, Would anyone have known then that their pensions would be frozen later on ? Thailand was cheaper to live in too 15 yrs ago, so it must have looked attractive over the UK or many other colder countries. I find it’s disgusting, you pay in alll your working life to get what ? I’m glad I don’t live in the UK, left in 1969, and I’m so glad .
  11. I doubt that European families will be traveling far these days. More like staying near home. There’s trouble everywhere thanks to Covid, Trump, the war against Ukraine, emptying the pockets of all governments. Where I live France the hotels are already booked full for the season. Same with Greece, Turkey, Italy , Portugal and Spain. Cheap flights get you everywhere for cheap these days. Or you can drive / train.
  12. In the meantime, I haven’t read much news on the the 60 declared dead in Bangkok ?? Are they already forgotten, just Birmans ???
  13. Even Bristol airport 2 weeks ago. Much faster.
  14. Quite sure that the disapproval votes are going to rise and rise.Trump is on a wild ego trip , just like his buddy Putin and Netanyahu, and Vance is just as bad. America is sadly in a very bad place.
  15. Yes, the Russians have been working in Phuket for donkeys ears . They were already there in Kata when I left in 2005 to go to Hua Hin. They’ve got their own circle of workers, taxis , restaurants, everything mentioned by CANSIAM above. One day tried a new massage shop. The girl could speak English, I noticed that she was probably living there seeing her stuff in the back . I asked if the shop was hers, and she said no, it belonged to a Russian. I was amazed, didn’t know that they were branching out to foreign customers. They usually stick to their own. I went back to see friends after Covid, and when Putin attacked Ukraine. The rouble had crashed . There was ( is?) a Russian restaurant on the main rd, opp the old Kata beach resort / taxi rank. It was packed to the rafters every night I walked by, even had queues waiting outside. Just shows how many Russians are in small Kata beach. My Thai friend told me that they had bought up all the cheap new built condos around, and also had built villas/ houses illegally, land that was not to be built on. Well, three years later ( a few months ago August 24, , it was on AN news) the mountain up to Big Bouddha had collapsed and taken a lot of properties with it , down to the main road. 20 years back the locals tried to burn down the front awnings and signs of Russian shops. I think they’ve just given up.
  16. I have seen a similar argument about a hotel holding credit . It was explained nicely to the gentleman, but he replied that he had waited a few weeks before being re credited at a previous stay. Some people don’t understand the system.
  17. IF. One of my favorite Kipling, and true words .
  18. I have a house in France and 22c and that’s where I’m staying till November. we get 30c + and that’s all I can take.
  19. I’m waiting for the day when Americans wake up and stand up against him.
  20. With his fathers money, I’m quite sure he is surrounded by compétant lawyers on which countries he can safely go to and all the necessary care taken to make sure he’s not in danger of being nabbed by Thailand. Apart from one photo of him outside a London house, he seems to be very discreet. I’m amazed that no journalist has ever found him, they’re usually very good at finding people when they don’t want to be found. Has anyone seen news of him ?
  21. I would love to spend my retirement all year round in Thailand. As it is , I am spending less time each year. Due to worrying about * what if ?* I have arthritis, and take meds for high tension,Statins , as preventive medicine. I am 72 , do aqua gym, swim, walk an hour a day , eat healthy food, very little alcohol and don’t smoke. I’m fit. But I worry that if I became really ill, hospital bills would be very high. I was planning a Thai senior home , as my uncle is going down this route. As it is, in my hometown in France I have fantastic health care , I can afford even private on top if I wanted. It’s all very well saying that there are good health insurers for expats, but do they assure pre existing illnesses, and at what cost ? I believe this is the main subject why many pensioners , and younger, give up the idea of moving away from their home.,
  22. Must be an American ! Only having a laugh.
  23. Go to Friendship , upstairs they sell bags in different sizes. They’re meant for the small shop owners I suppose and you can buy a packet or more as you need them very cheap. I put my bananas in paper bags and hang them from my kitchen door . Keeps them great and no flies.
