  1. I always shop alone !

I always get things cheaper then if my wife was with me.

Thais dont bargain ! I do and it pays off !

So that story i not believe, many say the same, but after 15 years in Thailand had i never seen it yet.

Agreed. My wife gets quite embarrassed when I bargain. Often get things a bit cheaper, and if I don't so what. If I want it I will pay the asking price, nothing lost as long as it's amicable.

    +1 :thumbsup::D

  2. I, for one only can take down such behavior and questioning of such meeting to jealousy.

And yes, it will be not that whole lot different than any other meeting in a bar, in regards, farangs talk about a shared interest of their.

Whoever dont like, dont care, looking for trouble, should just keep things to themselves and find another topic to moan about.

I think the meeting idea is indeed a great one, and maybe more such should be there for similar interest groups, doesnt matter it is car modification, computer programing, sharing travel stories, or farming for that matter!

    Totally agree! Well spoken!

  3. Hi IA

I probably haven't paid enough attention to earlier posts, and I know it's a bit early, but........... any driving directions to your farm?.... :D

    Hi Bergen,

I will send out directions later but from the south, you head through Khukhan on highway 220 and I'm about 12 kms north in a village near Hua Sua.

    OK and thanks IA! :D

  4. Oh & #11 lance's new bar, TJ's, 1ques what's ratchathani asoke?

regards songhklasid.B) (see you'se all nov.)

Your post is a little unclear to me, but I guess you don't know about Ratchathani Asoke?..........

Ratchathani Asoke - a special village

RA is A community within the Asoke Buddhist Movement where many of the vegetarian habitants have taken a stand against materialism and consumerism, and wants to maintain a simple lifestyle through hard work and selflessness.

The Ubon society is to be found on the south side of Moon (Mun) river and to the east of Warin city.

  6. Here we go again.......

You wanted a hotel in central Ubon?

I can not think of any student bars near by! :ermm:

However the prison is next door, N'Joy bar is at the far west end of the street, and there's a "Turkish bath" further up going east. ;)

  7. It takes me an hour to drive to Jim, a bit less than it takes to Sisaket.

We have a fair sized restaurant, bar with pool table, lots of fruit trees, young rubber trees, herbs, flowers, ponds, a river, and more, and it's a nice place to party! :whistling:

Our web site is just updated with lots of new photos, and can be found on my profile. :D

  8. Kudos, IA ;)

    Keep it rolling and positive!!

    Good luck to all!!

Thanks for the encouragement. There have been several discussions on holding an event like this but none of us has taken it any further. My praise goes to AA1 for reviving the idea, and for offering to host number 2.

As a note to all. You dont have to be a farmer to join in. Green fingered gardeners and drivers looking for a new destination are all welcome.

    Hi IA

Count me in as well! I'd like to catch up with some new people! I'm not much of a farmer, but my wife has a Farm Stay, I live on a "small" farm, love watching trees grow, and I guess Jim is looking for a driver?

You need to put some Singhas in the fridge though! :D

  9. Seeing as you seem to be very particular with where you want to stay, why not just arrive and go and have a look at all the ones on your short list. This time of the year there will be vacancies.

Bua Boutique is in an excellent location but is an mutton dressed up as lamb. Nice restaurant though.

    Agree with MeMock,

    Isn't B B former Montana?

No need to book a room, and if you don't have transport, there are lots of metered taxis in Ubon, which can take you all over town, and still the meter will struggle to pass 40 Baht! :D

  10. I settled down in Ubon province 7 years ago (then 49y). My wife (and her family) had land 110 km south of Ubon city, and a 20 mins walk from the Dong Rak mountain range bordering Cambodia.

During these 7 years we've built a small farmstay/resort/fruit farm with a restaurant and some other amenities.

This keeps my wife happy/busy and gives me the freedom to (in between) explore the surroundings. (which I'm allowed to) :whistling:

I have mobile internet, True Vision Satellite tv, a bicycle and a car and usually makes the 1 & 1/2 hr drive to Ubon city a couple of times a month. There I normally stay the night and catch up with friends.

I like the quiet life on the farm, with the possibility to seek action when needed.

Ubon Hash House Harriers (www.ubonhash.com) has a run on the first Saturday of every month, and is one opportunity to socialize, and meet some possible friends! :D

  11. Here's my story...........

I went to Khao Phra Viharn National Park Friday 29th of July, and this was the procedure!

Down at the plain before coming to the park entrance, there is a soldiers post, where you have to stop, exit the car, and the soldiers log your drivers licence, car number, how many people, and take a photo of you!

Then it's a 1 km drive to the park entrance, where it's basically the same procedure, but here you leave your id in exchange for a visitors badge.

Then another 8.5 km drive up hill to the visitors center and car park.

Here on the left hand side you can have a stroll along the Pha Mo I Daeng/Pha Mo E Dang Cliff (both varieties spelled at different signs), - and take some photos (though signs says : NO PHOTO) of the cliff and towards the mountain top where the (Cambodian) temple is located.

The border is not open (and hasn't been for 3 years), so the temple itself is not available, - and so far there are no shops, stalls, or restaurants open on the Thai side.

If you haven't been to the park before, there are some stunning views, and you can brag to your friends, grand children, etc., about having been to a war zone in a pause between rockets and grenades. :D

  12. I've been wondering about Top Charoen as well.

Bought a pair of "Ray Ban" for 5000,- baht in one of the shops in my early days here. :whistling: Didn't last long before the lacquer/colour started to fall off. Obviously selling fakes as everybody else, but better then buy in Big C for 99 Baht.........
