Frozen pension policy turns British expat's dream into a nightmare
Presnock replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I read media about situations in the US (and the world) every day. There have been numerous articles about the illegal immigrants invading from the south. Once in they apply for asylum - that means they have to have an immigration court hear their "plea" but due to Trump's cut back in immigration judges, that means that those illegals coming in today can roam around the US (including with their families) whereever they want - most go to Democratic controlled cities where they can get "free housing, food, schooling, etc. If one wants to see how these folks are affecting US citizens, one would have to follow the news as I do as it is open media. Google "Denvier cuts hours of public employees in order to provide monies for illegal immigrants" and there are several articles cited about this very practice. NYC and Calf both have also been providing much to the immigrants forcing hundreds of thousands of their citizens to flee those taxes by moving to Republican states (lower taxes). Goolge can find those too if one is concerned about the accuracy of what I wrote. It is all open source and being reported almost daily. -
re-read the article - that was the guy's name, not the girl's.

Chulalongkorn Tops Thai Universities, Ranks 117th in Asia
Presnock replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
So, how is success measured? My education was at an institute ranked higher on the worldwide scale than that of yours. Does that make a person happier? I couldn't afford college when I graduated from HS in 1964 and enlisted in the military. Then the Gulf of Tonkin incident occured and I eventually spent the next decade working in that problem. I never did get a college education but, had those that worked for me almost all had a college degree, many had their Masters (lsome with several as they couldn't make up their mind what to study I guess) and some even had a PHD. But like I said they worked for me and in the end, I made a lot more money than they did and was much more successful in my profession. So, now I see my some of my tax dollars being spent on "FORGIVING" college loans to people that got useless degrees and cannot afford to pay for those loans they SIGNED for. My success was through hard work and now my family can enjoy the rewards of that career. I paid for my first daughter's college (5 years) and now am paying for my younger daughter's college career. From what I read on this and other forums, I am not concerned with what college anyone went to or not as I easily see that there are a lot of disgruntled ex-pats here so guess those that wasted their college degrees must be a minority or folks just don't seem to be happy here or other foreign countries. Me, I realize that this country is not perfect, but I am accepted here, treated fairly by any that I associate with and can live a much easier life than being in the US in the current society. Not many people there seem to be happy either. So, guess that sheet of paper doesn't mean happiness is guaranteed. -
Amnesty International Condemns Thailand's Human Rights Violations
Presnock replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
The student demonstrations were blocking the further education of the paying students that were not participating in the demonstrations! when a couple of thousand students were arrested around the US, the majority of the colleges were trying to continue teaching for the payment of tuitions as the end of the school year approaches. One can demonstrate peacefully but those demonstrators were preventing the schools doing their jobs and impeding on the rights of the other students. Now those arrested will probably beg Biden to forgive their college loans too. -
Filing a joint tax return in America with Thai wife
Presnock replied to JGA's topic in Marriage and Divorce
same with me - wife has no income but needed the TIN for 1040 joint filing, realtively quick response from the necessary office. -
I once read that many folks live in a dream world (neurotic) but when their mind goes and they believe they are in that dream world then they are psychotic. I think that is what it said anyway so when I read on this forum about people living in dreams, I google that "how many people living in dream worlds actually think they are living in that dream?" and found numerous articles from many different magazines over the years have actually published many different studies showing the widespread practice....interesting reads! Take care be happy be satisfied ... glory just fades too quickly!

How to retire in Thailand
Presnock replied to CharlieH's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Well if one has an abode, doesn't mind eating at home, there are numerous restaurants serving good quality and healthy foods too that can be delivered just about anywhere in country. Several grocery stores selling local and foriegn foods say online that they will deliver within Thailand. I for one don't eat the fast food type from any shop since there is healthy and hearty food everywhere (ALMOST). -
American Man Arrested For Assaulting Girlfriend With Golf Club
Presnock replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
as mentioned by others, those in the US and other countries all seem mad about the world in which they find themselves either through drugs, schools, parents, the lack of same plus other reasons too I guess but their only response seem to be VIOLENCE with whatever means they have available to them. Like mentioned too, I also am glad I'm here and don't hang near any of this type. Be safe all. -
I have an LTR too, 90-day reports are not necessary according to my benefits. I think you should check about your LTR to see what benefits you have about out and in country too as well as the 90-day reports and benefit of TM.30 once a year too and how that works with the LTR. Just a suggestion from me,,,be careful of agents some good some not from what I hear but since I never use one (in Thailand over 25 years) so have heard a lot of stories.

Question about Long Term Residency Visa
Presnock replied to Eddie45's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Agent not needed. BOJ officers extremely helpful and speak English well. If you have the proper documentation to provide proof of the requirements, it goes smoothly and quickly. Good luck -
Question about Long Term Residency Visa
Presnock replied to Eddie45's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I had overseas health insurance coverage so only 3 weeks from start to finish. In my opinion the best for the least cost. -
Supersports also used to carry them. MY wife bought a couple years ago and hardly ever used them. I just purchased a set of weights - cheaper in the long run and more versatile.

Question about Long Term Residency Visa
Presnock replied to Eddie45's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
actually, just google the LTR, Board of Investment (BOI) and get the 4 categories direct with requirements and benefits. Is very short so doesn't need to consume a lot of one's time. One of the least costly and beneficial to many expats. No more 90-day reports either. Cheaper in many cases than the yearly extension of stays. -
Billionaires in Cities around the world - Bangkok 11th place
Presnock replied to freeworld's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
When Trump was prez, he lowered the taxes of the huge corp and billionaires and promises to do more lowering if they contribute to his re-election....the rich just get richer while the middle class becomes the lower class and cannot even afford to buy a house anymore in the US. Not sure what it is like in the rest of the world. -
Frozen pension policy turns British expat's dream into a nightmare
Presnock replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
There have been numerous US news articles on the govts of Calf and NY especially NYCity where such things as local public schools closed so that the buildings can be used to house illegal immigrants, in some cities local citizen workers are being furloughed hours weekly so that the funds that would go to their pay can be usd to care for the illegal immigrants. You probably don't read US news much or you would see these articles. I am not going to quote day, issue, etc. If you don't believe me, I don't really care either. This was part of my upbringing too, I don't lie. There are many stories of the citizens of Calf and NY fleeing due to the taxes being so high. Another story - over 600K California workers come across the Mexican border from their homes to work in that state, and then in the evening go back across the border to their homes as homes are too expensive for them to buy in California. An example - one story says that there are no available houses for sale in San Francisco for less than a million USD. In NY even, an illegal immigrant is being sought by the police for puting out an media message on "how to squat free on house in NYC:" These immigrants are squatting on any empty house - even if the owner is just gone for short time on vacation or the like and these illegals are squatting on that property. The legal owner cannot just kick them out, as they can fight it in court and can take a long time to be forced out. On top of that you as the owner (on the contract for utilities (electricity, water, heating etc) you cannot turn off those while the case is adjuticating without being fined yourself! any damage to the property by the "squatters" has to be paid for by the owner! These are just a few of the news articles I have read recently. -
How to retire in Thailand
Presnock replied to CharlieH's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Two top selling books today have been written by Dr. Wiliam Li - both deal with health benefits of hundreds of different foods most of which due to the climate, are readily available in Thailand. There are restaurants that sell meals with these very healthy foods and are very tasty though I guess not everyone likes healthy foods. Since my wife found these restaurants, I eat at least one meal a day from these restaurants (at home). Besides that meal, I buy fresh fruits, yogurt, fresh berries, nuts, seeds, and veggies (organic is available). My food bill each month is much more than it was when I retired here 20+ years ago but is still well within my budget. I don't drink alcohol nor do drugs of any type. I exercise daily, most days more than once (walk 6km a day, weights, core exercises) and during my time here have been very healthy even with pollution (I wear an95 mask) have air purifiers. When one sits down and starts to look at my life, I begin to wonder if I would be able to afford such an existence if I had remained in the US upon retirement - so far the answer to me is very clear. But, TIT, I knew that coming in as I was assigned here several times prior to retirement (first time during the VN fiasco as a tech rep in NKP and fell in love with the country. There of course has been many changes in government, yet most things have remained the same. For me right now I feel that I should be able to live easily (unless I die of course) and with minor changes that might come about. I change my retirement O to the LTR, and only receive a US govt pension which supposedly can only be taxed by the US govt so for the next ten years I will be be sitting here in front of my PC and responsonding to whatever latest govt ploy to garner money and wondering if I might be affected. Since I seldom order from the mail order giants as rumors of fake goods, I can't see how this latest plan will affect me. Good luck to those though that do use those giants or other overseas sources for material goods. Good health to all, maybe the rains will begin in late May...I notice a two-week slip from last prediction by the weather experts. -
More quality tourists: Israeli nut job steals package.
Presnock replied to NorthernRyland's topic in General Topics
Ever since the Swiss back of the doctor kicker, straight downhill with numeours stories daily. I am starting though to see a trend - kick out the gorilla men attacking anyone (I vote for them all to go immediately) and those women that also physically attack others should also go immediately out of the country never to return, yet the stories of the female persuasion attackers just seem to vanish. Are they offering something different in this world or what? Attack someone with a knife - get arrested and then a couple of weeks later attack someone else. Time to get rid permanently of all the violent ones before they do even more damage to innocent people. My opinion anyway. -
I sure hope you are not inferring that Trump supporters can think for themselves! Americans seem to have lost that concept when it come to voting... and whoever chooses the candidates for the last 40 years in my opinion but I can honestly say I have never voted Democrat nor did I vote for Trump and I will not vote for any current candidates for either party...maybe the country should go to the likes of those countries putting up 10 or more candidates and start narrowing them down...but then again honest, patriotic, not favored by the big $$$$ contributors. OVer the cliff, down the drain seems to be the only option this year again!!!

The absurdity of the LTR handling
Presnock replied to SingAPorn's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I had the opposite experience in obtaining the LTR. Took a total of 3 weeks. Yeah, they didn't understand that the 1099R sent to retirees is on one sheet with 4 copies of the statement of yearly salary which is what they needed. I had monthly annuity payments too but that too had to be multiplied by 12 to obtain the yearly salary so could not be used. We settled on a copy of my annual IRS tax form (1040) which shows the annual salary paid too. Yeah, fortunately I am an American so all my documentation was in English and they had zero problems with that. The officers at the BOI were always extremely polite and helpful in dealing with me via telephone. 3 weeks from start to finish in my opinion was very quick! Hopefully it will be so for most of the applicants. -
Frozen pension policy turns British expat's dream into a nightmare
Presnock replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
same thing is happening in other EU states as well as in the USA where taxes paid for by citizens have to go for the care, housing, schools, etc of the illegals. Will eventually break the backs of the citizens for sure. Already the states leading the "take care of the illegal immigrants first" programs are losing hundreds of thousands of citizens each year! If one reads the news regularly then one would recognize that this is a big problem for the "developed "free" states as China, Russia, N. Korea, Iran, Afghanistan don't have an imigrant problem. Sorry to intrude on the Brit problem but just wanted to let them know that the problem also exists elsewhere. -

what I fail to understand about users of this forum, how come so many people don't know how to search for a particular subject but instead we users are required to provide a particular address for that info which in almost every case can be found with many additional info-providing sites about the same subject. -
Google "internattional schools and tuition in Bangkok, Thailand". It lists the 138 international schools plus their tuition by grade of those in Bangkok. Then if you want you can contact certain schools and ask if they provide any discount for certain foreign passport holders. My daughter went to an International school in Chiang Mai and the discounts they did give were either for certain religious memberships or locals that could not affort the tuition but passed the entrance exam and were given free or lower tuitions. I can't imagine a school providing tuition lowered unless the school is sponsored by a particular country organization but I also know that they sometimes provide scholarships for certain students to keep them returning each year. Good luck - now school and HS are more expensive than many colleges.
-
As I have said that in my opinion, almost all of us will not be affected by the new interpretation but being an old fart, working and living here a long time, I realize life can sometimes stab you in the back so to speak. I really do not believe I will be affected for at least the next 10 years but then again who knows?

GPS coordinates now required.
Presnock replied to tirekicker's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
CM immigration officer put the coordinates on my original TM.30 after a couple of years of using it during my annual extension of stay. I didn't have to provide them with the coordinates.
