Smile and the world smiles with you.
better than living in fantasyland, or is it fairyland? Perhaps you could do the math for us on how a burger place can sell ground ribeye in Thailand?
I'm not sure how you're going to survive life with such a glass half empty attitude. [emoji16]Ribeye? Almost no chance...not even Thai Ribeye. I'm not sure Classic is going to survive the low season....seems to do a very light business. Epicenter of backpacker area. Thai food for 50 thb or burger fries for 170 +/-. If they are really craving a burger, Mcdonald's is much more likely to be their choice, proven by the crowds inside the Thaphae Gate location. High rent, high taxed food, easily duplicable....they come and go like the wind.

I was at Tony Roma's earlier, and a 280 gram ribeye is 1150 THB, with 7 frenchfries or small baked potato, and small salad.

I met the owner a couple of weeks back, he said he'd change to rib eye and a couple of other things based on customer feedback.
I went in today and it was top notch as usual.
They said they are open till 23.00hrs and they're much busier in the evening than day time.
I've now filled up my loyalty card and I'm looking forward to my free meal next time.

No, I was describing to another poster how they can determine if the piece of metal THEY found in supermarkets bread had been baked in or not.
did you say that you found a piece of metal in your toast at the burger place that you frequentI concur.

Any recommendations for storage of a scooter/moped while I'm away for 2-4 months.
As long as it's safe and will be there when I get back.
I don't have my own house or yard to keep it in, and the best place so far is 500 baht a month.

Look closely at the metal, if it was baked into the loaf there will be bits of bread stuck to it. If not, maybe at slicing stage but the metal detector should have picked up a piece that size.

I'm a few months away needing one, and will give it a go if it's convenient to do so. I'll post an update when I do.
That seems to have no distinction between a SETV & METV.nless you have ALL of the following, don't waste your energy in Kuala Lumpur:

Yes, quite so. That is why we strongly recommend people avoid KL unless they are in town anyway, and willing to waste some time to see if their requirements have changed.

The comments suggest you have about a 10% chance of getting a SETV via KL, I think these have built up over years and before the new SETV.The down side of Penang is it is not as easy to get to as KL.
Anyone figure out why KL does not seem to want to give Visas?
My opinion (and ubonjoe has expressed the same view) is that they are lazy, and do not want to go to the effort. No one can tell you for sure.
If it's your first / only SETV from KL and you have the money, flights, paperwork in good order, surely it's not that bad.
KL is a major hub and I'm likely to be passing through later in the year when I need a SETV, I'd like to give an application a go, does any one have reports from this year on SETV applications?
What do I specifically need to have e.g. flight in/out tickets?

Especially the cheap Wednesday tickets
Thanks! The films with the "A" designation always do seem to be the action films that would benefit with this format. I'll try it out sometime with the rare action film that seems worth seeing (like the new Star Wars which I've already seen -- it was worth the price of admission)
It's not the full IMAX size, the smaller version for 70mm films it's much bigger than all the other screens, preferable for things like star wars. There's an Imax screen at Maya mall?

Your call, please update on how you get on.
The previous suggestion for a letter explaining early retirement / no commitment to re-employ when you return and emailing then for comment seems to be a good option for the METV, or go the multiple SETV route.
There's another thread staying UK passport holders can get a METV in Australia without employment letters. That gives you the option of a SETV fit a fee months in Thailand then go to Oz for a holiday and get a METV while there.

If your still there can't you get them to write, mentioning that you're a contractor and although employed now they cannot guarantee re-employment on your return, economic climate etc.
Failing that, knock up your own and print it on their letter headed stuff before u leave.

Isn't the tap water treated in Thailand to WHO minimum standards.
Water borne diseases and there are many vine from untreated, stagnant water.
Is your tap water supplied via a tank or mains,? you can tell by the pressure.
Tanks can be dirty and have dead spots.
It's more likely from some food you've eaten, been to any street food places?

Try get a refundable air ticket or one where u can change date and/or destination at no extra cost.
Note that while the above jpg for Canberra mentions 'adequate finances in the past six months" the Perth Application form A does not mention any time requirement:It sounds like posters are saying Americans can get an METV in Australia though that's not what the OP said. Does someone know that this is possible for certain?
That is what OP said.
It's written on the consulate websites there, that you don't need to an Australian national. The Melbourne website seems to be down at the moment, but this is the application form for Canberra:
http://canberra.thaiembassy.org/Home/DownloadForm/4304860377
From the second page this is all you need to show:
Perth: (Documents require) A BANK'S CERTIFICATE OF BALANCE showing a balance of the amount equal to and not less than $8,000AUD or 200,000 Baht if applying for METV.

Cheaper than a trip back to the UK, Europe, or USA.Obtaining an METV from Australia may be a solution for some but an expensive solution. Flights, Hotel Accommodation, Ground Transportation etc.!
Probably cheaper than 4 or 5 trips a year to neighbouring countries for a SETV

Go to chiangmai buddy website they advertise a volunteer visa which will give you similar length of stay to a ED visa but less total cost and less time commitment to classes.

It's flexible, either input how much GBP you want to send and it will work or what you receive in THB or input how much THB you want and it will tell you how much GBP.
Slightly off topic..... Can you send GBP to arrive at your Thai bank in GBP with xendpay?I use xendpay for low fee money transfers from a UK bank to Thai account.
All I needed for a Bangkok Bank account was my passport, the tenancy contract (proof of address in thailand) and some cash to deposit 20,000 baht. This was at branch in Kad central.

Did you want to receive GBP in Thai bank account? I haven't tried that but maybe.
I've used a couple of transfer options and this is the cheapest so far.

Why not get a METV if you're a UK passport holder that can give you 7 to 8 months before needing to go and get a SETV in a neighbouring country.

I've been looking at the air Asia flight to Hong kong, it gets their at 9.30 you may have time to get your application in before the dead line. If they need evidence of onward travel they also allow bookings that can be date shifted at a low cost.
