  1. I came here at 34, now 45, not married, no kids and don't have a business or work for anyone and have never been on the Thailand Elite visa

Each and every one of the visas I have been on has been a legal visa before anyone asks

There is ways however I will admit it is getting harder, will I be able to stay here until i'm 50 and qualify for a retirement visa? I don't know but I hope so

guy is looking for advice. sounds like you did it but you dont tell him how you did it.

Believe it or not there is a message service on Thai Visa thumbsup.gif

this is a public forum. sure there are many young guys here wanting to know how you achieved staying in thailand so long. i have to say i am quite curious myself. any chance you can tell us?

  2. It was tourists being blamed for all the garbage a few months ago. If the infrastructure can't cope with the tourist numbers then cut back on the numbers. Forget about counting the baht and think about the environment. If it isn't sustainable there won't be a single satang to count.

charge a fee on every tourist coming to samui on the ferry or arriving by plane at the airport. efficiently collect the fee and then use it to form a committee on how to solve the problem. pay expensive consultants to look into the problem and then hope the problem goes away on its own. only took 10 years to get me thinking like a thai. you will all think i am crazy but i actually understand them and how their systems work now. its so beautiful, now i need to study up on becoming a consultant that specializes in waste disposal incinerators.

  4. ......6 years working at the casino and i was saddened by the effects of gambling on the general public.

What was so bad about [legal] gambling?

i saw alot of sad situations. pensioners shoveling their money into slot machines, casino was busy the day after retirees got their pensions. worst one was an older aussie guy going crazy at one of the blackjack tables. i asked him what was wrong and he said his wife (who was asian) had gambled away everything he owned. he ran out of the casino and jumped into the river to kill himself. we fished him out before he drowned. this was just one situation, i saw many more. gambling is like a drug and asians seem to get hooked worse than westerners from what i have seen. on the flip side it would be a great thing to revive the ailing tourism industry (only 30 million arrivals last year) sure some casinos would help relieve the Chinese of their hard earned money.

  5. dont go too hard on the poor guy. looks like he will be loosing hundreds of thousands of dollars over his mistakes. he does not need strangers telling him how stupid he is. remember half of all marriages end in the west and in most of those cases the guy gets ripped there as well. sure many of the guys on this forum lost alot to their first wife in the west before moving here.

hope this guy can get some of his money back, would not like to think of how many guys put themselves in mortal danger trying to get back what they think is rightfully theirs.

reading a great book call 'worth more dead' by ann rule. was thinking about most western men in thailand being worth more dead to their thai girlfriends.think we should all be more care full and follow the policy of not putting houses or cars in their names. my girl gets a sallary/house keeping allowance, it stops when i die. like her to think i am worth more to her alive.

Sounds very romantic.....you pay her a salary to stay with you....lol

    HL

i would never pay a thai woman or any other woman to stay with me. i dont understand why anyone would do that especially when life is so much better being single. the allowance is to pay for everything for our 2 kids.

Haha put your hair back on mate, I'm just pulling your plonked....but it was you that used the word "salary".

thats why i put salary/house keeping allowance. has upset a few people in the past when i say salary. she is a shareholder in my business and the money comes from there so i should really call the payments dividends or profits. dosent matter what i call it, its all the same thing as far as i can tell.

  6. sorry but - stupid is as stupid does

hope that you can afford the lesson

  7. There is no English requirement in Australia to gain permanent residency. Plenty of Thais live permanently in Australia with minimal English skills. They get medicare, the dole, old age pensions and all the other benefits of citizenship. There is a multiple choice written test to gain citizenship, but there is a set number of questions and they can be memorised without too many problems. The test can be taken as often as needed to pass. English is not a prerequisite to a fulfilling life in Australia for a Thai person.

Why is Thailand so strict in its residency requirements (6th grade level Thai oral and written skills, minimum job/salary/tax requirements etc)? I guess it is because Australia is a multi-cultural country whereas Thailand is more xenophobic.

Interesting all those things including no English skills are offered for permanent residency in Australia Yet Kiwis are denied all of this. Have to pay the same taxes and levies but no medicare, dole , old age pension or right to pathway to Citizenship. Kiwis are Australia's Mexicans . Lucky for the 66,000 Aussies permanent in NZ Kiwis are not so Xenophobic as Australians

i am a kiwi and got my aussie passport easily in 2002. things have got really tight since then. paying taxes and not getting the benefits of unemployment or pension is crazy. think you need 3 years gearning a high salary to try to get citizenship.

  8. It might be better if the publish a little yellow book, then everyone can refer to these teachings wherever they are.

In his conclusion, he noted the 12 core values set by the government

    More teachings to adhere to.

i looked up the rules/values of Buddhism. no one seems to follow them. wonder if the kings teaching will be followed any better. what are they, any ideas? hopefully for the good general they dont ban dictatorships.

  10. the word is that gambling will be legalized when a certain important figure head in thailand is no longer around to appose it. it is my understanding that the ambassador city hotel was built to be a gaming facility some years ago but they never got the gaming licences. some one told me that loyde williams a prominent casino owner in australia is a part owner of the massive hotel. i used to work at crown casino in melborne. ambasador is in many ways a similar set up with one low rise building that would make a great gaming floor. the high rise is similar to the crown hotel which has high roller rooms on the 29th floor. i treid to research mr williams involvement in the ambassador without finding anything. 6 years working at the casino and i was saddened by the effects of gambling on the general public.

  11. to get permanent residence in thailand you need to pass a thai language test. is fair enough, i would not want them allowing immigrants into new zealand without being able to speak english. for the vast majority of us in thailand on temporary O and A visas we dont need to speak thai. why should we if we are only here on a year by year basis? this article is poorly researched or just bulls#it made up as click bait.

  12. new airless tires should be perfect for electric cars as they are light and have low rolling resistance

The rolling resistance is no lower than bridgestone ecopia tires sold in thailand. I also fail to see how this is more beneficial to electric vs conventional.

i am still wondering why they have not gone into production full scale

The answer to 99% of the questions in the world is cost. That's why this tire can only make sense in certain special cases.

imagine never getting a flat tire again, and no need to carry a spare. i would pay double for them. 2 flat tires so far this year from screws on the road.

injection mold a hub and glue on a strip of rubber. must be cheaper than making a steel belted radial, new technology but of course the price will come down with time.

i heard bridgestone bought the patent and refused to build them because they would save people so much money it would hurt profits.

alot of good reasons for these new tyres here http://www.bridgestonetire.com/tread-and-trend/tire-talk/airless-concept-tires

  13. I guess that foreigners would have a large number of suggestions for simplifying the work of the Thai immigration services.

Post of the Month! Why not have a five year retirement extention. Pay 5x the annual rate and reduce the workload (and pita factor) by 4x or is that too private sector minded?

my guess is that they like to remind us every year that we are guests in thailand. even 2 year visas would be a vast improvement, i would even be willing to pay 3 times the amount to save going through the hassle.

  14. .....we only get screwed.....

...and surprise, surprise.....where do you think 'our' lawyers stand....???

...the situation is seriously NOT right......

..and nobody seems to be doing anything about it....

...basic human rights include....joint assets and joint custody......

    ...but suddenly....they don't....

well there is plenty of stuff all over the net about not marrying thai girls and not putting houses in their names. i have tried to advise my friends on these things but they almost without exception do not listen to me. last situation was a mate of mine who lost 10 million baht, 2 cars and a large house. he never married her so had no claim on any of his stuff. not that that would have mattered anyway as she had run the loans up against the cars and the house to the point where there was no equity left.

seriously thailand is a mans world but western men shoot themselves in the balls by getting married and putting houses in their girls names. if you dont get married or put anything in their names they can touch you financially on separation, no matter how long you lived together.

maybe someone can recommend a good lawyer who will not just bleed this guy dry. half of 40mill is alot of cheadder to loose. maybe the OP could tell us where he is based. i have a lawyer i could recommend if you are near pattaya.
