  7. A 20 year old man suffered a fractured skull after colliding with a water pump pipe in the middle of the road while riding his motorcycle in the early morning hours. The water pump accident took place yesterday. It was revealed that the water pump pipe was installed by the Wang Sala Subdistrict Municipality, in west Thailand. On the following day, at the Wang Sala Subdistrict Municipality Office in Tha Mueang District, Kanchanaburi Province, Wisut Wonpian, the mayor of Wang Sala Subdistrict, disclosed that the water pump was indeed municipal property. It was installed in response to residents’ complaints about flooding in their homes. The municipality used the water pump to drain water from the affected homes into a public canal. After the drainage operation was completed in the evening, the officials responsible for the water pump removed the warning sign but did not relocate the pump because it was a public holiday, and the pump was large enough to require a truck for its removal. As a result, the pump remained at the accident spot, leading to the unfortunate accident involving a non-resident, named Phuthanet, who was passing through the area on his motorcycle. 11. A tragic fatal stabbing unfolded recently, resulting in the death of a newlywed man, stabbed by a former computer teacher during a traditional ceremony. The police have now issued a warrant for the assailant’s arrest and identified his escape route. The 44 year old man, Ratchaphon used a knife to attack 25 year old Danuporn in the chest, causing a lethal wound near his heart. The unfortunate fatal stabbing took place during a bone blessing ceremony in a village in Lam Plai Mat, Buriram Province, where Danuporn had recently moved after his wedding just five months prior. Ratchaphon then fled the scene in a Mazda pickup truck, license plate number BM9512 Buriram. Danuporn’s family performed a spirit-calling ceremony at the scene of the incident according to local customs. The atmosphere was filled with grief, especially for 54 year old Sai Thong, the mother of the deceased. She requested through the media that the police do not need to bring the killer to her if they apprehend him, fearing a violent reaction from her family who are still unable to accept Ratchaphon’s actions. Danuporn’s widow, 21 year old Tawan, is still unable to come to terms with the reality of her husband’s sudden demise. She spent the entire night crying, especially because her husband was new to the village and was unfamiliar with everyone, including Ratchaphon. 15. The family of a teenage girl called on the police to advance their investigation and arrest a minibus driver who allegedly drugged and raped the 13 year old. Channel 3 visited the victim’s house in the Waeng Noi district in the Isaan province of Khon Kaen yesterday, November 5, to interview the teenager’s family about the incident. The victim’s 40 year old father, named A, said that he wanted his daughter to come and stay with him and his wife in Bangkok during the school holiday and booked a minibus for her to travel to the capital on Sunday, October 1. A explained that the minibus was supposed to arrive at their home in the early hours of October 2. However, when his daughter did not arrive as expected, he tried to call her but she did not answer the phone. A thought his daughter must have fallen asleep in the car and called the minibus driver instead. The driver claimed that there was traffic and roadworks on the way and that was the reason for being late. His daughter arrived later at lunchtime. A noticed that she appeared unusually quiet, attributing it to exhaustion from the journey, so he allowed her to rest. A explained that when he had contacted the same driver to take his daughter back to Khon Kaen, the girl was crying and panicking when she met the driver. She still hugged her mother and refused to leave. A said he was not suspicious at the time because he thought the daughter just wanted to stay with him longer. On the return to Khon Kaen, his 16 year old son, the victim’s brother, went with her. 17. A 49 year old woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the Bang Pakong district, Chachoengsao, early today. The body was discovered on Thepparat Road’s Bangkok-bound side, beneath the elevated Burapha Withi expressway and opposite the Talad Lao fresh market, with the local police receiving the report around 2.30am. The woman, a resident of Bangkok’s Lat Krabang district, showed no indications of a physical attack. However, she had a broken leg and exhibited bleeding from her ears, mouth, and nose. The details of her death remain unclear, with an autopsy report from the Police General Hospital anticipated to shed light on the cause. Adding to the mystery, a silver MG car was located on the expressway directly above the spot where the woman’s body was found. The vehicle’s hazard lights were on, the sunroof was open, and distinct marks, seemingly from the car, were present on the expressway guardrail, although the car’s doors were closed. This perplexing scene has led the police to commence a thorough investigation into the incident. The authorities are piecing together the sequence of events leading to the woman’s death, with the car’s presence forming a crucial part of the mysterious death investigation. 19. The government of Thailand is pushing for a dual-track approach to vehicle manufacturing, fostering the production of both internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and battery electric vehicles (BEVs). Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin stated his desire for Thailand to be a significant centre of ICE production, even as the nation aims to become a hub for BEV manufacturing. He is due to clarify this dual support for ICE and BEV production with Japanese authorities in December. The government’s support of ICE vehicles is rational due to the time required for a global shift towards electric vehicles. Thailand is a major hub for pickup production, many of which are exported to developing countries. However, these need to be ICE vehicles due to the limited battery technology for electric pickups. The government is also planning to support vehicles with low emissions, in line with Euro 6 standards, and those using safe driving technology. The country aims to reduce carbon emissions, with a new automobile excise tax structure set to be introduced in 2026. However, the transition to electric or other clean energy vehicles is estimated to take around 30 years, with demand for ICE cars and auto parts expected to continue during this period. This allows the automotive component industry in the country to maintain business opportunities in the global market and sustain income from exports. 21. The Commerce Ministry of Thailand announced today that the country’s inflation rate has dipped for the first time in 25 months, primarily due to a drop in energy and food prices. This development is attributed to the government’s support measures. The consumer price index (CPI) noted a 0.31% reduction in October, compared to the same period last year. This contrasted with a 0.3% year-on-year increase in the previous month. The data matched the forecasted 0.0% for October, as predicted in a Reuters poll. Meanwhile, the core CPI for October escalated by 0.66% from the same period last year. Interestingly, the headline inflation remained below the central bank’s target range of 1% to 3% for six months in succession. The first ten months of the year saw the headline CPI rise by an average of 1.60% from the same period a year earlier, while the core CPI increased by 1.41%. Despite these numbers, the ministry maintains its projection for the headline inflation ranging between 1.0% and 1.7% for this year. In an unforeseen move in September, the Bank of Thailand’s monetary policy committee escalated the key interest rate by a quarter point to 2.50%, marking the highest in the past decade. The committee justified this hike stating that they expect growth and inflation rate to surge in the coming year. 23. A Thai woman has taken to social media to confess that she is HIV-positive and engaged in a number of one-night stands with men she met in entertainment venues over the past seven months. The woman told the public that she felt guilty for what she had done and wanted every man who had sex with her during that time to know the truth and get a health check. “I debated myself whether or not to speak out and decided to speak out. I am now in my second year of university and started partying in April this year as a coping mechanism for a broken heart. I engaged in one-night stands each time I went out, and what haunts me is the fact that I’ve been living with HIV since birth. “I feel sorry for the men who had sex with me. Please forgive me. I want to escape somewhere far away. I want to become a monk. I wish to withdraw from the world.” The woman explained that these men would have wives and children in the future and she did not want to pass HIV on to them. She said she was always on medication but drank a lot of alcohol, which made her symptoms worse. She could no longer drink alcohol because of her condition. She promised never to do it again and to concentrate on her studies. 25. In a daring crackdown on timber thieves’ crime, Thai police stormed a deforestation gang’s hideout in central Thailand, arresting one woman while four suspects managed to escape. The operation followed the discovery of illegal wood logs valued at approximately 33 million baht hidden in a warehouse in Phetchabun by officials from the Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation. Panatchakorn Potibandit, director of the preventive and suppression strategy unit at the Forest Protection and Fire Control Office, revealed that a team of specialised rangers carried out the warehouse raid to arrest the timber thieves. Their search unveiled a cache of 30 Narra logs, with nine of them traced back to the forest reserve of Phu Soi Dao National Park in Uttaradit province. Alongside the Narra logs, officials also uncovered 50 pieces of Burmese rosewood timber, 51 Burmese rosewood logs, and 59 more Narra timbers. It is believed that these valuable illicit wood resources, collectively worth 33 million baht, were the ill-gotten gains of a timber thieves gang. Their cunning strategy involved hoarding the wood in the warehouse before attempting to smuggle it to neighbouring countries. To bring the timber thieves to justice, officials swiftly filed a report against the owner of the warehouse, and an extensive investigation is currently underway to track down the associates of this unlawful operation.
