  1. I stayed in Phuket for 20 years , albeit 5 EU winter months, and 2 years Hua Hin. I much prefer Pattaya, although the beach water is dirty. I swim in the pool. You don’t have the sex workers unless you go looking for it. Don’t take the kids out to certain soi’s , and avoid the center town promenade i. Plenty other places to walk if you wish. Then you have Central Festival , Terminal 21, big supermarkets, good restaurants. Traffic you have anywhere in Thai cities, Phuket is worse, and Hua Hin on a weekend too. Chiang Mai pollution is famous, Hua Hin boring, and Phuket highly overrated and packed to the rafters. A nice house in a quiet area of Pattaya , plenty suggestions above. Question, where would your wife work, area , can she drive ?
  2. No, she’s to serve 3 years MINUS the 92 days already served.
  3. You read wrong. Its 5000 B for everyone. No discrimination.
  4. Those weight loss injections are all the rage now in EU. You can even get them free by your doctor if you are over a certain weight. They are certified ok to use and apparently easy to inject. Then there’s hair loss injections of the B vitamins, I’ve had those. They work but have to be taken seriously over a few months. The women who have those lip filler injections, fillers, Botox, etc. Mostly done in someone’s living room. That is illegal. Has to be done by certified doctors.
  5. Exactly, everyone needs a balanced diet, cereals , died prunes , fresh fruit after a meal as it has a lot of sugar, cut out the rice, lots of veg with the lunch ,´eat fibre foods ( brown rice, ) drink 2 L’water a day, cut out the fat, sugar and salt.
  6. So the police chiefs should make a public announcement stating that from this day on helmets must be worn by all , including children and tourists . Fine 2000baht payable at station , or /and confiscation of bike. This will save some terrible injuries as we see every day on Thai roads. Just common sense. Just think of how many foreigners have accidents every day.
  7. I did say under the current law for exempt 60 days. As for taxation, I think anyone thinking of coming to Thailand to live / retire , should be aware of the 180 day rule. It doesn’t suit everyone and as far as I’ve seen there is much hanging in the air .
  8. I’ve been doing this for years ( since they canceled double entry visas) but I always stay under 6 months , as I don’t want to be a tax resident in Thailand. ( over 180 days you are classed as a tax resident ). Also I do not want to loose the advantages I have in my home country , excellent free health care . So for 5 months, I come in under Visa exempt 60 days , ( under the current law ) I extend this at my local immigration office , easy to do ,30 days , for 1900 baht. Then I do a border hop, sometimes I go to Penang , sometimes Cambodia or even further. Stay there a week on a nice break, then fly back to Thailand and do it all again,60 days Visa exempt and when I need it an extension 30 days at Immigration. ive never encountered a problem .I think they are fine when you do not abuse this system or do overstay. If you don’t know Thailand , I do advise staying a while before making up your mind to jump in eyes closed. years back my plan was to retire here, but now I am glad I didnt. For visas look at the Thai embassy we line of Holland.
  9. What a stupid comment. A 14 yr old stabbed to death a teacher ( not his) for a small telling off by another teacher for snogging his girlfriend in the hall. Apparently the boy has an aversion to any type of authority. .So I don’t know what your point is. You think you should let kids run loose and do what they want ? Corporal punishment is forbidden in the UK and most countries. But kids need to be controlled in a proper way.
  10. Only the National newspapers can help here. Front page Headlines and popular news channels. Do they dare though ?
  11. Something’s got to stop all this nonsense . Local authorities are supposed to be responsible for their towns. Thailand is attracting all the scum of the earth. It has such a rotten reputation now abroad for such behavior, and this is why the scum are flocking in .I don’t know if Thailands reputation n can be repaired , but they could give it a try. More police, lock up the worse, accompanied to the airport the others , and make it known through the newspapers and media . Thailands gone down the drain, makes me sick.
  12. Who mentioned tourists ? On the other hand there is also a huge rise in tourist crime , the bad reputation that Thailand has abroad is attracting the worst type of tourists. Its not the long time expats that are creating hell here, the new ones seem to be here for the drug scene and bitcoin scams.
  13. Thailand has gone to the dogs since legalization of whatever they are selling on the counter and under ! In all my years , I have never seen so much crime, fights, violence, deaths , drunks and drugged fools wandering the streets. It is hurting Thailand and Thai people , families, who are falling into this trap, not only the stupid “ tourists” that should know better. I say good luck to anyone trying to stop this craziness , but I certainly do not condone killing them. Just lock them all up, build prisons.
  14. Obviously you didn’t read the post. 175 billion was the economic budget.,
  15. What’s a safe entry? Agent ?
  16. I have a Hua Wei about 5/6 years, and it does everything I need .and also has a good ish camera .i don’t do banking on it. What would be the best camera that does not cost a fortune , is easy to use , and a great camera , thanks. I gave up on apple before that and would never buy one again. I do have an iPad mini tho.
  17. I’m sure it doesn’t include little children, not that I condone any corporal punishment at all.
  18. I wonder what the law is concerning child abuse/ violence in Thailand ? Does it exist ? I believe each classroom should have CCTV ( that functions) , it would prove the abuse of children, and help when kids have been misbehaving badly. This teacher should be banned from teaching and also have a jail sentence.
  19. The day when they stop the road massacre, and have proper road crossings that work , then I will believe it. Safety ? What are they doing about the violence caused mainly by foreign men who believe Thailand is the country with no laws. Not a day goes by without violence, not only Pattaya, Phuket is just as bad. It’s just bad news for *normal* tourists who will go elsewhere.
  20. This is why I only book at hotels I know and trust, or if I don’t know them, they belong to a decent chain of hotels. Yes, not exciting, but I know what I’ll get and a correct price.
  21. I was just thinking about that . The hotel in chiang Mai, and then I think also Koh Samui ? The rooms and mattresses had been sprayed with toxic bug killer. Made headlines in the UK and Thailand. A few ladies died. As it was widely published, I think it frightened a lot of hoteliers and they stopped using these deadly chemicals. Hopefully for good. Terrible death. Otherwise, ladies are generally safe in Thailand. I would advise only using hotel taxis , or don’t use alone. Also , not getting drunk or high , also avoiding lonely places like waterfalls . Thai men don’t usually bother with foreign girls, they feel overshadowed by them. ( this repeated to me from some Thai men friends ).
  22. Have a look at Richard Barrow who is THE train expert in Thailand. He’s been the expert for many years now , and anyone wanting to a train trip goes first to him for the best advice. He always take the inaugural trip of all new destinations so you know first hand what you’re going to get. Personally , I love a good train trip and have been on many following Richard’s advice. He has a huge following on FB if anyone is interested.
  23. Happened to me many times. I’m sitting there alone, order a steamed fish and the waitress asks “ one?”
  24. Lesson is, never buy a condo in areas prone to earthquakes, and floods.
