  1. Does this « insurance for tourists « really exist ? I’ve never heard of it ? Is it for all tourists, even Visa exempt , and what does it cover ? Why assume a tourist travel insurance is only for motorbike accidents when you can fall down a hole in the pavement, have appendicitis or a heart attack.or get run over by a drunk Thai .
  2. Does the 60 day Visa exempt help?? Also, I think most flights from Europe tend to arrive around midday ?
  3. What about those who do border hops with the Pattaya agencies ? ( I’ve never done that ) Can they come in on a turnaround like before and get their 60 days Visa Exempt or not ?? Will it depend on the immigration officer who stamps you in ? Myself, I would probably do just the three months allowed ( 60 days + 1 extension ) instead of the 5 months I usually do. I wouldn’t fancy being locked out for some reason or other and all my belongings in my rental condo.
  4. Years back I asked my favorite restaurant in Jomtien how they manage their tips. The waitress said it all went into one pot and shared out between them at the end of the week. That’s fair, and I always leave a tip even if I go 5 times a week. They work hard, usually on the legal minimum age, if it’s clean and I get a smile , the food is good, I’m happy.
  5. The world over there are fat, thin and normal ! From what I’ve seen, Americans are the fatter. My UK family are all normal sized, and my group of girl friends and their husbands are all normal healthy too, I must say they all look marvelous , smart and take pride in their ways/ dress. 40 yrs ago Thai girls were tiny, but they lived a different life. The bar girls you usually meet probably don’t care much about how they look and I understand that. Being overweight is often a class thing.
  6. Which is why it is very important to look after your health ! Could save a lot of money in the future. As for money problems, lots of pensioners have them sooner or later. All the world over.. Never too late to plan ahead.
  7. My good friend just died in a Cambodian hospital from an AVC ( we think). He died alone. His son found out a good few days later so too late to do anything. I’m not sure how they contacted him although he’d lived quite a few years there. A year or two ago, a young lady was walking on lonely beach and fell down dead. I think I read about it on Asean. It took them a long time to find out who she was etc. So a dog tag thing could be a good option. But, question, what if a foreigner is in ICU and has no ID ?? would they treat him or what ? He/she could be on holiday and staying elsewhere , for example a day trip from bangkok.
  8. I stayed in Hua Hin two winter seasons through but in a nice condo. I often ate at the All In cafe /shop which was great. Wondering if it was still there. There was another very well known restaurant ( famous cook) on the other side of the railway track, fantastic.
  9. Why not just oblige tourists to have their own travel insurance ?? At least the tourist would have a chance of having a compétant cover.
  10. Yes, but as in most western countries you get social security and a mostly livable retirement pension, most Thais only get peanuts. I think one can compare Thailand to Africa.
  11. Please give me a few examples of retirement payment , Farm Worker, shop girl/ sales assistant, construction worker, bank or office worker . Thank you. Do the poor old age living on the streets get anything ?
  12. I think I paid around 1000 baht +. You can also have a buggy for extra baht. For me it was great, carried my hand luggage straight from debarking to immigration to baggage belt. I usually have a heavy bag or two. I don’t know if it was official or not, but the IOs were official and booked online with receipt etc. Done this for years.
  13. For safety I prefer the Bell service. Pick up from home , comfy bus to Bangkok and their onward drop off to your hotel. For convenience I take a good taxi from home. I have my choices and always ask for lady drivers.
  14. When I see and hear the Trump supporters, I feel frightened of what will happen if he wins. All Europe is worried. These are difficult times not to be messed with.
  15. Shame they haven’t got Guy Fawkes day in the US.
  16. They are official IOs at the fast track line who stamp in old age passengers , crew and business and 1st class travelers., i don’t know if the online version is still working as I am now over 70 and can use freely. The online version ( Bangkok limousine service) was better as it met you as you come out of the plane, help carry your bad, walk you through the fast track line, then onto the baggage belt. If you ordered a limo ( extra cost) they would accompany me to the car and carry my bags.
  17. No, in the past in Phuket but mostly BKK I’ve taken fast track options dozens of times. I’d apply online to the company, they meet you as you leave the plane, walk you through passport check which is a separate lane closed off from the huge queues, and used by airport staff , crew, and the over 70s. Then they take you to the baggage belt. Extra option is a buggy, or/ and a airport limo. I don’t know if this still exists as I’m now over 70 and can use that lane freely.
  18. Never take the cheap vans anywhere. Taxi is easiest . About 2000 VIP is what it says, VIP , not a 50 yr old school bus. Under 400 for 1 person. Up to you and your wallet.
  19. Unfortunately, he will not know the impact until the runway is finished and planes start taking off and landing. ( max noise level).
  20. Stories like this come to light when floods happen , as in France at the moment or UK at a families property . Even in these countries where lawyers actually do their work, disasters happen. Climate change. In France people living near rivers , the sea, are currently suffering from storms that that have never happened before . In the UK my niece nearly lost her housé because an old mine flooded a few miles up a hill and flooded the the whole town . Getting the Coal Board to pay up took over 2 years . Before buying you have to be so careful , check surroundings etc. Neighbors ( especially in Thailand and karaoke nights) . Talk to the neighbors too. I think in Thailand you have to do it all yourself.
  21. Definitely, since a long time now. As for tour shops , plenty in Pattaya and Jomtien on the corner around the night market. Guess what nationalities they are . Been there for years.
  22. If you are here asking what you can/ should do, then it must be a bad situation. All of us have experienced some sort of bad situations in our lives. You must choose what is best for you. Have you communicated seriously ? Explain quietly your life together cannot continue like this. If she gets hysterical or crazy or upset, leave it. Go out, tell her you’ll talk again in a few days . If after trying a few times it doesn’t work, then leave. You don’t want to be unhappy for ever. Give her enough money to get by for a few months, pack your bags and go somewhere else. Change location. You’re young enough.
  23. Because it looks like he’s bought the gun at 7/11 .
  24. 4/5 months is the maximum for me. Then I get really bored.
  25. I thinks it’s about having a cuppa in work, or a loo break maybe.
