  1. I find buses torturous. Nakhonchai Air is only at night, I can't sleep sitting up, you can't see anything and you don't get to stop and see places.

I already do this route pretty often in my own vehicle I love to drive but sometimes a flight is nice if you aren't transporting things. And then there's the fact I've almost been washed off the road and hit by a tree in Nam Nao during rainy season. I'll take an hour flight. I'm 5 minutes from the airport. I could be eating khao soi in about 2 hours. That is indeed awesome! :)

Air Asia also has good promotions if you plan ahead. I flew to Phuket last year cheaper than a bus ticket to Bangkok.

Every time. I never fly overland. Always use land transport. Much more fun. I would never drive myself. In this case Nakornchai Air provides an excellent service btn Ubon and C.M. It might be 1 hour in the air.How many hours do you have to sit in the airport? .How long does it take to get to the air port?. How long does it take to exit the airport. To get to your destination. NOT 1 hour.

N C Air do have several day buses from Ubon at least for Bkk.

The direct flight to Phuket, and the future one to CM are indeed valued improvements for most people.

I for one would not consider going by bus to (for example) Phuket, but each to his own............ :D

  2. I haven't stayed there in many years, but dropped by a month ago, and the place is upgraded with German? management, and had a nightclub on the ground floor - a perfect hideaway for a single male :whistling:

Tacos and Salsa, Mexican food just across the street.

Other options in the area are the new BB Mansion, between soi 18 & 20, Drop inn soi 20, and Baan Sukhumvit in both soi 18 and 20..... :D

  3. I have been there, must have been back in 2007/08. I remember it was cheap to enter, 40 baht?, not many visitors, not well maintained, but had quite a range of animals and birds to look at. :D

  4. I cannot imagine there are enough expats in the area that actually would attend the movies to make it viable like elwood said however having said that the manager of City Mall assured me that their new complex which must be getting close to completion will be showing a lot of movies in English so one can still hope!

Unfortunately, there is usually some difference between what is said and what happens............

  5. I usually stay in Drop Inn or Baan Sukhumvit, in a side soi just 50 m off Suk 20 or Suk main. Location is very quiet, yet close to "everything".

Small newish hotels with 10 to 20 rooms, friendly staff, free internet, etc. :D

You forgot to mention the price....doh! biggrin.gif

Hm yes, usually I pay between Baht 1100.- and 1400.-/night breakfast incl. In June at Drop Inn, I paid "a special" 1200.- :D

  7. N'Joy has now reopened with new Farang/Thai management.

The bar has been refurbished, and looks more open than before.

It opens earlier at day time (12.00?) than WW and TC, the staff is very friendly and the bar has a nice atmosphere. :D

Hopefully, if if it ever stops raining I can get a few baht in the bank you can take me around to all the new places in Ubon. If the rains done stop you will just have to come here. Jim

    Will do Jim! :D

  9. I have been reading many reports about this place, but especially about the "Lady Dragon" and her thai boyfriend attitudes, IMHO, a place which do not have respect for their customers do not deserve any efforts from others to be "saved", as already suggested, the best thing is for the place to change ownership, save your good intention for whom deserve them, honestly!

I myself have never had a problem with the owner, have you ever been in there ? if so and you have read reports i suppose it all depends what attitude you go in there with

    Again, agree with cr ;):D

  10. i have heard that alot of expats go to ryan's resort now in prasat , were the beer in cheap 99B jug of leo, and the food is ist class, but you will always get the penny pinchers anywere you go in thailand.

i dont think i'm allowed to post the link on here just google it ryansresortprasat if your interested.

i go there once a week,so you hardly call me a regular, but when i do i enjoy it.

    dont believe everything you hear

    Agree with cr ;)

  12. just read your blog Jim, and your writing is good!

I'll be down to keep you company one of the days, and will let you know before I come!

  13. .. Does it make any sense to build a bridge to a tiny island for the sake of a few more 3-star hotels? ....

No, once they've done the maths this will be dropped, it makes no sense at all.

My friend, put on your Thai hat. Suspend sense, logic and all of the "educated" stuff you have been brainwashed with in the West. All you need to know is this: if the 3 star hotels/properties are owned by the right persons, they will build a bridge if that is their desire. I used to get severe headaches when I asked the "whys" and "hows"....since I stopped, so have the severe headaches and I am a much happier, laid back person.

    hehe :D

  14. Where's Green mango?

If you are standing on the street looking at Ivan's place, sports bar is to the left and green mango is about 20 metres up the road to the right.

It looks OK and a few people have told me it's OK, I just don't bother with farang places much anymore apart from popping in to say hello to Ivan now and then, so I have not tried it yet.

If you do, let me know what you think.

thanks, remember the place, but haven't been there yet..... :jap:
