  2. A Thai man put his Bangkok condo room up for sale at a low price to force his interfering mother to move out. He says he can’t personally use the condo because his mother refuses to leave. The Thai man announced the sale on a Facebook group on October 26. The condominium is situated within the HR Residence project, which is conveniently located opposite The Mall Bang Kapi shopping centre in Bangkok’s Bang Kapi district. While the current market value for a Bangkok condo room typically falls within the range of 300,000 to 400,000 baht, the Thai man is offering it at a discounted rate of 240,000 baht. Additionally, he has expressed his willingness to cover a 10,000 baht transfer fee for the prospective buyer. The Thai man elaborated on the rationale behind this surprising Bangkok condo offer in his post. “I acquired the room legally from a bank. There is nothing illegal about the sale. I just want to end the whole burden. My mother is currently occupying the property, even though she has her own residence nearby. I am her son, so there is not much I can do. I am selling it at a low price so that the buyer can use the discount to evict my mother instead.” By Petch Petpailin Caption: Photo via Matichon Full story: The Thaiger 2023-11-01 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. The gang members, posing as fake cops and officials from the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), threatened the grade C7 female public servant with involvement in a mass murder case and demanded to inspect her bank account. At 10.30am today, at the Central Investigation Bureau (RTP), Thamanun Tangtim, also known as Ja Kings Saphan Mai, escorted the alleged victim, referred to as A (pseudonym), who works under the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, to meet with Deputy Detective Chaiyachit Kemkasit, the Fourth Investigation Division Commander. A sought help after the scam gang, pretending to be Chiang Mai police officers, deceived her into transferring almost 800,000 baht (US$22,000). The Thai woman said that on October 17, someone called her, claiming to be a Chiang Mai police officer and ONCB official. They informed her that her financial transactions were linked to a suspect in a mass murder case, and she needed to check her bank account. If she refused, the fake cops threatened to proceed with the case. Therefore, firms in this sector require robust support in innovation and technological development. The NSTDA is committed to transforming lab research into commercial products, thereby stimulating the country’s economic growth. Chukit highlighted the crucial role played by the Food Service Platform for Food and Functional Ingredients (Food SERP) managed by NSTDA, in supporting both the food and cosmetics industries. 14. Thai television phenomenon Phrom Likhit, a sequel to the hit series Buppesannivas, has reignited interest in Thailand’s ancient laws. The series introduces a new character, Mae Klin, who frequently quarrels with the show’s protagonist, Mae Pudtan. These verbal exchanges have led to a renewed curiosity about how Thailand’s archaic laws would handle such disputes, including the infliction of verbal and physical harm. Phrom Likhit continues to engage audiences with its heated and dramatic storylines. Particularly notable is the introduction of Mae Klin, a character performed by actress Namtan-Pichukkana, who excels in her role as a villain. She frequently clashes with Mae Pudtan, a character brought to life by Bella-Ranee Campen. Their verbal sparring matches provide much of the series’ entertainment. Despite numerous verbal confrontations between the two characters, no physical altercations have occurred. However, Thailand’s ancient laws offer clear guidance on how such situations should be handled. The old Thai law, known as Prayaiyakarn Lakkan Wiwat Datee Kan, which covers disputes, verbal harm, and physical harm, explicitly outlines the penalties for these offences. It is often treated as “normal” and an “insignificant” problem, according to the opinions shared by women’s and children’s rights advocates at a recent forum on “Sexual Harassment, Politicians and Power.” Thararat Panya, a veteran campaigner for gender equality, said that it is a well-known fact that sexual harassment has been widespread in Thai society for a long time, the problem has not been taken seriously by the authorities and, in most cases, has been settled through compromise, with most victims not being treated fairly. As such, most victims are reluctant to disclose what happened or do not tell the police the whole truth about how they were sexually harassed, resulting in their cases being weak and their tormentors escaping unpunished, she claimed. 21. 22. BANGKOK (NNT) - As the world is preparing for measures to counter global warming, the Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI) advocates for the government to swiftly implement carbon taxes. The move is expected to foster new trade opportunities and encourage both public and private sectors to adapt to new market conditions. At the TDRI annual seminar for 2023, the institute’s president, Somkiat Tangkijvanich, stated that Thailand faces trade and investment restrictions, particularly from the European Union’s upcoming Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). This policy is expected to affect the import of specific heavy industrial goods and may expand to other products in the future. The regulations will have a direct impact on Thailand’s economy, especially affecting the private sector in trade, investment, and exports. The government is advised to promptly develop a clear strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. TDRI suggests a dual-system carbon tax, comprising a tax on exported goods and an energy carbon tax. The initiative is expected to generate approximately 30 billion Baht in annual revenue for the government. The funds should be allocated to a dedicated account aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to changing climate conditions, supporting both production sectors and the public. 23. Bank of Thailand Optimistic About Q3 Growth as Tourism Recovers BANGKOK (NNT) - The Bank of Thailand (BOT) holds an optimistic outlook for the country’s economic growth in the third quarter, expecting improvements compared to the previous quarter. 24. BANGKOK (NNT) - The Bank of Thailand (BOT) holds an optimistic outlook for the country’s economic growth in the third quarter, expecting improvements compared to the previous quarter. The Thai economy continued to expand during this period, primarily driven by increased private consumption and a recovery in the service sector, supported by a growing number of domestic and international tourists. According to the BOT, merchandise exports, excluding gold, showed a slight increase in the third quarter. This growth was attributed to notable contributions from the automobile and petroleum sectors, aligning with increased activities in the manufacturing sector. Other sectors that performed well included jewelry, agricultural products, and agro-manufacturing. However, the bank reported a decline in private investment due to reduced investments in machinery and equipment compared to the previous period. Public spending also contracted, both in terms of current and capital expenditures. Thailand welcomed 20 million foreign tourists from January to September this year. In September, there was a notable increase in the number of tourist arrivals, especially from countries like South Korea and India, which enjoyed extended public holidays. The Middle East and Europe also saw an increase in travelers compared to the previous month. Additionally, Chinese tourists benefited from a visa exemption scheme introduced towards the end of the month. Tourist expenditures continued to rise, reflecting the higher number of visitors and increased occupancy rates. However, it’s worth noting that a recent incident at a Bangkok shopping mall could slightly affect tourist sentiment and confidence. Nonetheless, the government’s free visa policies and seasonal tourism trends are expected to help mitigate some of this impact.
