  1. Look for a Thai female cook to stay with you or visit daily to fix meals.
  2. Actually if you are an American, you get a 1099, 1099 or W2 form (required to be given to you by the end of January I believe) that is a govt document says how much money you have been paid indicates who paid you that money and how much tax was withheld by that paying office. I realize that once you do file the 1040's, you may end up paying less as you would get more deductions possibly but the original pay slip should satisfy the Thai RD that you did receive how much and how much tax was with held by the paying office. But, TIT and I am not sure that they would accept those documents - the BOI wanted a copy of my 1040's and not accepting the 1099R which is a US govt office paying my pension. But, the new year is rolling around shortly, still nothing new from the RD and guess the only think we will see soon maybe is the "new" tax forms for 2024 and we will be checking those I guess for any possible clues as to what will follow. The same for those "disscussions" of further tax scheme - maybe the new govt will let us know, especially since I see more news articles on the desires of the govt for more retirees and talented folks getting possible breaks to come here though nothing definite has been provided publically YET!. Best of luck to all
  3. Amazing AN users here - blaming the victim AGAIN! Who really cares if any older man wants to job anytime during the night or day with or without a shirt on. Until recently, I did my daily walks at 3AM until my wife made me stop after I ran into a 4-meter Python. I can recall jogging throughout my life at all hours of the day or night in many different countries. I have always thought of Thailand as a friendly place but now maybe times have changed or the people have changed. Stay safe
  4. American only! But do respect the SAS and other allied military.
  5. Lots of different stories as I lived in Eur, Africa, Central America, and many countries of Asia - not were friendly when I was there. I carried bodies of co-workers and their families back to the US for burial too, if you ever watched any of the flights into Andrews carrying fallen ones you would realize just who is crazy. Also spent 10 years working the Vietnamese problem as a Viet Linguist in war as a soldier and as a civilian. Spent many a night in a bunker as rockets exploding on our tent city. Ran around in jungles without fear and now a tiny spider might scare me - then I didn't mentally realize the danger but now who knows what venom that spider might carry? Been carried to and from work in some areas in armored vehicles with several escort vehicles. Some days drive to work in one car, a different one going to lunch and then another entirely different one to go back to quarters. Been chased by MIG aircraft - VN, Chinese and even Ruskies. But such is life many years ago. Now it is more dangerous to go shopping, out to eat or just take a walk in many US cities - that is another of the reasons I remain here in Paradise.
  6. Which generation are you questioning as there are several present nowadays from us baby boomers to the x y and Z'ers - Now in my opinion, my generation began with partial blame to the downslide based on what I saw in wartime and in several faily dangerous assignments during my career including just missing a terrorist attack killing a couple of my co-workers when I and my wife would normally have been with them. Other assignments had confirmed surveillance on us regularly with cars chasing us, etc. I have carried weapons of war and used them but never against what I considered innocent folks - only those trying to shoot me. I really don't understand the Woke'ers nor what they stand for just as I haven't really understood why we in the US continue to get such pisspoor candidates at all levels of the government. Also not sure what this question is all about but do wish the best for all the writers and readers
  7. Oh you mean like in other countries too as they always seem to post "Fishing is not allowed" as even in other countries most of the locals would not realize the state or local rules either. IF police find one doing it in an unmarked location, they just inform those fishermen that it is illegal to fish there and no problems but here, they probable want a big fine and possible incarceration for several years.
  8. Unless the US laws have changed, US police and other government officials cannot easily scan any private individual's account. I too realize that this has been done surreptitiously many times but it is still illegal to violate the privacy of citizen's without a court authorization. However, if on an open social media channel, one sees something that indicates criminal acty, once reported to officials, and authorized by the court, police or other officials can then scan any citizen's acty, private or not. But if anyone thinks that the US govt or any organization can easily scan EVERYONE's activity, the organization would have to have the populace of CHINA or INDIA to man the ear phones/look at data. Snowden revealed what was "collected" by the government, but not was "processed" illegally if any. As for the big social media companies, they are only selling data that one puts on that media freely just as WE do on this forum. It can be monitored by anyone and people should obviously be aware of that. Just saying.
  9. Anyone that takes guesses from forum users is in the wrong forum since this one only has thousands of guesses and anyone scared from any of them is ignorant of the facts for sure. As for supplying a link, If you cannot find what I sent too bad for you but you are the one missing what I said was true. I was only quoting and if you don't like it or understand it you are the one missing the quote . I was just passing info that has been reported via the Thai Examiner several times. I do not waste my time of returning to month or more articles when one asks a makes an incorrect statement about one of the articles. You or anyone else if really interested can find it for yourselves or ignore it like I do many times. End of story for me.
  10. Suggest anyone doubting what I quoted as being reported in articles of the Thai Examiner about the taxation of expats, then you should google "thai examiner", then on the economy section, scroll down to page 2 then look for the article of the interview with the thai Revenue Director about the 100,000 letters sent to locals about taxes, then continue scrolling down through several articles on the Thai economic situations, until you see the title about taxing foreign tax residents on all income whether it is remitted or not and then another article on "some expat tax residents face a tax bill of 71K baht a year and if still not settled whether or not expats are targets, it goes on to an article about the OECD agreement of 2023. What I fail to understand about some of the forum users, they immediatelylike to jump on users without checking all the facts first. It seems obvious to this OLD FART and computer ignorant that I can find these articles easily and tell people where they are - I just don't give one a link as i think people should know how to "search" for something on social media. If I can do it easily, then you younger folks should be more able to do it than me. I have been know to make a mistake now and then as to semantics but once I realize I was wrong I apologize because I don't want to mislead anyone but on this forum, and the taxation schemes immediate or probable are still mostly guesses anyway. Best of luck on your search.
  11. I said that I read that bit about trhe thai revenue director's talk about taxing foreigners - mentioned first off about the 100,000 letters to locals about taxes, then later mentions on 1 Jan 2024 about taxing remitted funds, and then even further below there is an article about the worldwide income taxation of "FOREIGNERS". This is as I mentioned, I read in the Thai Examiner and I just checked it out and it is there so whether or not you believe it, I only mentioned what I had read as it seemed you missed the "foreigners" as targets for both taxation schemes, the one already implemented and the one under discussion. If you had continued reading that article it is just another article about taxation of worldwide income of foreigners. The article is the 2nd below the original about the 100,000 letters to locals, followed by another about tghe Thai economy then one entiltled "The Taxman now plans to tax foreigners on all income whether it is remitted into Thailand or not", then another article about "some expat tax residents face a tax bill of Baht 71K a year, then another about the OECD agreement of 2023. These are all under the original article of the Thai Revenu DIrector's note about the 100,000 letters to locals about their taxes. One would have thought you could read those articles lumped together in th Thai Examiner but guess you just wanted to jump on me because you couldn't see or read that article that I told you where to find it.
  12. Especially since in the DTA, the Article 21 just following the SS Article 20, specifically mentions that US govt pensions could be taxed by Thailand if the recipient is a Thai tax-resident and also a Thai native. This is one question that I am sure will be thought about by the Thai Revenue Department.
  13. I as an American often give my opinion about an issue on this forum for Brits, Aussies, Germans, etalia as this is an open forum and I am a member and welcome any info on interesting issues, especial those issues that could affect all expats. I especially liked this addition by a "Brit" (I guess) as it could affect all of us and I too would welcome the response as to what RD office advised that we might ALL be under the microscope for taxation purposes.
  14. suggest you read the Thai evenue definition of a Thai Tax Resident. I read the version of the Thai Examiner and in that version she specifically says foreigners but any foreigner who stays in Thai for 180 days or more is considered by the Thai government to be a "TAX RESIDENT"
  15. I think that the royal exemption states that the exemption can be removed by the DIR Gen of the Thai Revenue Dept so unless they want several thousand complainers by removing that exemption, I think it will stand but then again TIT. I am not worried since my only income is a US govt Pension and then they would have to inform the US govt that they are tossing that international agreement too which I don't think they will do either but....
  16. Agree that some of the expats will have quite a varied financial life and the more varied, the more important it is to keep great detailed documentation just in case.... be able to protect your stand in my opinion. Hopefully very few will actually have any problems this first year until we all see how well the RD did plan to tackle the new schemes.
  17. THis is the same ol' crap we have been seeing since they came out with the scheme. Agents and other forum members here are still just guessing as the RD hasn't come out with any changes or updates that have been published anyway. Maybe when the "new" tax forms reportedly will come out in Nov or Dec will have something new in them. Until then I am only continuing to glance through these messages. Good luck to all this tax season.
  18. Ask me again after Nove 6Th
  19. Yeah AS soon as I got the 1099R (w2 equivalent of earnings and taxes paid and health insurance paid for the previous year (required by law to provide to taxpayer by end of January and normally the govt office provides it around 20 January - I filed immediately and IRS accepted the forms by the end of January and I had a refund check by 7 February. But my only income is a Govt pension so I have no assessable income to file in thailand IAW the DTA. But, I can only imagine that unless they get a bunch of extra funds that the Thai govt via the Revenue Department will be looking at some means to force the expats to begin getting a TIN and then filing but a negative tax owed - perhaps when the new tax forms come out reportedly in Nov or Dec, it will indicate non-assessable income (govt pension, ss for US) or exemption via the LTR - we will hopefully see - otherwise I don't plan to get a TIN nor file any tax forms unless the current laws are changed. Best of luck to all.
  20. The way I have heard it, ifone does have assessable income remitted here or earned here and follows the tax laws here, then one must get a Thai tax ID. I guess the tax forms once they are updated later this year, will be available on line and then one can see if they understand the forms or will take it to an agency dealing with the farang tax payers. YOU supposedly will be the one that determines how much you will be required to pay - or the agency will advise you plus their fees. Good luck! Also you should be aware of any details in a Double Taxation Agreement if your country has one will Thailand.
  21. True if your pension is DTA protected but, the Thai govt may know how much you remitted so they might ask you to prove how much is protected by the DTA or where the pension and ss came from. And again maybe not too as they probably will be buried by those that do have assessable income remitted this year. Good luck
  22. If no assessable income then you don't have to file a tax return...you might get audited but if you can prove the remittance was from prior savings there should be no problem. but TIT and I am no expert but this is my understanding of assessable and non-assessable income remitted. Good luck
  23. In addition, parents have the responsibility to explain about sexual abuses even minor ones, and assure their child that there will be no negative consequences from the parents if the child advises them of such activity by any teacher, adult or other students or anyone!
  24. If one has been noticing the stories around the world (mostly developed nations but some developing) the birth rates are dropping drastically to negative growth in populations just as you mentioned about bringing children into this world. The biggest reason most claim is COSTS of everything continue to rise and jobs and pay continue to shrink. Like the US - used to be that the "American dream" was home ownership - now in many states the cost of the average starter house is over a million USD or way more than any average person could afford. Guess that is why I and many other retirees are in Paradise Thailand...wonder how long this will last. Have a great Thursday!
