  1. The ICJ a/k/a World Court says that the 1967 borders delineate the borders of Israel (and that the settlers must be evacuated ASAP), so the land question is decided. Under legal definitions and examination of the circumstances, qualified observers have remarked on Israel's effective control of all Gaza's borders, plus sea access, and so some have likened Gaza to a prison.
  2. The whole WSJ opinion piece is propaganda, not meant to be factual news. So Netanyahu says that the ICC decision is absurd. Do you expect him to speak truthfully (except when he spoke at the beginning of the war advocating war crimes)?
  3. The beheadings of babies were debunked a long tome ago. Rapes if any were from a lack of discipline, not an intended weapon of war. What is contemptible is the US vetoes against the 14 other members of the Security Council who want a ceasefire and aid distribution.
  4. I looked the "report" on the WSJ website. It is not news, but actually an opinion piece by the Editorial Board. Anyone who reads the WSJ knows that with regard to Israel, the Editorial Board follows the Netanyahu propaganda line. More reliable than the WSJ Editorial Board is the ICJ, which stated in February that there is a risk that Israel is committing genocide, and it is examining the evidence to eventually render a judgment, but that may take years. In the meantime the ICC has issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu & Gallant for war crimes, but whether the charge of genocide is added later is another question.
  5. Advice is a good dealer. M185 is good, but it seems to require a USB receiver. This mouse is no longer listed on the Logitech site. It depends on whether you are doing something specialized such as Excel or gaming, or not. If not, Logitech MX Anywhere 3S uses Bluetooth without a USB receiver. Does your laptop have up to date Bluetooth capability? Does the laptop work on Windows 10/11 or Apple OS 10.5 or later? Other mouse models have extra buttons that usually can be set for specific programs. Be careful when you buy to avoid mice that require USB receivers.
  6. Yes, and Jay Bhattacharya was appointed to head NIH (National Institutes of Health) , the principal government agency that conducts and supports medical research. He is one of the three initiators of the Great Barrington Declaration, which was supported by DeSantis in a 1h45 event in the state capitol in March 2021. This group was backed by a libertarian think tank in Great Barrington, MA. It gave an academic, quasi-scientific mask for the anti-vax view: https://thefloridachannel.org/videos/3-18-21-roundtable-discussion-on-public-health/ https://www.news4jax.com/news/local/2021/03/18/fact-checking-claims-made-by-experts-brought-in-by-desantis-analyze-his-covid-response/ https://www.queensu.ca/gazette/stories/5-failings-great-barrington-declaration Bhattacharya is a senior fellow with the conservative Hoover Institution.
  7. Who is L'Liar. If you mean Clinton, ICC was only established in 2002. While Iraq is not a member, Afghanistan joined in 2003. Maybe the Taliban do not have a good lawyer, or don't want to antagonize the US. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Criminal_Court https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/States_parties_to_the_Rome_Statute When the Treaty Conference approved the Rome Statute in 1998, seven countries voted against, including the US and Israel. The US wanted the Security Council to control the Court (so that it could not be charged). "Israel's opposition to the treaty stemmed from the inclusion in the list of war crimes "the action of transferring population into occupied territory"" (first Wikipedia citation). This is an excellent analysis written after the 1998 conference: https://web.archive.org/web/20120414184236/http://www.asil.org/insigh23.cfm
  8. Harris is going to have lots of free time after January 20th, so why disappear now?
  9. Here Netanyahu is comparing his situation with the Dreyfus case in late 19th C France, which was a notorious example of antisemitism. This Netanyahu subterfuge is an example of a strategy that has been going on for around 10 years to make criticism of Israel and antisemitism synonymous. The first example in the US were attempts to suppress student speech on California state university campuses. Not long after the IHRA definition of antisemitism became the core of an international campaign to suppress criticism of Israel, especially its treatment of Palestinians. The motives are not lost by vigilant people: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Working_definition_of_antisemitism#Criticism Besides this Criticism section, the section "United States" has the following: "An attempt to enshrine the definition in US federal law in 2024 encountered strong opposition, with 1,200 Jewish academics opposing the move as a dangerous conflation of criticism of Israel with antisemitism that would threaten freedom of speech.Their open letter asserted that '(c)riticism of the state of Israel, the Israeli government, policies of the Israeli government, or Zionist ideology is not — in and of itself — antisemitic." Here is the location to find the IHRA definition: https://holocaustremembrance.com/resources/working-definition-antisemitism The campaign is now international: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_combating_antisemitism_envoys Some countries where antisemitism is a serious problem started the ball rolling as early as 2004 (US) and the EU followed in 2015. The Israeli Special Envoy for Combatting Antisemitism, Michal Cotler-Wunsh, said on CNN last Sunday that there were around 35 such envoys. I thought that she meant Israeli envoys: https://edition.cnn.com/2024/11/17/world/video/gps1117-rising-antisemitism-and-the-amsterdam-attacks This story was built around the events in Amsterdam, where viral video was initially claimed to be locals attacking Maccabi fans, but the creators of the videos later reported that these were scenes of Maccabi fans attacking locals. NL has a far-right government which was quick to accuse their own Muslim citizens!
  10. Play it safe and drink beer from a bottle.
  11. The Court took a while to issue the warrants. Around 60 countries are reported to have intervened in the matter. As Israel does not recognize the ICC and is not a party to the Rome Statute, the defendants themselves can challenge the indictment if they are ever sent to the Hague. In the meantime, they will have to be cautious in visiting any of the 124 countries who are parties to the Statute. In the above quote the word "genuinely" is key to understanding why the Court has issued the warrants.
  12. It seems that regular consumption of chili works for me. Of course, that comes with vegetables, and I drink water in the daytime, especially.
  13. We can only hope that Congress people read the Wikipedia on this person and refuse to confirm him.
  14. Aside from Project 2025, if in four years there is no two-state solution in sight and the situation in the Occupied Territories is worse, Michigan would be a serious vulnerability with a pro-Israel Jew leading the Democratic ticket. As for the 2000 election, Gore looked pretty healthy, but proposing a strident Orthodox Jew as VP was not sensible with the failure of Camp David and Ariel Sharon's subsequent provocation on the Temple Mount a few months before the election. You may remember that the pivotal state was Florida where Gore lost by 529 votes while Ralph Nader, a Lebanese-American, got 100,000 votes in that state. That seems to be quite a high number for the Greens. Harris in any case was damaged goods by being Biden's VP, and she failed to show how she would do differently and better than Biden. She did not come off as authentic to me, rather insensitive to the concerns of the people. Her resounding loss should have been no surprise.
  15. You are technically correct. Here's a summary of how people, including me, thought that he would not seek a second term: https://www.axios.com/2024/07/03/biden-campaign-democrats-pledge-one-term
  16. Let's hope that in her hext run for the Senate she is defeated in the primary.
  17. For me, failing to honor his pledge to be a one-term president is the worst. The Dems might have had a chance, if they could have presented a better candidate than Harris, but Biden made that impossible. It was the Federal Reserve that managed the soft landing. Biden was the one who brought us the inflation surge that was one of the main factors for Trump's triumph. It's impossible to ignore Biden's weakness in foreign policy, both Gaza and Ukraine. It's unlikely that he can salvage his legacy in the two months that he has left. Biden is just a continuation of a string of failed presidencies. Things started to fall apart in the Clinton presidency, but George "Baby" Bush was the first truly failed one. We had a budget surplus until he came along, and Republicans threw out their dedication to fiscal responsibility.
  18. It's an interesting question how this will work for Americans. I believe that in US double taxation agreements with other countries, the US gives credit up to the amount of tax due in the US, so if Thailand charges more than the US you end up having to pay that amount above what you would have paid to the US. Another commenter suggested that Thailand treats capital gains as ordinary income. Also, at higher incomes, Thailand's rates are higher than US rates. This will really be problematical for retired Americans living here.
  19. I totally agree. The main problem is that Amy is running this year for reelection to her Senate seat, and Dems can ill afford losing any more Senate seats.
  20. Michelle is a lot smarter than Barack, and she would have the sense to see where he failed, such as not making an effective effort to rescue families from foreclosure. That inept performance led to the current shortfall of 3 million homes and many families forced to rent, having lost their principal store of wealth, the family home. Due to the scarcity of housing compounded by high mortgage rates and the pandemic, house prices are out of reach of the disposessed families. This is a whole discussion that has been largely ignored, except for proposed giving of $25k to first-time buyers, a bad solution from Kamala.
  21. You have to consider the motivation for the report in the first place. It's a smear campaign.
  22. Trump was at a rally in Dearborn with six Muslim community leaders including the mayor who are endorsing him. Why? Because Kamala said she would not do anything different.
  23. Her approach is lacking in substance on issues the electorate care about such as inflation, the border. I haven't even heard her on the abortion issue. For young progressives, she has given only lip service to the war in Gaza and Lebanon, not distancing herself from previous policy. She should not have feared backlash for speaking out, since moderate Jews and Christians have big concerns with what's going on. The others will vote for Trump in any case.
  24. If Biden hadn't broken his promise to be a 1-term president, the Dems would have looked further than Kamala. Imagine if Michelle Obama were their candidate.
  25. Maybe you should read the Wikipedia entry. The salient points: "The Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America (CAMERA) is an American non-profit pro-Israel[2] media-monitoring, research and membership organization." "Critics of CAMERA claim that it is an ‘extreme Israel advocacy group’,[12] aligned with hawkish rightwing viewpoints; that it pays stipended fellows to write anti-Palestinian articles; and that it employs smear and intimidation tactics, routinely targeting media and journalists critical of Israel and pro-Palestinian activists on campuses.[13][12][14]"
