  11. Police yesterday arrested two Thai men for the alleged brutal rape of a 15 year old girl in the central province of Kanchanaburi. The accused rapists had been imprisoned for the same crime and released only last year. A 49 year old woman named Noi contacted the Pavena Foundation for Children and Women and Panom Tuan Police Station after her 15 year old daughter, named A, was allegedly raped by two men, 34 year old Off and 31 year old Bank. Noi said her daughter had not told her about the brutal rape but had told her friends. The friends later informed her mother on October 6, who immediately filed a complaint with the police and the foundation. According to A, Off was her father’s friend, so she trusted him. Off invited her to go with him to a community festival on September 30 and she agreed. While riding to the festival on Off’s motorcycle, another man dressed as a sheriff emerged from the forest by the side of the road and threatened A with a gun. A said she did not know the identity of the other man. Off and this man took her to a hut in the middle of the rice field and brutally raped her. 13. A 12 year old girl has been missing for three continuous days under mysterious circumstances. Her distraught mother found a chat conversation between her daughter and a young man, prompting urgent police action to locate her. Concerns for her safety arose when the last CCTV footage of her was found at 10am today at Bang Na Police Station. Kanthasat Pongpaibulvech, also known as Gun Jompholung, along with the mother of the missing girl, asked Police Lieutenant Colonel Surapong Sukyaem, Bang Na Police Station’s investigation officer, for assistance. They fear the girl has been lured away and could be in danger of exploitation or human trafficking. Gun Jompholung relayed that the mother reported her daughter missing for three days. She had seen a chat conversation between her daughter and a man, who was persuading and pressuring the young girl to meet him. CCTV footage showed the girl leaving with a backpack and being taken away on a motorcycle by a man. Upon investigation, it was revealed that this man was the owner of the apartment where they lived. The girl was deceived by the man from the chat conversation, who then tricked the apartment owner into dropping her off at the Ekkamai bus terminal, claiming she was going to visit relatives in another province. Since then, she has been unreachable, leaving her mother extremely worried. Furthermore, the mother of the 20 year old man suspected of luring the girl contacted Gun Jompholung, claiming ignorance of the matter and not wanting it to become a big issue. She suggested settling the matter financially, which the girl’s parents firmly rejected, only wanting their daughter returned safely. 15. A kayaking adventure off the coast of Pattaya nearly ended in tragedy as a boat carrying a 42 year old man and a 14 year old girl capsized in the early hours of yesterday morning. The incident, which occurred at 4.30am, drew swift response from emergency services who attended the scene near Walking Street in South Pattaya, Banglamung district, Chon Buri province. The sandy beach was awash with tourists who watched in growing horror as two figures struggled to stay afloat about 200 metres from the shore. The sinking silhouette of a capsized kayak painted a chilling picture of the perilous situation unfolding. First responders raced against time to reach the pair, subsequently identified as 42 year old Nopporn Buasunthon and a 14 year old girl, known only as ‘A’ to protect her identity due to her young age. Both individuals managed to reach the safety of the shore unscathed, despite their kayak’s disastrous encounter with the waters of Pattaya. Nopporn explained that he had met the young girl and her friends by chance on the beach. She mentioned that she was on holiday and had never experienced the sea before. Engaging in the spirit of hospitality, Nopporn agreed to take her kayaking. However, their maritime adventure was cut short as their kayak began to sink. 19. A peculiar health superstitions case was shared by a renowned neurosurgeon at Chiang Mai Ram Hospital involving a 55 year old male patient who postponed a scheduled brain surgery due to astrological beliefs. The patient’s health condition involved a brain haemorrhage, caused by a fall two months ago. The neurosurgeon, Pracha Kanyaphrasith, revealed his patient’s brain was still swollen from the accident, and a scheduled surgery was intended to replace a section of his skull that had been removed. The patient, however, refused to proceed with the surgery as it fell on a day when astrologically, the planet ‘Rahu’ was transitioning. This transition, according to some beliefs, could bring misfortune. Pracha expressed his frustration over the incident, questioning why people prioritise fortune-telling over their health. “We often look to astrology for insights about our finances, jobs, homes, cars, love lives, and families. But when it comes to health, we often neglect it until the last minute.” By Nattapong Westwood Caption: Photo: Freepik Full story: The Thaiger 2023-10-20 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 25. Several airlines have introduced weight checks for passengers and their luggage before boarding to calculate standard and average passenger weight. This passenger weigh-in measure, initiated today, allows airlines to distribute weight more effectively on international flights, thus reducing fuel usage. Foreign airlines have implemented the passenger weigh-in rule to investigate and calculate standard and average passenger weight. The collected data will help them ascertain weight distribution on their international flights, contributing to reduced aeroplane fuel consumption. Previously, the Fly AirAsia Facebook page posted that during the week of October 16 to 20, at Don Mueang Airport, some flights from various airlines requested volunteer passengers to weigh themselves and their luggage to gather average weight data. This passenger weigh-in data would then be used to update and enhance service efficiency, aligning with safety standards. The airlines carried out this operation in collaboration with the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand to collect such data. Passenger weight data will be kept confidential, complying with the PDPA law. Recently, Thai Lion Air also initiated a passenger weigh-in measure. They stated that during the week of October 17 to 20, they invited passengers to contribute to average weight statistics for themselves and their luggage.
