  1. Yes, they will probably ask him for advice as he has great knowledge in Telecommunications.
  2. Loved the Fantasy Bar! Great staff, good cocktails, and the statues around the bar were Fantastic. Those glass shelves and the hundreds of different alcohols, amazing. Was sad when it closed, I often wonder why it wasn’t taken over as it did good trade.
  3. In my infants school we were taught all the popular Aussie songs for some reason ( UK)
  4. I called it the whoop whooping bird, bloody annoying. I be seen one or two( I think) very dark reddish color.
  5. Having had a very good travel insurance for years ( never claimed) , and a totally unforeseen illness which was covered by this insurance, I can promise you that most will find every way possible to delay or not pay out . Luckily I had the money but it’s taking ages to get reimbursed, although they have sent an acceptance letter. Reading the reviews of this big company a huge amount of customers were very disappointed/ angry at the rip offs, because that’s what most are, rip offs.
  6. I don’t live in Bangkok but often visit for a long weekend and Christmas and New year week. I’ve had problems while in Phuket , but not Bangkok, only once over charged at the airport. I use taxis often from my hotel, and they’re always meter taxis , working. Evenings too when I go out for a meal , and I’ll arrange a pick up, or one called by the restaurant staff. Am I lucky, don’t know. Bangkok Pattaya taxis I reserve asking for good driver, not using phone while driving, and I’ll tip ok when I’m happy . They work hard, I appreciate it.
  7. The truth is, expats, travelers, always complain about the country they’ve chosen to live, and most forget about the advantages and good points of their own birth country. From scam artists, builders, governments, expensive health care, taxis , even the costs at a gogo, there they go again, complaining!
  8. I spent 2 months in Phuket after Covid to see my good friends after having lived there from early 80s for a bit more than 20 yrs. Loved it at the time , the 80s and 90s were fantastic, and Phuket wasn’t crowded and never saw a traffic jam. It was my little paradise in Kata , everyone friends. So Had the shock of my life when I went back , I couldn’t believe the traffic, the noise from a million motorcycles, the still pot holed roads and lack of pavements, stressed out Thai businesses, Thai smile long disappeared. And no wonder with the place being overrun by surly rude Russians, buildings , all the gorgeous hillsides turned into pool Villa ghettos. I was happy to leave again and I will go back to see my old friends but will stay a week.
  9. I think you’ll need to see a solicitor specializing in such area to make sure your partner is comfortable after your death. But be careful of protecting yourself too.
  10. They normally put them through the machine, but in their job you know a fake euro if you look properly, there’s always something.
  11. Quite common in lots of African countries and in the Arab and all Muslim countries , parents marry off their 12/14 years olds to old men .
  12. This happened to me once in Pattaya years back. I took my tickets, passport , photo , the condo address etc to immigration in Jomtien and declared myself, had no problem. Don’t know if I was just lucky I think they’re probably used to owners not wanting to declare.
  13. With this happening a bit too often, I rather think they should have a hefty steward standing next to the doors who would be able to hold off an attack such as this. I myself had an awful experience on a Lufthansa flight about 12 yrs back when a drunk nasty character created havoc after take off ! After 10 minutes of terror he was handcuffed to the back of his seat and his seat neighbor and myself were moved to the pilots rest area due to a very full flight. Needless to say he was arrested on arrival . Frightening .
  14. I was in Bali last April. It was awful ! A beautiful island with beautiful people once, now ruined. The abuse of land/ buildings etc is horrendous. The one big supermarket overrun with pushy Russian ladies and their Balinese staff. Nearly every Russian family I saw there had a Balinese nanny night and day. In one five star hotel there were numerous long stay families with their Balinese staff. They’re not all draft dodgers, a lot are very rich Russians planning a new future and getaway in countries that still accept them. Same is happening in Thailand. Once your kids are in school you’re Visa happy , no matter what your age, which is why we’re seeing more younger families than before.
  15. If the roads of fashion were flooded with counterfeit goods, ( some very well copied) the people who do buy expensive bags/ watches/ Chanel / Dior etc would not like it and the market would sink. Imagine buying a popular 5000€ bag and you walk into a restaurant and every girls got the same ?? That’s what fashion is all about, imagine having dozens of Lamborghinis flooding the streets , sales would immediately stop. The fashion industry in France , Italy, US, Uk generates millions of specialist jobs, and a lot of money ,that’s the difference, quality instead of quantity, hard work and craftsmanship goes into these products. The rubbish that pours out of mostly China, India, some African countries is factory made and often uses child labor and people who earn a pittance. And the badly / mass made products end up in the bin after 6 months and eventually landfill. Remember the shoe scandal of the people that bought shoes who ended up having burnt feet from illegal chemicals ?
  16. I’m wondering if this article got national coverage in the big newspapers ?? These days, anyone , especially in a high position, would be stoned and shamed in any western country , front page news and TV. Why is this not so in Thailand ?
  17. True, where I spend my summer months in a S of France beach resort, we often wonder about the age of girls off for a night out in the discos. I swear lots of 16 yr olds look over 18. That is what they are aiming for to get into the clubs. Ive never heard of British in Britain being known for abusing underage girls, except in some areas where there are groups of men who are born and raised but UK not the country of their ethnicity. I don’t live in UK but follow news daily. Of course, Thailand is known all over the world for cheap sex, Patpong, Bangla and Pattaya Soi 6 being plastered over the internet . You reap what you sow.
  18. I think travel insurance laws need to be completely reviewed. Most are very confusing, illegible, and the cause of much heartache. What they insure and what they do not should be in large print under the Title of the said insurance. Exclusions in large red print. Lots of companies contracts are worded in a way to attract as many people as possible but with no guarantees in the case of an eventual illness/ accident.
  19. On Phuket , the Russians have been doing this “ sub letting” for quite a while now. It’s become unbearable, wherever you go, rude, hostile people in the shops and restaurants . They also have many “ jobs” apart from the villas/ condos, driving their kind back and fore the airport, shops etc. Travel agencies, massage and probably a hefty online business going not to mention bitcoin where one such Russian was running things in Kata. It is the downfall of Phuket and tourists won’t forget their last holidays there.,
  20. And have some photos to prove it, and tell the lawyer you will print them.
  21. If there were set rules as to how many entries ( air) a person can have, then people will act accordingly. Imagine US / German/ Uk/ Aust etc having a rule that basically says, “ No exact limit on Air Entries it’s up to your immigration officer to decide “ !! Ridiculous ! All my many long winters in Thailand and I’ve never had a problem. Tho I’m sure we’ve all seen a grumpy or downright nasty IO. Those who abuse the system to work is another thing , and it’s illegal!!
  22. Exactly, at one time in my life I was under 50, had a very good job in EU that allowed me to travel over long periods ( seasonal). There was no other option for me to stay without extensions or border hops, and there are still not today. Also, for those over 50 , not everyone wants a retirement visa if they are still working /have business in another country. Lots here seem to think that some are working illegally when they are not. And as said , there is no legal limit to entries by air. So if there were a limit, like with land entries, this would not be a problem.
  23. I think the station is the entrance to Hua Hin, and should be given a lot of good thought. It’s a beautiful station, what they do not need to do is pile a load of thai kitch to spoil it all. Everyone has their photo next to the Hua Hin sign inside. Keep,it smart. If needed , a pretty coffee / tea shop with some authentic cakes/ biscuits/ tarts , which could also sell a few tasteful momentos . I’d rather see that just outside the entrance and nicely done, maybe olde worldly , as is the original station. The problem with Thai ideas is that they copy everything and everywhere. It would be useful in showing foreigners and Thais ( who wouldn’t go inside otherwise) , people arriving and departing. No “ I love Hua Hin” t shirts please.,
  24. Could be Koh Chang or the islands around. I spend a lot of getaways there and have loads of similar photos. Definitely not Jomtien.
