  1. dreaming for sure. Water seeks the lowest point, so rivers normally flow to the oceans and when any obstruction built (I.e.) towering buildings, raised highways, houses, etc. the waters usually begin to back up and eventually it will lead to flooding somewhere. Sometimes dams are built to FLOOD a large area to collect the backed up waters, and then just when one thinks they have done that solution, a drought occurs like this year here and there is not enough water left in the dams to support farmers. or the dams break and horrible flooding results. Better water mangement needs to be put into effect and after hundreds of years of annual flooding, one would think some positive resulting projects or management would occur or maybe not...for those affected either negatively or positively - good luck with increased record rains.
  2. Need more info on your likes/dislikes as Thailand has a multitude of various types of environment. Mountains, waterfalls, beaches, islands clear/unclear water, accessability (some motorbike only in remote areas), Bangkok night life or Pattaya bars, Bangkok shopping, tours of temples...etc advise, then we can tailor a trip (length) and various acty you seem to enjoy.
  3. was already reported by someone else...if you can't find an article using google, you should learn as there are numerous articles about this very subject
  4. If I were to buy an EV then first I would buy solar panels to assist in the daily charging. As high temps daily continue to spread everywhere, A/C use can greatly increase electric bill so I would definitely have an EV that I could charge at home. Though to tell the truth, I like gasoline hogs but then I am just an old fart anyway and don't know any better. Good luck to all with whatever...
  5. Yeah once one reads the whole articles of today, the headline is meant to capture one's eyes and they you read the whole thing an realize it is maybe half right but half wrong too.
  6. And, look at the news stories of this week - hotter than normal (which we know will continue) and power companies having problems keeping up with A/C use. Imagine any major US city having only 50% EV's and all charging. Get your solar panels soonest.
  7. I sure don't understand any negative views. My retirement check goes to that bank, then I forward whatever I want to my BKKB here and have never had a problem - once it took 2 days to get here so I sent a message asking if there was a problem - for 5 years, it has only been longer than 1 day for funds to arrive that one time. My credit card is watched closely and if there is anything suspicious they advise me immediately with a free call telephone to advise them re payment, my wife and daughter were added to the account, not problem and always advise immediately about deposits. Daughter needed a signed account membership from the bank for college application and 1 day later the bank provided said letter. Always have responded immediately. One thing you would have to do is to become a member in one of about 50 to a 100 organizations - i.e. I joined American Citizens Abroad but there are like I said many to choose from and no problems joining,. From what I have been told by the organization ACA, once the account is opened with you as an ACA member one can not continue the membership the following year yet still retains the bank membership. It is a US bank, funds are protected and should be no real problems in joining. Like I said, the bank has been great for me, costs are minimal, and since I don't have or fake a US address I can relax as I don't think that they will close anytime soon. Good luck
  8. not at all and the list of dislikes and even likes will continue until China rules the world or people realize that the total environmental negatives are even worse for the EV's. When the ICE vehicles came into being they were thought to change the world and yeah then people realized how filthy the air was so lead-free fuel was brought about and the corn growers in many countries became wealtjhy as the govt subsidized them to use corn for alcohol to mix with the fuel instead of lead. Some air did get better but still to much pollution in too many other industries. We continue chasing the golden goose and have already begun to realize the eggs are fool's gold only. By the time something is found, mankind will probably be doomed already. Have a nice day!

    BMI

I practice all of it daily at 77 and don't plan on stopping any of it. books by dr. William Li ,Harvard heart specialist, researcher, writer are now in the top selling lists about diets and foods to prevent and even can cure diseases that affect all of us.
  10. how can you be put on blood pressure medicine if you are in "good shape"? And yes, the COVID vaccines have had some strange effects on some people. as mentioned by someone else a diet change might make the high BP disappear too and no side effects from natural foods that can lower your BP.

    BMI

all depends on fat percentage of your weight. Waist size? I still have probably 2 inches that I need off my own body, I work out regularly eat only healthy meals (no sugar no fat high fiber meals) on my own bmi I am 2 pounds under the lowest ideal weight for my size. Losing those last 2 inches is rough. You should be able to look at yourself nude and determine how much you need to lose. At 50, over the next decade what you will change in your life will determine how healthy you might be in your 70's or 80's. Most of my life (50 years at least) I was a runner - until I turned 65. Still continued exercising and walking (8km morning and 8 km evening) - lost 18 kilos in 3 months without a strict diet. I am not saying you should walk that much - especially at first, but walking is natural and you can wear running shoes - many types not to expensive but quality. start slow, and fast walking itself is not the answer - as studies show, the top distance is about 7500 steps pace forget about that but for your height it will probably be somewhere in the 6 km range. Start at a km a time and build up weekly. breathe through your nose (if outside in pollution wear an n95 surgical mask). Cut starches, eat veggies first, protein and then starches (potatoes/rice/bread). Veggies should include broccoli, bok choy swiss chard protein - fish chicken Try eating during a 12 hour period and then (including sleep) 12 hours of not eating. Drink 2 cups of coffee, 2-3 cups of green or black tea (no dairy no sugar) each day...try including beans as a protein regularly too. Just some hints as I am sure others probably have many more.
  12. They use the same explanation for not having done "preventive maintenance" a concept missing in most cases here.
  13. Interesting EPOCH news article today that almost 50 percent of EV users will switch back to ICE vehicles for their next car. Many different reasons.
  14. Also, State Department Federal Credit Union (SDFCU.org) will also open accts for those without a US address. One doesn't need to be an employee of the bank nor the govt. Easy to do, when my BOA account was closed 5 years ago, (after 50 years a member) I joined the SDFCU, credit cards (various benefits for different cards) , etc. For 5 years has been very helpful and no problems.
  15. Yeah the original attack occurred in April...as his condition deteriorated, have the polic arrested the perp and is he still here or did they let him leave the country?
  16. yeah, notice I said settle up with immigration soonest.
  17. OOPs, I had not read the 2022 message from US dips that one needed to get some other documentation if the passport had expired already. And now I note all the others advising contact the embassy immediately and they will assist you in getting an emergency pp which you then take to immigration and settle up with them soonest. Good luck
  18. The US will accept you with an expired Passport. Best option is to contact the US embassy and they will advise you of exactly what you need to do to get new travel documents/passport or whatever. Once you get the new passport then just go to Thai immigration and they will transfer the stamps. Contact the embassy immediately so they have some time to work out to get you a new p/p b4 20 July.
  19. I think that if they do change the visa retirements to age 60, they will most likely grandfather those current retirement visa holders that are under age 60 and the new age would apply to any new applicants.
  20. My opinion is that they would not wipe out the DTA's as they are treaties between governments. I realize though that many countries' DTA in English or Thai may be different in translating from the country's language - I worked for years as a translator and have seen the difficulty that many translators have with with Thai and which word meaning approximately the same to someone not familiar with the language and since these treatiesl are special language use words it could be totally different from what one might expect it as those originally making these treaties would actually be able to discuss them so they fully understood what each side meant but that in most cases could even be decades ago and languages sometimes change along with the society. That too may be why they would not even consider trying to do a new DTA. I also realize from this forum, that many people have some particularly varied financial situations - I fortunately being financially dumb, have a very simple financial situation and can relax. I hope that most of the readers here also know just about how they will fare with anything new that has been suggested. Once we do get some definite details maybe most can just relax and continue to enjoy life here. Good luck to all.
  21. As I have mentioned several times, I am an American and proud of that fact. I also have noted since around 1968, deterioration of the society as a whole in the US and the younger the generation the worse it seems to become. I have friends, family and relatives living in different parts of the US and get the same stories from all of them - no one seems happy anymore and violence is the response for even the most trivial of issues. I became disappointed a long time ago with the political situation as candidates for senior responsible positions seem to be selected by $$$ within a party and each election I become more afraid for the future of my country. Now we have two real losers in just about every sense of the word, one is promising the rich he will even cut their taxes and taxes on their businesses again if he gets elected. The other is a senile pervert that has no clue on how to run the country. I never heard of him providing Delaware with anything great and he sure did nothing with O and CO. I could not honestly give my vote to either! I pray that GOD does have mercy on the citizens of the USA and the rest of the "free world".
  22. Yeah, good luck on the LTR. I too hope that there is no major change in the benefits - besides the taxes, no 90-day reports either and over all cost not much more or even less than the yearly renewals...they might even change the cost of those as some are suggesting too. If they did that along with the widening of taxes that would ensure no retirees would come here.
  23. BTW I note fm another forum user that there will be another webinar on tomorrow fm HUAHIN. Wonder if it will say the same things, SUGGEST other wild things or just advertising their service. I will listen/watch or whatever and read the comments of others. Though as I have said, I know exactly what my resposibilities are until the government comes out with something telling me something new or nothing new. I know that Mike has to frustrated with the same folks complaining without offering constructive thoughts. Hang in there Mike, smile enjoy life here!
  24. What i was implying is about those that brag even openly about never paying the taxes anywhere and I have continued saying many times here that this new interpretation of the thai tax law might not affect any of the retired expats as some ASEAN countries that also changed the way they look at taxes after July 2023 OECD agreement and are not taxing pensions at all nor anything that has been taxed in one's home country even though they are tax residents in SEA. I still believe that IF the Thai look at what the retired community does in benefits probably outweighs anything that they change if they do go to a world wide even program. Though some people are I guess leaving quickly so as not to become tax residents, I guess it would obviously cost them too much. The OECD program if one reads their documents that a forum reader provided a link, the main reason for the changes is to enable countries to get taxes that are paid as a "fair share". Good luck in any case
