  1. Sorry if I am hijacking this topic, but I am also trying to work out my approach to affordability.

I have returned to the UK to work while I build up 6 months of income to show immigration for my wife's settlement visa, but would like my family to come over and stay for as long as possible before my wife returns to Thailand to complete the application.

Though I can show enough money in our joint account in Thailand for travel and some spending money and have a few thousand in the bank for over here, I want my wife to be here for around 4 months. Is it possible to show that I have enough extra income to support my family (we will stay with my nephew) from my actual wages? I earn more than the minimum income required to pass affordability for immigration, but I have only recently started this job.

My wife will be bringing my sons with her (they have UK passports and were born in the UK), so do we also need to declare them on the application or is it only my wife that I need to show I can support?

We will not be treating this as a holiday, but as a family visit to spend time together. Therefore I would simply be declaring expenditure on food and day to day living (though I have no idea how I am going to figure out what that amount should be.

Thanks in advance for any help

Not if their parents had done the business, or received the credits 555555 because parents MUST OBVIOUSLY pay in lieu of their children attaining such age and employment status

    Simple really

Unless you are advocating child labour, only joking honest

Yes I am on the hard side no doubt with ten years but the pot is empty

I agree...the pot is empty. Is it not equally true that i may have been paying in Lieu of my wife if I didn't have children thoug?. A pretty circular argument I suppose. If I have to pay more for my wife ( who has already paid 6 years worth) then so be it. I have no problem paying the contribution necessary as I believe we all should. Though it does make finance more difficult

My reasons are my justification, everything needs to be paid for

They are not  paying TWICE for anything where do you get the idea that the NI payment or tax is for the NHS only

The NHS is under a fair amount of pressure

Build up a reservoir of money then draw out of the pot, until such time insurance is the way to go as far as the NHS is concerned

Tax you get the use of the same benefits immediately as all other tax payers, security etc etc

NI contributions will get you a pension if you make enough of them the minimum amount per year is not a tremendous amount of money even now

Everything has to be paid for even the local council services, which you will either pay via rent or direct to the local council

Move to a first world Nanny State and you can reap the benefits but at a price

Does this mean that British citizens who have just started work should also have private medical insurance for 10 years as they have not contributed. Their parents may have paid, but they will have paid for themselves. I agree there must be some payment, but I think your reasoning is slightly off

    See my above posts.

Thanks. It will be interesting when people can see how long the process takes. It should help people like me make a decision. I can't help but feel that the most imortantthing is to make sure all the paperwork is presented and in the correct format. Something I have been wondering about is the request for A4 paperwork. Do they mean completely filling an A4 sheet or just printed in original size on A4 paper?

  5. I am planning my wife's visa application and I am considering the premium service

Has anybody used this and is it actually faster? What are the time frame differences?

My wife will apply in BKK and has been told she simply pays for the service when she goes for her biometrics scan. Will she get a number or receipt to prove she has paid? I understand that if she does this I will need to mark on the documents I send that the service has been paid for (which is no problem), but I am a bit confused how they would not know that from putting in her reference number for the application.

If anybody could give me their experience of any premium srevice applications they have made or any advise I would be most grateful.

    Cheers

  6. Thanks for the replies. I read the government link last night, but my wife is concerned that my teacher friend (from U.S. is not qualified to teach in his country but is a legit teacher in Thailand. My worry now is that she may be correct. I am also worried that the Gov site says that it will make the process longer.

    Any thoughts?

  7. Not sure if this is the right forum for this, but here goes

My sons need to apply for new uk passports as theirs have run out. They are both young and my eldest was 5 when he has his first and my youngest was 1. I understand that they have to have their passport photos signed by a responsible person, but who can do that for them in Thailand? We have no steady doctor as we have moved about, know no solicitors etc, so I was wondering if anybody has done this before and could point me in the general direction of suitable people who could do it for me.

I would really appreciate any advice, otherwise I may have to get the photos sent over here  as I  am currently in the UK working to get them all over (my wife has to re-apply for a visa). and I am not too sure I could do that either as nobody over here has seen them for 7 years.

    Cheers

  8. My family will be leaving Thailand in a few months, but we cannot take our cats with us yet. I was wondering if there is anywhere that looks after cats (We can pay). We would need the cats looking after for about 1 year (maybe less), and would then have them sent to the UK. They are healthy, have had inoculation and the female has been neutered.

Any help or suggestions about what we can do about housing or sheltering them would be much appreciated

  9. I am a little worried about this process now. I will be going through it in April to bring my wife and 2 sons (they already have UK passports and were born here) over. It all seems a bit messy. I have already been through the spouse visa process some 14  years ago, and it seemed pretty straight forward once we had all of the documents and proof ready (which was outlined in detail for us at the British Embassy in BKK). Now it seems convoluted and very hit and miss.

    My worries and uncertainties are

    1.       I am in the UK and will send my supporting documents to Sheffield, and will send them with my wife's documents when they arrive (after application on her part I believe). The documents that I need to send I have been informed are below. I have bolded and underlined the things I have questions about, so any help would be appreciated.

Supporting covering letter from Sponsor ----Does this have to be given inat the same time or with supporting docs sent to sheffield

    Sponsorship form--- as above

    - Application Form (VAF4A)-----  Isn't this done in BKK at VFS? I believe it can even be done online. My belief was that my wife would apply and send me a reference number to use when I send the supporting documentation

    - Appendix 2 -------- As above

    - Copy of current passport (wife)--- Do I also need to send her old passport (especially as that has her old passport with  her previous permanent right to reside (or whatever it was called) in it)
    - English Certificate
    - TB test Certificate
    - Marriage Certificate and translation
    - Marriage Registration and translation--- I am unsure what this even is

    - Supporting letter from the applicant

    Sponsor Information
    - Current Passport (Copy only + pages)
    - Previous passports (Copies and original passports included)
    - Birth certificate
    - Bank Statements (6 Months)
    - Employee Letter, Wage Slips, P60s, Contract of Employment---- I will not have a P60 at the date of application as I will not have worked for a full year and will not have been resident for tax purposes as I have been non resident during the previous 3 years for tax purposes

    Accommodation
    - Original marketing brochure, including photos and floor plan--- I currently live with my sister but will be renting accommodation 1 month before we do the application (not send the documents) as I want to show I am settled in a property. Will a letting agent supply me with these things?
    - Gas, electricity, water and Council Tax Bills--- Not sure I will have these in time as I will only have been in the property for a month or so, and some places I have been looking at include the water and council tax in the rental price so I doubt I could get those . I also assume I am going to need a contract that shows the property is agreed to be let to myself and naming my wife and sons on it. I actually have a property and my wife is on the mortgage with me, but we cannot move into that for the next 2 years.

    Relationship
    - Photo File
    - Line Chats--- Can I simply print these off Line somehow?
    - Hotel and flight bookings--- Does this only matter for those who did not live with their wives full time . I lived with my family in Thailand full time for 6 years, and have never had any separate flight from them or needed to book hotels.

    2.      Does my wife apply in BKK or does she fill the form in online, or does she fill in a form and send it over to me. I really did believe this was still done at VFS as they need to do a bio metric scan, but will they need to see the English test and TB test before they will process the application? I would also imagine they will need the money for the application, and the NHS payment to be made there. My understanding is that I need a reference number for her application that I will need to inform sheffield about as it will tie up the documents to the application. Any info about this part of the process would be greatly appreciated

    3.        Because my sons were born in the UK and have British passports and birth certificates does it complicate the application or will it make the process more viable. There are other things that I do not know whether to mention or not too. My wife had previous right to reside, she worked and paid tax in the UK as will as doing vocational qualifications. She is on the mortgage for our property, and she has a guaranteed job to go to once here. Do you think mentioning these things will just mean more documentation proof that will help, or is it a pointless exercise that will make things more complicated and make the application take longer.

    4. Lastly...I'm sure you are glad. People have been saying it takes months to get documents back from Sheffield, and I am wondering if this is par for the course and that the visas are issued before I will get my documents back. I am hoping that the whole process from start to finish will only take a month...what are the thoughts on processing times?

Thank you in advance for any help, suggestions or examples that you give, and I am sorry this is such a long post

  10. I intend flying 2 cats back to the UK and know I have to have them microchipped as part of the process. However, my wife's research tells her that the nearest place she can have it done up to the ISO 11784 and ISO 11785  standard is in BKK. This is already costing a fortune so I was wondering if anybody knew of a vet that could do it nearer to Sisaket. We have tried the vet by the train station and apparently they do not do. Any help would be appreciated

  11. I thought we played well enough to have one the last few games, but last night was a bad night. We didn't deserve to win the game. I like Salah, but he has to start putting the opportunities away. I love Mane, but completely forgot he was playing at one point. There were far too many players not up for that game and I was left shaking my head at times. That was the first game I have watched with both my boys, and I had explained the way we play to them and what to look out for. They were a bit disappointed to say the least.

To answer whether a fan feels we are progressing.... i for one believe we are (in attack), and that with a bit more clinical (I hate to use the word) finishing we would have won every game. Unfortunately we do not get the goals our attack deserves at the moment, but (apart from last night) we have created ample chances to win games and that is surely  progress. the central defense has not changed and still has the same problems; though I though they were actually better last night. Has there been progress in defense? I think so. Moreno is a better player this season (though being good enough is a debatable issue) and we have 2 young right backs who are coming along nicely; even though they should probably not be our starters. It is the CBs that need real progress, and I don't think we will see that without a new player.

On the subject of defense; I think the choices were wrong. I would have chosen Robinson on the left and TAA on the right. We would have seen more of mane that way and would have had balls being crossed into the box all night. That would have meant them being unable to set up their defense in the same way.

For me this was our first bad game. The others have been bad results; but at least we created chances and showed some great football

  12.

One final thing. I think PC was playing on the left most of the game, but i would like him central all the time feeding the front guys. Perhaps I just didn't notice him doing that though; It was early and a few bevvies had been sunk by then... lol

  13. I was sooo looking forward to this game. I can hardly find anything good to say about it though.I just didn't think we performed as a team or individuals. Firminho was way below par, Coutinho not involved enough, Can unconvincing, Sturridge running down blind allies, Mane and Salah not getting (clearly) past people enough to use the ball well, Moreno no end product and our corners a waste of time.. As I am typing I am changing my mind a little. I thought the defence didn't look as panicky as usual (though I still was), and we still created a few good gosal scoring opportunities. We also need to factor in some great saves by their keeper.

Still, overall I am disappointed with the result. We needed a win so we could forget about nerves in the future. I expect to beat these at Anfield (as we should have this morning) and win the two against Maribor.- I even think we will get at least a point against Seville - so we should sill be good to go through. Win them all and we could top the group.

Your transfer dealings have been your downfall........owners or manager to blame I don,t know :whistling: and the Coutinho saga keeps rumbling on,he,s asked to go so let him, take the ridiculous fee and let Klopp bring in some decent players that want to play for the club

I have to agree that transfers are not enough. I am happy with the 3 players we have, but there should be more. I think the idea of going for Keita and VVD was a great one, but they don't want to sell (like us with Coutinho) so not much that can be done about that. It is the waiting to see if there are backups that is killing me. There are alternatives, but can we get them, do they want to leave where they are, will they fit into our system, does Klopp want them, will there be any value/ The questions are endless, but I would be amazed if there was not somebody out there who could do a job this year while we wait to go back for the 2 main targets (if they are still up for it). Unfortunately, in this market we will be paying the same for a squad member as a first teamer. There must be upgrades on the likes of Klavan, and we don't need the box to box player that is Kieta; we just need a CM who is creative and can open up defences with a well timed or visionary through ball. an ability to dribble and defend would be a bonus. I will be happy on Sept 1st, if only because I can stop thinking about this stuff and enjoy (hopefully) my football

That's some serious cash though. Is he really worth keeping hold of for that much when you could have bought about 3 more players with the money to strengthen your depth? And is he going to be happy?

I think he is worth keeping as I would rather keep him this year. I think he will improve and I think we will sell him next year. I'm confident he will go for 100 million (or close) next season, and in that time we can be setting a deal for a replacement. I an ideal world i would like to buy somebody this season to bed into his role, but I am not sure that is going to happen.. I also thing performance will not be an issue as it is world cup year and the Brazil manager said he would not pick any player who was not playing regularly for his club. He even mentioned PC when he made the statement.. Our side is better with him playing (though he still doesn't excel in all the games), and if we want to get champions league next year too, we need him. Yes we can buy a player like Seri who could link up the play, but are we sure he will be off the mark straight away? We need to be strong from the get go.

  16. Latest bid for PC of 125 million euros rejected immediately. Great news, and I don't expect them to come back. If they do, I am confident it will be rejected again
