  1. Again ill say- It is only useless if you expect to live in Thailand continuously on the cheap on tourist visas

But its easy to ser what will happen. Every Tom Dick and cheap Charlie will be getting back to back SEs from Vientane so they dont have to fly home

Then Thai immigrations will again crack down on back to back SEs and that will spell the end for everyone

There is already a limit on back to backs from Laos and there is still the possibility to apply for METV in Malaysia and Srilanka.

Both Malaysia and Sri Lanka require EVIDENCE of employment !

I doubt that "professional visa runner" will meet the employment critera

  2. Try spraying colloidal silver on the infected skin areas. CS kills bacteria and virus on contact and not harmful to skin at all, amazing stuff.

Many consider colloidal silver an antiseptic and not an antibiotic because it kills more than bacteria; it destroys viruses and eliminates fungal infections. So far, bacteria that are resistant to silver haven’t developed, while colloidal silver can destroy antibiotic-resistant pathogens, even the dreaded MRSA.

    Doug

There is ZERO evidence for "colloidal silver" tbeing effective for the treatment of anything. It is a substance peddled by Quacks.

The American Food and Drug Administration has taken action against some manufacturers of colloidal silver products for making unproven health claims.

  3. Are you sure you have a "Direct Deposit bank account with Bangkok Bank, USA," ?

The Bangkok bank in NY is not a retail bank and does not usually offer personal accounts.

Perhaps reading the content of the link will help remove confusion.

    http://www.bangkokbank.com/BangkokBank/PersonalBanking/DailyBanking/TransferingFunds/TransferringIntoThailand/ReceivingFundsfromUSA/Pages/ReceivingFundsfromUSA.aspx

Sorry for the slow response back at my end... and I do understand this can seem a confusing topic, and is strange on many levels...

Let me supply a couple links of my own... THIS one http://photos.state.gov/libraries/chiangmai/231771/PDFs/Direct%20deposit%20procedures.pdf

...both from the US Government, on THIS page: http://chiangmai.usconsulate.gov/service/u.s.-federal-benefit-information.html

...refers to the account as "Direct Deposit Account", so that the US Social Security can deposit my retirement funds, directly, WITHIN the United States.

This one from Bangkok Bank: http://www.bangkokbank.com/BangkokBank/PersonalBanking/DailyBanking/TransferingFunds/TransferringIntoThailand/ReceivingFundsfromUSA/Pages/ReceivingFundsfromUSA.aspx

    ... DOES explain:

"Holders of US bank accounts can save on fees for international funds transfers by transferring funds from the United States to Thailand via the US Automated Clearing House system (US ACH) and Bangkok Bank's New York branch.

By stipulating the 9-digit routing number for Bangkok Bank's New York branch (026008691) in your US transfer instruction, the funds will be transferred via the US ACH system directly to the receiver's Bangkok Bank account in Thailand, for a lower fee than most other international wire transfer services."

...that it's a New York Branch of Bangkok Bank.
From the ChiangMai US Consulate PDF, (first link above) this information:
    SSDirect_Deposit_VIABangkok_Bank.jpg

and thus... my mild confusion about this...

Since it says the money is "available in Thai Baht at any Bangkok Bank branch"... does that mean (if I don't need the funds in-hand at this time) I can just leave it in this special account (for withdrawal at a later time) and that my account book (with the monthly deposits shown) would be satisfactory financial proof for the ONE YEAR RETIREMENT visa,

...as explained on THIS Thai Government Web page: http://www.thaiembassy.com/retire/retire.php

    ...they state there:

    STEP 2: OBTAIN A ONE-YEAR RETIREMENT VISA

    Requirements:

    • Must be 50 years old and above
    • Passport (signed copies of each page)
    • Non-Immigrant Visa
    • Departure Card TM.6
    • Proof of meeting Financial Requirements
    • Thai Bank Book (original)
    • Letter from your Thai Bank *** any idea WHAT we are to ask them to write, in this letter???***
    • Three(3) 4×5 cm photos, with full face taken

    and from the same page:

Meeting the Financial Requirements for a Retirement Visa:

    Financial Requirements are as follows:

    • Bank Account showing THB 800,000
    • Monthly income of at least THB 65,000
    • Combination (Bank Account + Income x 12 = THB 800,000)

...so taken literally (dangerous to do that in LOS, lol) it would seem that my Bangkok Bank Account Book (with monthly printed updates within) would suffice as proof of monthly income, eh? IE I could just leave the in this special "Direct Deposit Account", until actually needed, at a later date?

    Thanks,

    Pawpcorn

"...as explained on THIS Thai Government Web page: http://www.thaiembas...tire/retire.php "

That is NOT a Thai government link ! It is a COMMERCIAL link to a group of lawyers.

The site is known to have many errors and should not be relied on for good information.

  4. Where is the information that the ED Visa Isis now only 6 months .

The only change I heard is that you only allowed to do 2 in a row not 3 anymore.

After my friend at CHiang mai Immigration was told this last week that he could not now apply for a third 1.

Who would be nice if some one official would put everyone straight on ED visas.

Many schools here for english in Chiangmai still all advertising 1 year. never see a 6 months visa.

All I know a lot of the cottage Industries here in Cm have been completely destroyed by this big shake up.

Good or bad many unhappy Thais and Farangs In Cm with the new Laws.

A one year Ed visa is unobtainable within the region.

The only Ed visa which can be had (with the correct paperwork) is a single entry visa which provides a 90 day entry. Further stay , up to one year depending on the course, is facilitated by extensions of stay granted by immigration to those who abide by the visas terms and conditions which includes attending classes.

Non of this is "secret" and was well published !

  5. Have just been to a local Thai Visa Office and have been informed that it is not a problem after the 13th to get the 6 month multi, just a Passport and 3 photo,s are required. The new rules are supposed to simplify the system apparently. Will be going at the end of the month so will let you know, that is if nobody finds out before.

Do you mean you got information from some visa agent ?

Please let us know when you have obtained an METV

  6. You can request a single entry non "O" visa based on marriage which will provide one entry of 90 days.

What do you intend to do when that 90 day entry is coming to an end ?

    NB

A non "O" visa based on marriage is a non imm "O" visa

They are the same visa !

Ok, so it will only valid for a 90days period only.

I am really confused. Inside Thailand, the single entry non-imm O given by immigration branch is valid for 1 year. The applicant do not need to leave the Thailand.

Anyway, this issue is not much importance, more for clarification.

    Going to get the Multi-entry non-imm O.

    Thanks!

There is NO non "O" visa issued inside Thailand which is valid for one year.

An "extension of stay" (which is NOT a visa) is valid for one year.

    Ok, I understand now.

    One last question.

Is there any difference between the extension of stay based on marriage and non-imm O based on marriage? For example like acquiring Thai citizenship? They stated we need to have consecutive years of staying in Thailand.

I suggest you concentrate on learning the difference between Visas and "Extensions of stay" (which are not visas) before worrying about citizenship which requires a number of consecutive years on extensions and a history of working (with a work permit) and tax payment before you can even be considered for citizenship.

    Your only choices are .......

    1. Apply for an extension of stay based on marriage. (400.000 Bht in a Thai Bank or a provable 40,000 Bht./month income.

    2. Apply for a once only 60 day extension to visit your wife (just 1900 Bht fee)

3.Exit the country for another visa

    NB

A non "O" visa based on marriage is a non imm "O" visa

They are the same visa !

  9. The officer that changes the visa types is not willing to process the application. She did consult another person in the same office who agreed that it would not be accepted.

Thoughts are that I try again in Bangkok telling them that I live in Bangkok but that could be fraught with issues ... unless I actually rent a condo in Bangkok for the duration of the process.

They are starting to wear me down ...

    Thoughts? Ideas?

As mentioned before. From multiple reports, Immigration is not granting this type of extensions. You can try submitting it with a legal firm and all the money that goes together with that.

" From multiple reports, Immigration is not granting this type of extensions",

    How many reports ?

    Links please.

  10. I want to apply for a retirement visa. I have to show proof of 800,000 thai baht aprox to show proof of wealth/sufficient funds for a pension visa. However, do I have to have the money in my Thai account or can I show 20,000 in sterling in my UK account? Or must the money be in Thailand? Thanks in advance for answer.

There is no "retirement" visa .

If you want an O/A long stay visa you can show money in a UK bank.

If you wish to apply for an "extension of stay based on retirement " (it is not a visa) you must show the 800k in a Thai bank.

  11. For those posters saying the Bangkok Bank "New York" branch don't accept retail accounts you are correct. However, but, that has nothing to do in using their ABA/ACH routing number to transfer funds to your "in-Thailand" Bangkok Bank branch account. This transfer method using the NY branch has been in affect for many years, used by thousands of U.S. folks (like me) to cheaply accomplish ad-hoc or scheduled transfers from their banks, monthly pension payments from private companies and U.S. govt agencies, etc.

A Bangkok Bank "Direct Deposit" Savings account is an account at your in-Thailand Bangkok Bank branch and the money can be accessed at anytime but you must "personally" go to a branch to withdraw the funds...you must show-up in person...prove you are still breathing.. You are not given debit card access nor can you do any ibanking withdrawal...but you can deposit to the Direct Deposit account via ibanking, incoming international transfers such as pension payments, etc. It's a regular savings account in almost all respects "but" comes without debt card, no ibanking withdrawals--you must take your body to a branch to accomplish withdrawals. I opened one for my military retirement pension years back but only used it for 3 months or so before switching back to just having the money go to my U.S. bank account as I oscillated in how to best and most cheaply get funds from the U.S. to Thailand...part of that decision was based on me opening some new U.S. bank accounts and getting some no foreign transaction fee debit/credit cards which just changed how I managed and received my money. I still have the Direct Deposit account as I may use it again in the future.

The income affidavit obtained from the U.S. Consulate would provide the basis of the required monthly income, but if an immigration office wanted more proof (which some do sometimes based on ThaiVisa posts) then the person could just show them their Bangkok Bank passbook/statement which shows the monthly foreign payment arriving their account, their pension payment documentation from the paying company/govt agencies, etc....but I expect the Bangkok Bank passbook/statement showing the monthly payment arriving would be the preferred proof.

For my first three or so retirement extension of stays renewals I just used the income affidavit approach...was never asked for any additional proof. Then I got tired of paying the $50 to get the income affidavit and making the trip to the consulate each year to get it, so I just switch to the Bt800K in a Thai bank account for the last 4 years or so. I keep this money in a "fixed" saving account since it earns a lot more interest than a regular savings account, Direct Deposit account, etc. With a fixed account you can still access the money at any time, but if you access it before maturity you lose a most of the interest earning. I just roll the funds over to a new fixed deposit once the current one matures...and I don't add or take any money out...it just sets in the account and grows in size from interest. It also serves as my emergency pot of big money if ever needed "now/right now/today." Immigration has never had an issue...they just grant my retirement extension.

This is what the OP claims !

"I recently set up a Direct Deposit bank account with Bangkok Bank, USA" !

He probably has done no such thing and needs to understand exactly how the system works which is why I provided an informative link.

I have used the Bangkok Bank in London to effect money transfers to my Thailand based account for some years now.

  12. I think it is pretty obvious the Thai elite visa is there for anybody wishing to get a visa that doesn't have a retirement visa or a work permit.

I used to think people were snobs who said this but seriously if you can't stump up the 500k to get the elite visa you really can't afford to be over here.

This is the strangest thing I've heard all day.

If I don't give away 500.000 baht, I can't afford to be here? What! This is very strange line of thinking. Why would I give away 500k? Do you know anybody who pays money, for something that can be had free, or a low fee.

I am a tourist, I stay every winter, 6 months, and I use Tourist Visa, because I am a tourist. Now, you may feel like giving away 500k, and think it is smart thing to do, but trust, very few would agree with you lol.

So I sit at Starbucks, hre on triple entry Tourist Visa, guy next to me gave away 500k for the same thing, who's the smart piggy?

You argue guy like me has no business being in Thailand in the first place, that it truly odd thing to say.

To say this is flawd thinking is putting it mildly. You seem to think people can not afford 500k, and you don't allow for possibilty that they may simply choose to not waste their money.

You choose to pay 500k for something, that doesn't cost 500k, there is term for that.

Yep, I prefer to be the smart piggy as things change here too much.

The only difference is I have to go home once every 15 months and apply for the METV. Sure I have to do a few things. Get my parents that run a Company to say I have a job to go home to on a Company Letter Head. Season 200K for 6 months is easy as I like to have a bit of spare cash around. Buy a exit ticket to Penang or Laos to get gain another SETV for 3 months. Do a SETV twice and head back home.

Rinse and repeat for two more years till I am 50. Might even be able to get 18 months out of this.

Lots cheaper then 500K using Air Asia specials of $350 in total to get home once every 15-18 months. Take my partner on holidays with me. Okay, I might have to go home every now and again but to keep my Medicare going in Australia, I have to go home every 2-3 years for a few weeks.

Okay, the METV might be sucky to work around in the fact you got to go home but it maybe workable. Time will tell.

Sounds good apart from the stated intent to use a fraudulent letter.

  13. I have to show proof of 800,000 thai baht aprox to show proof of wealth/sufficient funds for a pension visa. However, do I have to have the money in m Thai account or can I show 20,000 in sterling in my UK account? Or must the money be in Thailand? Thanks in advance for answer.

If applying for an "extension of stay" based on retirement the 800K must be in a Thai bank.

If you want an O/A visa the money can be in a UK bank
