  8. A concerned Thai mother urged Channel 3 to publicise the disturbing behaviour of a Chinese couple after she accused them of causing chaos and damage to her daughter’s house in Soi Chalerm Prakiat 28 in the Prawet district of Bangkok. The mother, Arporn, told the media that her daughter had lived alone in the house for more than 10 years without any issues. However, the troubles began about five years ago when a Chinese couple moved in next door. The conflict between the couple and their daughter began when the daughter refused to renovate the fence separating the two houses. The daughter urged the Chinese couple to build a new fence on their premises instead of renovating the old one because the daughter was worried that the construction would affect the structure of her house. Arporn told the media about all the disturbing incidents. She claimed that the Chinese man stood in front of the house to prevent her daughter from going to work, that the couple often shouted vulgarities in front of the house, and that they also put their hands through the fence to open the water tap in the garden. According to Arporn, the most recent incident, that prompted her to seek help from the media, was the stone-throwing. CCTV cameras at the house show the couple throwing stones at her daughter’s house, breaking two glass windows. 16. Thailand‘s red-whiskered bulbul breeders’ association launched an appeal to the government, seeking to remove the bird from its list of protected species. The association argues that the breeding industry previously generated a substantial income for the economy, amounting to a billion baht. Suratep Boonyavatvanit, president of the association, highlighted that half a decade ago, there were approximately a million breeders and double the number of red-whiskered bulbuls in the market. However, ever since the bird was designated a protected species, which necessitates special permission for breeding them commercially, the numbers have experienced a significant downfall. Suratep pointed out that 50% of the breeders have withdrawn from the market since then. This has resulted in a decrease in the contribution to both employment and the nation’s economy, with current estimates standing at a mere 200 to 300 million baht annually. “Red-whiskered bulbuls hold value, with some even fetching six to seven figures. During the prime of the bird-breeding business, they brought in 1 billion baht annually for the economy. The supply chain employs millions of people, encompassing bird food, bird trade, and bird showcases.” By Puntid Tantivangphaisal Caption: Photo courtesy of Bangkok Post Full story: The Thaiger 2023-11-02 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 20. The potential implementation of the proposed land bridge project in Thailand could significantly benefit sectors such as contractors, industrial estates, transport, and finance, according to industry analysts. The project, which has been under discussion by various governments for four decades, aims to connect the Andaman Sea to the Gulf of Thailand, specifically via the provinces of Ranong and Chumphon. The primary motive behind the project is to reduce logistics costs by avoiding traffic in the Malacca Strait. Kasikorn Securities highlighted that if the government successfully implements this project, major beneficiaries would be industrial estates, notably WHA Corporation and Amata Corporation. These companies might acquire new plots to establish an industrial hub in the future area. 22. The Thai stock market is facing a potential slump this month, following a 6.1% drop in October and a 17.2% decline year-to-date, due to potential delays to a significant digital wallet scheme and a slower-than-anticipated recovery in the tourism sector. Such concerns are sparking significant investor anxiety, according to industry analysts. Sompong Benjathepanan, the assistant managing director at AIRA Securities, highlighted that the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index shed 100 points, making it the second-poorest global performer after Israel’s exchange. He also raised concerns about the Thai government’s economic stimulus policies. “They lack clarity in terms of funding sources.” Sompong also pointed out that recent reports hinting at a potential delay to the 10,000-baht digital wallet scheme until September could further weaken investor sentiment. “The Thai economy needs stimulus to shore up growth.” Rakpong Chaisuparakul, senior vice president at KGI Securities (Thailand), echoed Sompong’s sentiments, adding that the Thai stock market’s steeper-than-expected decline in October was due to both international and domestic negatives.
