  2. The Constitutional Court has postponed the initial hearing date for the dissolution case of the Move Forward party to July 17. They will await the results from examining the evidence presented by both the party and the Election Commission. The court convened today to scrutinize the evidence put forth by both factions, deciding whether enough proof had been presented to proceed with the case hearings. Following discussions, it was concluded that the court should await a detailed examination of the materials, anticipated to be ready by July 9. As per the unfolding case, the Election Commission has petitioned the Constitutional Court to disband the Move Forward party and bar its executive committee from political participation for the next ten years. According to them, the party attempted to overthrow the constitutional monarchy with its election promise to revise the lèse majesté law—this claim is based on a ruling made by the court on January 31. The Move Forward party refutes this allegation. They argue that the ruling of January 31 is a detached case and as such, cannot influence the decision in their case. He stated that he is dedicated to his duties and is not planning to resign. Gen Torsak Sukvimol and his deputy, Pol Gen Surachate Hakparn, were reassigned to the Prime Minister's office on March 20. This decision was pending an investigation into their apparent disagreements. On the same day, Surachate was placed under investigation by the acting Police Chief, followed by an order to remove him from the force. Although Torsak was reinstated as the National Police Chief last month, the Police Commission upheld the decision to remove Surachate from the force. 6. A young man has vowed to become a monk because he feels guilty for participating in a call center scam that was based abroad. He was tricked into taking a job that turned out to be a scam. He wants to make it right and dedicate merit to the victims of the scam, some of whom took their own lives. He spent eight months in harsh working conditions before managing to return to Thailand. Phim Mai Sakdipatpokin, the Chairman of the Northern Star Foundation, reported that a man named Tonmai, 29, was deceived into working for an overseas call center scam. After getting back to soon with the help of the police, Tonmai decided to become a monk to make amends for the damage done to victims. Tonmai's ordination ceremony took place at the Wihan Daeng district temple in Saraburi province. His parents were present at the ceremony. Tonmai was drawn into the job through a misleading social media ad, which described it as a customer parcel follow-up service. To his surprise, he was moved from an insurance to another department where he was compelled to make calls to victims using their personal information and meet daily targets. He was punished physically if he failed to meet these targets. "I had to succeed in at least three calls a day. In this department, I was expected to connect successfully to seven to ten people every day. If I couldn't, money was cut off." Tonmai said. Tonmai felt deep regret and remorse for his actions, particularly after hearing about victims getting duped into transferring money and some of them even taking their own lives. He was very sorry for his part in the scam and managed to escape and return to Thailand a week ago. "I didn't want to harm anyone, but if I didn't follow orders, they would beat me," said Tonmai. Phim Mai shared that Tonmai reached out to her on social media, expressing deep regret for his actions. She then helped him surrender to the authorities. However, no charges were laid against him as he was also considered a victim. Phim Mai assured him of her willingness to help him. "He asked me to sponsor his monkhood to help the scam victims who were tricked and harmed. I believe it's good that Tonmai has acknowledged his mistakes and is sorry for his actions. Those who have fallen victim to call center scams can reach out to me, I am more than ready to assist," Phim Mai said. 8. In a puzzling event, a newly appointed teacher mysteriously fell to his death from his condo in Huai Khwang, Bangkok on June 30th. The teacher, known as Nat, was scheduled to start his job the following day. His family is suspecting foul play, arguing he had no reason to harm himself. Nat, who recently aced his teacher recruitment exam, plunged from the condo's balcony. His body was found partially undressed, a detail his family found strange and disturbing. Items like a cell phone, a power bank, and cigarettes were found on the apartment's not-so-high balcony, further deepening the mystery around his sudden demise. Security camera footage showed Nat and eight other people, including the owner of the room where the incident happened, returning to the condo, marking the last sighting of the late teacher alive. Nat's family can't reconcile with the thought of him taking his life, especially since he showed excitement about his impending teaching career. Nat's father voiced skepticism about the circumstances of his son's death, as he said that Nat never slept in just his underwear. Besides, Nat's recent exam success made his parents dismiss any idea of him being suicidal. Sun, a close female friend of Nat, was the last person who had a video call with him. She also contests the suicide theory. She reached him three times that night, noticing him appear nervous and unusually paranoid but with no signs of distress about his life. She also noticed that he never approached the balcony during their call, which ran until 3:38 AM. The police are at the scene, questioning Nat's friends and the owner of the condo at Huai Khwang Police Station. The focus of the investigation is the balcony area, and the police are awaiting forensic evidence to determine if there's a possibility that Nat was pushed off the balcony. Fingerprints and other evidence will be vital in this regard. 10. Five senior officers from Bang Yi Khan Police Station have been dismissed by Bangkok police after an illegal gambling den was found near a well-known mall in Pin Klao. The action comes after police made arrests following reports of illegal gambling in the area. On July 2, Chaiyaphon Aekkul, the Deputy Commander of Metropolitan Police Bureau Region 7, set up an investigative committee after social media reports flagged the gambling activity. The arrests, which occurred at 2pm, involved officers from the local police station and officials from the Ministry of Interior. An investigation committee, headed by Deputy Commander Sitthimeswari Siwakup Sri Kruthanon, has been assigned to look into the matter following police guidelines and procedures. The four-member committee's findings will be processed for further actions. Chaiyaphon also signed an order for the transfer of police officers from the Bang Yi Khan Police Station to the Operations Centre of Metropolitan Police Bureau Region 7. This is to ease the investigation process and retain operational efficiency. The transferred officers include Chief Payap Sombun, Deputy Chiefs Somsak Kerdsang and Chakorn Premruderlert, Investigation Inspector Mangkorn Panthurasri, and Patrol Inspector Banthao Chumplang. CCTV footage from Praewa Gift Shop in Thang Kwian Subdistrict, Klaeng District, Rayong, recorded the incident happening on July 2 at around 1pm. A motorcyclist witnessed a truck hit a parked blue motorbike and run away. The unidentified rider chased the truck, compelling the driver to return and accept the damage caused, which reaped praises from the residents. 16. A 77 year old man was arrested for transporting drugs for a Laotian network, with police seizing 288,000 methamphetamine pills. Police disclosed the man was paid to deliver the drugs, which were bought for 5 baht per pill and sold for 20 baht each. Police in Amnat Charoen, northeast Thailand announced the arrest of Atthapol Wanthaprom, who was found in possession of a significant quantity of meth pills. The arrest took place following a tip-off that a drug delivery would occur on a road near the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives branch in Huai Rai, leading to Ban Phakdi Charoen in Mueang District. Officers observed a suspicious vehicle matching the provided description and searched. Officers discovered two large fertiliser sacks in the back of a green Nissan pickup truck with the registration plate บต 1649 Amnat Charoen. The sacks, which were concealed under a cloth, contained 144 bundles of meth pills. Police also confiscated a mobile phone found in the vehicle. Atthapol confessed to being hired by a Laotian individual to transport the drugs to designated customers. He revealed that the cost price of the meth in this shipment was 5 baht per pill. The agents then resell the pills to customers for 20 baht per pill, although the price could vary depending on the quantity purchased. “I was just delivering the drugs as per the instructions I received.” The profitability of this illegal trade was highlighted by the stark difference between the purchase and resale prices, illustrating the substantial markup that traffickers earn. The arrest was part of a coordinated effort by regional law enforcement to clamp down on drug trafficking networks operating across borders, reported KhaoSod. 18. A finance officer experienced a shocking incident when a repossessed car he was towing suddenly caught fire and was completely destroyed by the blaze. The incident occurred yesterday, July 2, at 2.40pm on Mittraphap Road, inbound to Pak Chong, in the Klang Dong area of Nakhon Ratchasima. An investigator at Klang Dong Police Station, Police Lieutenant Colonel Auaychai Phromwong, received the fire report and coordinated with Si Mamonkol Municipality fire trucks and rescue teams, as well as highway police officers, to inspect the scene. Upon arrival, officials found a Honda sedan engulfed in flames and smoke. Firefighters quickly deployed foam and water to extinguish the fire, taking approximately 20 minutes to bring it under control. The car was completely destroyed by the blaze. A representative from a finance company, Rewat Khunnok explained that the vehicle had been repossessed from a customer who defaulted on their loan due to economic hardships. The customer had taken the car to arrange urgent financing but still was unable to continue with the payments. Rewat was tasked with collecting the car from a house in Pa Sak, Klang Dong. Rewat recounted that after towing the repossessed car for approximately 4 kilometres along Mittraphap Road, the vehicle started to overheat. He stopped briefly before continuing once again, leaving the key in the ignition to maintain the hazard lights. After towing the vehicle for another 5 kilometres, the car suddenly caught fire. Rewat immediately stopped, unhooked the tow chain, and moved away from the burning vehicle. He suggested that the fire likely resulted from overheating and a subsequent malfunction in the car’s systems. Lt. Col. Auaychai confirmed that there were no other parties involved and no public property was damaged. The burnt vehicle was promptly removed from the traffic lane to ensure the road was clear for regular use by the public, reported KhaoSod. 20. A woman in Udon Thani urgently sought police help after her ex-brother-in-law, exhibiting delusional and violent behaviour due to drug abuse, attempted to abduct her daughter for a ritual sacrifice and vandalised her property. Today, July 3, 46 year old Nok, reported to Udon Thani City Police Station, asking for the arrest of 40 year old Ae, her former brother-in-law. Ae had damaged and stolen a CCTV camera from her home, claiming it was a divine eye watching him. The incident took place yesterday, July 2 at 12.49am. Ae, under the influence of drugs, had previously attempted to throw Nok’s 12 year old daughter into a fire for a supposed sacrifice, but the girl’s mother intervened in time. Fearing further incidents, Nok appealed for immediate police intervention. The police have recorded the complaint and will coordinate with the investigative unit to track Ae down. Reporters visited the scene at a house in Mak Khaeng Subdistrict, where Nok showed the damaged CCTV camera and explained Ae’s actions. Ae allegedly used a knife to destroy the camera, believing it was a divine eye spying on him. Further inspection revealed damage to Nok’s sister’s house, where Ae had destroyed various items, including glass, metal bars, and household items. Nok showed the kitchen where Ae had cut through a zinc panel to break into the house, intending to abduct her daughter again. Violent behaviour Nok recounted that no one heard anything during the night of the incident because everyone was asleep. The next morning, her daughter discovered the missing CCTV camera and alerted her father, who found that Ae had destroyed it. A had a history of threatening and harassing Nok’s sister since their divorce a year ago. Nok expressed fear as the house mainly consists of women, and children used to play outside but are now scared. She urged the police to take legal action against Ae for public safety. Reporters then visited Ae’s house, which was found locked and empty. However, Ae’s 63 year old mother, who lives nearby, shared that Ae turned to drug abuse after overcoming alcohol addiction. His violent behaviour escalated, leading to frequent domestic disputes and property damage, causing his wife to leave him. Ae’s mother expressed concern for his rehabilitation. In a separate interview, Nok’s sister and Ae’s ex-wife, 37 year old B, recounted their distressing experiences. B had filed multiple complaints at Udon Thani City Police Station, accusing Ae of property damage, threats, and physical assault. Despite her efforts, police action seemed ineffective. Ae demanded 200,000 baht (US$5,430) as a divorce settlement, threatening further violence if not paid. His severe drug addiction was the main reason for their separation. B recalled an incident in February when Ae, under heavy drug influence, tried to throw their daughter into a fire, claiming it was for a sacrifice. She managed to save her daughter just in time. B now lives in constant fear of Ae abducting their daughter again and urged the police to take decisive action. If unresolved, she plans to seek help from foundations and social activists, reported KhaoSod. B’s daughter, who narrowly escaped the attempted sacrifice, shared her fear, recalling how her father tried to carry her to the fire before her mother intervened. She remains terrified of her father returning to harm her again. By Bright Choomanee Picture courtesy of KhaoSod Source: The Thaiger 2024-07-03 Get our Daily Newsletter - Click HERE to subscribe

  22. A Thai woman narrowly escaped being sexually assaulted by a drug addict in a petrol station bathroom in the Isaan province of Khon Kaen. The suspect was identified after he was arrested for drug use by another police team. The story was shared on social media platforms to warn others, especially women, who use public bathrooms at petrol stations and other places. According to the post, the incident took place at about 10pm on June 30 at a petrol station near Ratchaphruek Hospital on the Friendship Highway in Khon Kaen. The victim was using the toilet when the man, later identified as 31 year old Kanha, climbed into her toilet cubicle from another cubicle. Kanha threatened the victim with a Stanley knife. He grabbed the woman’s arm and ordered her to keep quiet. Kanha then took off his trousers and attempted to sexually assault the woman. The woman managed to wrench her arm free from Kanha and scream for help. The victim suffered an injury to her arm as she escaped from the suspect. Kanha reportedly abandoned the knife in the bathroom and fled the scene on his white and blue Yamaha Fino motorcycle. The woman filed a complaint with Mueang Khon Kaen Police Station, prompting officers to review security cameras at the scene. Kanha was clearly seen in the footage as the petrol station had more than 10 cameras installed. Arrested after massage Kanha was seen parking his motorcycle at the petrol station, going to a convenience store, and then entering the bathroom where the incident took place. While Mueang Khon Kaen Police officers were working to identify the suspect, officers received a report from Ban Ped Police Station yesterday that they had just arrested the drug-addicted suspect named Kanha and suspected that he was also wanted for the attempted sexual assault. Kanha was arrested by Ban Ped Police Station officers after a worker at a massage shop reported to police that Kanha, who came for a two-hour massage, looked like a drug addict. Officers rushed to arrest Kanha and tested him for drugs. The test result confirmed that he had methamphetamine, also known as Yaba, in his system. Mueang Khon Kaen Police officers checked Kanha’s identity and confirmed that he was the suspect in this case. Officers then took Kanha to the scene of the incident for a reenactment. Kanha confessed that he had taken four tablets of Yaba before committing the crime. Officers allowed Kanha to return home to confess everything to his wife, who was shocked by her husband’s behaviour. The legal charges issued against Kanha have not yet been made public.
