A police report reveals that in November 2023, they had arrested a group of call center fraudsters who had supposedly set up fake CIB websites to deceive people. Following further investigations, the authorities arrested an additional five individuals including a Chinese man, only known as Mr. Chen, along with four Thai nationals. They were suspected of money laundering and membership in an international criminal gang involved in phone scams.
Reports indicated that Mr. Chen had an elite visa, which granted him a five-year stay in Thailand. However, it was alleged that he was operating illegal enterprises. The Thai police also seized assets worth over 53 million baht ($1.6 million) from him, to be used as evidence in the court proceedings.
The scamming ring was reportedly based in Cambodia, with an estimated 70 billion baht ($2.1 billion) in funds. More than 30 complaints related to this gang were filed by victims, according to police reports.

A Thai man is on the run after he killed his neighbor in a condominium in Nonthaburi province, near Bangkok. The reason for the murder is still being looked into, but it is believed to be due to an argument over their pet dogs.
Police from Rattanathibet station were called to the Seriphap Condominium after reports of a shooting. They found the victim, a 45-year-old Thai man named Kongchai Rodkhai, dead in a ninth-floor corridor. He had several gunshot wounds.
Kongchai was found in a grey T-shirt and blue shorts. His face had two gunshot wounds and his left arm had one. Three bullet casings were found at the crime scene.
Security camera footage helped police identify the killer. Kongchai was about to enter his apartment when another man, his face covered by a ski mask, walked up and shot him multiple times until he fell to the floor. The assailant then left the building on a motorcycle.
The suspected shooter was identified as 47-year-old Narin Prinkprayong, Kongchai's neighbor. He is currently on the run and the reason for the murder is still under police investigation. Narin’s wife told the police that her husband and Kongchai had been arguing over their dogs' behavior for more than a year.
She said Kongchai didn't like the noise from Narin's dog scratching the wall and Narin was annoyed by Kongchai's dog barking a lot. A heated argument had occurred shortly before the murder.
Narin's wife also told police she didn't know how her husband got the gun used in the shooting, and that she hasn't been able to reach him since the incident. She mentioned that Narin had been fighting depression and was taking medicine.
Police are now going through more CCTV footage to try and find out which way Narin might have escaped.

In Pattaya, a late-night fight outside a street food stall turned violent when a heavily intoxicated woman verbally insulted a customer, leading to a physical altercation that left her badly injured.
The incident happened late last night on Soi Sukhumvit Pattaya 91 and was reported to the Sawang Boriboon Tharm Satharn Rescue Center, who quickly sent a team to help the victim.
When the emergency responders arrived at the scene, they found the 28-year-old woman, Wilailak, lying on the ground in pain, with a head injury. After giving her first aid, the rescue team and medical staff swiftly transported her to Pattaya City Hospital for further treatment.
Prakong, the 63-year-old eatery owner, recounted what led to the attack. She said that Wilailak, who works at a nearby car repair shop, came to the restaurant drunk and started to make a scene.
The situation got worse when Wilailak started insulting a male diner's parents which led him to physically retaliate, knocking her to the ground. She then began to foam at the mouth. After the fight, the man left and the authorities were called for help.
One of Wilailak's co-workers, known as Uncle Dam, said that she was known for drinking heavily after work and that this often resulted in erratic behavior and verbal outbursts towards various people, including her boss.
While most people typically ignored her behavior out of sympathy, advising her to sleep it off, her decision to provoke others eventually led to the violent altercation that happened last night, according to the Khaosod report.
This unfortunate event involving Wilailak serves as a strong reminder of the negative consequences of excessive drinking and public disturbances. It also highlights the importance of responsible alcohol consumption and the potential dangers of aggressive behavior while under the influence.

A local Facebook page, Esor News, reported the incident on April 28. They disclosed that the deputy governor, who resided with his male partner, was removed from his position pending an investigation. The social media page posted a document showing the transfer of the official but concealed the person's name. The deputy governor was moved to the Office of The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior on April 24 until further notice.
After the accusations went public on Thai social media, the adopted son came forward. He identified himself as the adopted son of the deputy governor, Anan Boonsamran. Apparently, Boonsamran adopted him in 2015 after his biological father died in an insurgency attack.
The adopted son negated claims of a romantic relationship between him and the deputy governor. Instead, he insisted that the videos that went viral were merely indicative of a close father-son relationship. Kissing someone's hand and both cheeks, as shown in the video, is a Muslim tradition to show respect. He further denied any romantic involvement, citing his commitment to Islam, which prohibits same-sex relations.
In the same vein, he denied assaulting the deputy governor's wife and presented a screenshot of a conversation with her that showed they were still in contact. The accused party and related legal authorities remain silent on these claims.

Before retiring, Maris Sangiampongsa served as Thailand's ambassador to Canada. His extensive diplomatic experience includes roles as ambassador to Australia, Fiji, and Nepal, as well as being an advisor to former Foreign Minister Parnpree.
Maris Sangiampongsa had earlier worked closely with Thaksin Shinawatra over ten years ago, when he was deployed to the Government House by the Foreign Ministry during Thaksin's tenure as prime minister.
Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin recently expressed his regret over Parnpree's removal from the position of deputy prime minister. He mentioned that such adjustments are common during cabinet reshuffles, resulting in both pleased and disappointed parties. However, he respected Parnpree's decision to leave the cabinet.
The prime minister stated that he holds no personal vendetta against Parnpree and that the reshuffle aimed to enhance the overall performance of the government.
While the appointment of the new foreign minister has not yet been officially announced, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin hinted that a former diplomat will fill the role. In the meantime, Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Phumtham Wechayachai will be in charge of the Foreign Ministry.

The Phuket Light Rail Project Considered a 35 Billion Baht Waste
Despite huge expenditure and the potential for massive disruption over its 3-5 year construction period, the Thai cabinet continues to support the Phuket light rail project. The proposed tram route would start at Phuket International Airport and end near the Chalong Circle, bypassing key tourist destinations and primarily serving locals who could afford the daily fares. Thai Transport Minister, Suriya Juangroongruangkit, re-introduced the project with the promise of opening it to passengers by 2031.
However, there are doubts regarding the project's completion, given its failure to start in 2020 as projected by the MRTA. Interestingly, initial operational projections have since been adjusted from 2023 to 2031. The planned light rail route, which does not cater to Phuket's tourism industry, accounting for 95% of the island's business, has further raised eyebrows.
Running this project through already congested routes like Thepkasattri Road and then Chao Fah East Road, which barely have a centre-strip, is also a concern. While the fares estimated by the MRTA ranged between 100 – 137 baht, many locals may still opt for motorbikes due to both affordability and point-to-point delivery.
Additionally, a lack of convenience is another deterrent, as commuters would need additional transport to get to and from the station. Given the project’s focus on servicing locals in the main trunk from Thalang to Phuket Town, and then Chao Fah East to Chalong, tourist hotspots along the west coast are completely overlooked.
Moreover, the construction phase is expected to cause severe traffic disruptions, with lane closures along busy roads. Space constraints are another issue; accommodating tram tracks, 21 stations, and overhead walkways will be challenging.
Despite necessary transport reform in Phuket due to increasing road usage, this project fails to address current problems. The sizeable 35 billion baht investment seems misplaced and offers a solution neither tourists nor locals are expected to use. Hence, questions are being raised about the necessity of the project.

Voice TV is owned by the family of ex-Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who is considered the founder of the reigning Pheu Thai Party. In February of last year, Thaksin's children transferred all their shares in Voice TV to Bhanapot Damapong, their uncle.
Some experts suggest that the channel's closure is not solely due to financial reasons, considering its survival despite years of losing money. They believe that the closure is probable now that the Shinawatra family's Pheu Thai Party has reclaimed political power and consequently does not require its own media outlet. There is speculation that Thaksin and his family have decided to close down Voice TV because its public influence is decreasing.
Thaksin's son, Panthongtae, established Voice TV in 2003 while Thaksin's Thai Rak Thai government was in power. Voice TV's services were discontinued several times during the rule of the post-coup military government because it aired contentious content. In 2019, the broadcaster stopped digital TV broadcasts due to financial problems but resumed operations via satellite and live streaming on online platforms like Facebook and YouTube.

The governor of Uthai Thani province has launched an investigation to uncover those responsible for a field fire that led to a two-hour power outage. The fire, which started in a harvested rice field and grassland in Muang district, quickly got out of control.
Over 300 firefighters and Provincial Electricity Authority officials rushed to combat the fire which spread across 16 hectares of land along Highway 333 in Ban Chaksa village, in the Sakae Krang sub-district. The fire went dangerously close to an electricity pylon, causing an automated power cut and the ensuing blackout across the province.
Firefighters had the blaze under control by approximately 9.30 pm last night. However, fire trucks and personnel stayed behind to ensure the still-smoking grassland did not start another fire.
During the fire, there was thick smoke that reduced visibility for those driving on the highway. Emergency workers were deployed to manage traffic.
The owner of the rice field will be questioned today in connection with the incident. The governor has pledged to take legal action due to the damage caused by the blackout.

A man from Thailand died after his motorcycle crashed into a bridge railing in Chonburi.
The fatal accident happened at about 4:30 AM on Monday, April 29, 2024. The Samet Police were alerted and they sent officers and emergency rescue teams to the bridge in the Samet part of the Mueang district, in Chonburi region.
The dead man, only identified as Mr. Kriangkrai, was found lying on the road with severe head and arm wounds. He was quickly declared dead at the location by emergency medical staff. His red and black Honda CBR motorbike was found nearby, along with a shattered motorcycle helmet.
Mr. Koravin, a friend who was riding on a separate bike near Mr. Kriangkrai when the accident happened, said they had been out sightseeing around 4 AM. He said that the accident occurred when Mr. Kriangkrai was riding home and lost control of his bike on a bend.
The police are looking into what caused the accident and are encouraging bikers to exercise caution and not exceed the speed limit.

Despite being 79, at an age when many are enjoying retirement, Mr. Wichai Kaewinthrathi, known as Uncle Wichai, is a familiar face on Pattaya’s Jomtien Beach. He brightens peoples' days by selling traditional Isaan music and instruments.
Uncle Wichai, originally from the peaceful town of Na Wa in northeastern Thailand's Nakhon Phanom province, has spent over four decades in Pattaya dealing in traditional Isaan musical instruments. His range of products includes khaen (mouth organs), pin (lutes), and vot.
Each day, Uncle Wichai takes his instruments along the long stretch of Jomtien Beach. The melodies he plays on the khaen never fail to attract people walking by. Both Thai locals and foreign tourists often stop to appreciate the music and admire the craftsmanship of his instruments. As the day ends, Uncle Wichai moves to South Pattaya to continue his musical activities late into the evening.
In an interview with local reporters, Uncle Wichai shared that each of his instruments is carefully crafted from bamboo and they carry the rich cultural heritage of his homeland, the Isaan province. Some of the instruments are made by his wife, and he is particularly skilled at playing the khaen. The instruments are for sale, with prices ranging from a few hundred to a thousand baht.
For Uncle Wichai, selling the instruments is more than just a way to make a living. It's a way of sharing his musical passion with the world. Uncle Wichai’s story stands as an inspiration that age is merely a number.

A nine-year-old boy from Thailand, fondly known as "Nong Che," has taken the internet by storm with his impressive dance skills. He demonstrated his prowess alongside local popular singer, Longan Hai Thongkham, and her dance team at Pholview Restaurant in Ratchaburi Province. Since then, a video recording of his performance has quickly gone viral on social media.
Nong Che, real name Jomphon Eakchin, began dancing when he was just a year old. His 43-year-old mother, Kamonporn Deebut, noticed his affinity for dance when he started mimicking the "Hey Hey" chants from the song Phu Sao Kha Lao by Longan even though he could barely talk; his dancing hasn’t stopped since then. His family, including his father and relatives, have always supported his passion by cheering him on during school events and other performances.
Fueled by his love for popular Thai singer Pumpuang Duangjan's songs, Nong Che has also become a devoted fan of Longan Hai Thongkham. His family helped him fulfill his dream of meeting Longan by arranging a visit to her performance at Pholview Restaurant, where his dance video was recorded.
When faced with a flat tire, the family's determination wasn't dampened as they fixed their vehicle, landing at the venue by 10pm. Nong Che stood out from the crowd and caught Longan's attention despite sitting away from the stage. The young dancer's perfect replication of the dance moves earned him a spot on the stage, much to the delight of the crowd and Longan herself. His mother and aunt shared the captivating moment through a video which has since gone viral.
Nong Che's overnight fame has invited interviews and lots of media attention. His parents and relatives are happy to support his dream of becoming an artist. The young boy, who also admires artists like Ja Arsiam and Lisa from BLACKPINK, is looking forward to meeting them someday.
The talented boy has been invited to perform with Longan and her dance troupe on May 27, at 9pm at the Pholview Restaurant in Bangkok. According to a report this could be a significant step towards realizing his dream.

Newly Hired Civil Servants to Receive Pay Increase
in Thailand News

BANGKOK, April 30 (TNA) – Starting tomorrow, new civil servants can expect a salary increase, and there will also be adjustments to the minimum pension rates.
Deputy Government Spokesperson, Radklao Inthawong Suwankiri, announced that this pay change, which was agreed upon by the Cabinet last November, will take effect from May 1.
The goal is to guarantee that those in positions that require a bachelor's degree earn at least 18,000 baht monthly, while those with vocational certificates should earn no less than 11,000 baht within two years.
Along with meeting the needs of new civil servants, the government is also paying attention to the welfare of retired civil servants. If a retiree's pension, combined with expense assistance for living, is less than 11,000 baht per month, they will receive an increase in their living expense assistance. This increase reflects the specified rates to match rising living costs.
