  1. Nasi Jumpru has good food, but it's a bit too far to get take away for us.
  2. The salmon you ate doesn't come from Japan, I guess.
  3. I am not working in Thailand. The RD instructed my accountant how to fill out the special forms which they provided. You might look at the Treaty to see how Social Security is handled. The technical explanation is an easier read.
  4. The rule concerning remitted income (not savings) has been in effect for many years, and I have been filing for that reason.
  5. The Thai-US tax treaty does not contain the re-sourcing provisions of US treaties with many other countries, so it is not possible to make remittances to Thailand appear as foreign income when preparing Form 1116 on the US tax return. The result is that the only option is to get a tax credit on the Thai tax return for taxes paid to the US. The result may be that tax due Thailand will be zero.
  6. Maybe Immigration will need a bed photo to determine whether the Thai is on top, in which case no 400K will be required.
  7. The point is that if there is a joint income, then the Thai tax dept might interpret a transfer to spouse from abroad as part of the joint income. Better to check with a tax expert.
  8. IT means inheritance tax, I guess. It depends on which is your home country. The exemption in the US for now is $11mn (lifetime and at death). I believe that Thailand has a large exemption as well (Baht20mn per year), and the rate above that is 5%. So presumably one can wire the gift to the spouse's account in Thailand, but if only joint tax returns are permitted, wouldn't that still be a problem?
  9. For male couples, having their own children would involve surrogacy. Isn't that prohibited here?
  10. Duplicate post deleted
  11. I seem to remember that a usufruct is more stable if the owner and the holder of the usufruct are not married.
  12. Last year I filed US taxes in mid-February so that i could use the DTA to pay no taxes on the return I filed in Thaiiand on 31 March. Since then there has been no inquiry from the Thai RD requesting a transcript issued by the IRS (US tax department).
  13. So in Sweden, does it matter if the couple is married? As long as the father is named on the birth certificate, that would give him all the cards, as long as the child is not kidnapped/taken to Thailand.
  14. I agree with you up to "IMO". Since the Ukraine war, China and Russia are working together to defeat international sanctions. Their fake islands in the South China Sea are quite useful in enforcing a blockade around Taiwan. It is Taiwan that is vulnerable to a lack of food and energy imports. To sanction Chinese exports would disrupt the world economy because China has acquired near monopolies in critical resources, some basic electronics, etc.
  15. People in the Middle East really date the decline of America's credibility to Obama's red line in Syria (2013) concerning what would happen if chemical weapons were used again. When it happened, Obama did nothing. The next year, Putin took over Crimea, etc. Obama did not much.
  16. Traditionally, in Japan people only ate cooked salmon, since salmon can acquire parasites in Japanese rivers.
  17. Back in 1967 they were fleeing, along with the Jordanian Army!
  18. Arab countries do not want to have any part in displacement of the Palestinian people with no right of return, which would be the case if Israel controls the border with Egypt (as Netanyahu is now insisting in "ceasefire" negotiations).
  19. I like the smoked duck (whole or half) from Tulou. It's an appetizer for 2-4 people.
  20. L'Elephant is quite good for French food, also Baan Mae, Busarin Cuisine, Ginger Farm Kitchen, and Wan Lamun for Thai food, Sushi Umai Nimman for Japanese, Accha for Indian, Blackitch Kitchen (fixed menu) for fusion Thai, Yangzi Jiang and Guo Se Tian Xiang (spicy) for Chinese, Greensmoked for contemporary Western food.
  21. Many similar products are imported by middlemen here for resale, so may be more expensive than the direct sales through Temu. On the other hand, if there is a serious problem, like your house burned down, then the importer could be theoretically responsible.
  22. The choice of Fox News would lead to questions tailored to Trump's diatribes. His lies need real time fact checking (as I proposed in an earlier response).
  23. Negotiate, yes. Dictate, no. If biased Fox News were the venu, there should be two meter at the bottom of the screen, not controlled by Fox News, but by a reputable centrist media monitor. One meter is the truth meter, the other one regards the questions, whether they are bona fide or biased.
  24. Before I had ELectrolux, washer and dryer. Now I have a Hitachi front loader and a Siemens dryer, both purchased 10 years ago. They are both much better than the Electrolux, but of course technology had advanced since I bought Electrolux so long ago that I can't remember when.
