Thailand on alert: PM’s rain mandate amid flood concerns Photo via Bangkok Post As Thailand braces for a spate of heavy rain and potential flash floods between August 10 to 15, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha initiated a stern mandate to the authorities. As Thailand braces for a spate of heavy rain and potential flash floods between August 10 to 15, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha initiated a stern mandate to the authorities. PM Prayut is urging the authorities to devise and implement necessary precautions in the wake of the forecasted weather scenario. The PM’s call to action comes amid an alert sounded by the National Water Command Centre (NWCC) about an increasingly swelling Mekong River predicted to rise until Tuesday. Conveying the PM’s distress over the anticipatory downpours, deputy government spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek said yesterday that the prime minister stresses on efficient dissemination of the latest weather updates to the people, especially those residing in flood-prone regions. The NWCC pinpointed that persistent rains in recent days have led to a considerable increase in water levels in the lower part of the Mekong River, notably affecting Bolikhamxay province in Laos. An added climatic menace is a low-pressure trough that has enveloped northern Vietnam and southern China, and is expected to unleash heavy showers in Northern and Northeastern Thailand starting today and continuing till Tuesday, reported Bangkok Post. Dhnadirek said… “Agencies functioning in eight provinces along the Mekong River have been assigned by the Prime Minister to prepare for potential floods. These provinces include Chiang Rai, Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen and Ubon Ratchathani.” By Mitch Connor Caption: Photo via Bangkok Post Full Story: https://thethaiger.com/news/national/thailands-pm-urges-readiness-as-heavy-rain-threatens-flash-floods -- © Copyright Thaiger 2023-08-10 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Thai nationals are being warned to remain vigilant in South Korea after a gruesome string of copycat knife attacks, marking an ominous rise in violence. This fear-inducing outbreak of violence saw its most recent attacks claim two lives and severely injure many others. The Thai embassy in the South Korean capital of Seoul issued an advisory for Thai nationals travelling to the Asian nation, alerting them to stay cautious amidst the crime outbreak. As per the embassy’s statement yesterday, the menace began on July 21, near Seoul’s Sillim Train Station. The sporadic chaos culminated in one fatality and three serious injuries. After this, on August 3, in a spine-chilling episode, a culprit rammed a car into a crowd before ferociously stabbing people in a shopping mall in the city of Seongnam, in Gyeonggi Province. This brutal mayhem left one person dead and wounded 13 others, reported Sanook. Thailand’s health services strain as dental appointments delay Picture courtesy of Sanook The lack of medical personnel in every department, coupled with the measly number of dentists has pushed health services to the brink in Thailand with patients finding themselves on the verge of collapse as dental appointments are pushed two years ahead. Full Story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1303212-thailand’s-health-services-strain-as-dental-appointments-delay/ -
The lack of medical personnel in every department, coupled with the measly number of dentists has pushed health services to the brink in Thailand with patients finding themselves on the verge of collapse as dental appointments are pushed two years ahead. At 9am yesterday, a caregiver, who was accompanying an 11 year old boy for tooth decay treatment, shared this grim situation. The patient was treated at a provincial hospital in Chachoengsao. After the dentist performed root canal treatment, the boy was given a second appointment, in two years’ time. The hospital advised the family that they would not schedule any appointments, instead, patients were asked to report for follow-up treatments after the two-year period. Alternatively, patients or their caretakers can also turn to private dental clinics to expedite their root canal treatments. This sparked curiosity and concerns among the public. Why did the hospital schedule the second treatment two years later? It was seen as an exorbitant waiting time, reported Sanook. From the province’s main hospital, Dr Chonticha Aromseree gave some insight. A root canal treatment requires a specialist who can dedicate roughly 1-1.5 hours per patient, spread across 2-3 sessions depending on the number of roots per tooth. Besides the lack of specialists, many patients are awaiting similar treatments. If the hospital prioritises one patient, 2-3 others would inevitably miss their treatments. To address a national healthcare predicament, the Praboromarajchanok Institute (PI), a constituent of the Thailand Ministry of Public Health, laid out a blueprint to inaugurate its faculty of medicine. This move is expected to significantly contribute to the current deficit of medical professionals around the country. Anutin Charnvirakul, the Minister of Public Health, held a meeting with operative officials of the ministry yesterday. He disclosed PI’s strategic plan to boost the density of medical personnel in their ranks, as was proposed by the institute. Striving to mitigate the overcrowding teeming in major hospital facilities, the PI’s manifesto seeks to extend comprehensive healthcare services into local communities and tambon promotional hospitals. Furthermore, it purports to tap into local resources, cultivating health volunteers within each tambon, to function as practical nursing personnel; a force that will furbish future medical services with the promise of holistic care, reported Bangkok Post. Anutin further elaborated on the multifaceted healthcare role envisaged for the to-be-formed PI’s medical faculty. “The faculty of medicine will contribute to the betterment of public health services by nurturing an adept and professional workforce.” Simultaneously, Soranit Siltharm, presiding over the subcommittee within the Consortium of Thai Medical Schools (CTMS), revealed that they are primed to commence intake procedures for a fresh batch of students. He confirmed the readiness of the 18 healthcare institutes embodied under the CTMS to admit a total of 2,380 pupils into medicine, dental surgery, veterinary medicine, and pharmacy programmes in the upcoming year. A distressing tale of abuse and threat came to light when a young Thai woman turned to the online community for assistance through a Facebook livestream. In her broadcast, she recounted the harrowing experience of being physically assaulted by her Satanist boyfriend following a visit to a fortune teller. The situation escalated to a point where the man even threatened her life, even if they were to end the relationship under the watchful eyes of the police. The 22 year old victim, Thakantida, took to Facebook on August 8 to share her traumatic experience with the public. She revealed that her 20 year old boyfriend, Kritsanat, not only subjected her to physical abuse but also confined her within a bedroom in his parent’s house located in the central province of Nakhon Sawan. This incident wasn’t the first occurrence of violence in their relationship. However, Thakantida felt unable to pursue legal action against Kritsanat due to his menacing threats. She reached out to the livestream viewers for advice on how to extricate herself from this toxic situation. Following the broadcast, Thakantida spoke to Channel 3, offering further insight into her ordeal after her story garnered significant attention within the Thai community. She disclosed the timeline of her two-year-long relationship with Kritsanat, sharing that although they had a child together, they were not officially married. Thakantida delved into the disturbing details, revealing that Kritsanat’s violent outbursts often coincided with her visits to fortune tellers. Kritsanat’s self-professed satanic beliefs clashed with Thakantida’s spiritual interests, leading to conflicts. The most recent attack stemmed from a dispute related to a fortune teller. In the heart of a quiet Bangkok residential area, a hushed invasion unfolded as a burglar stealthily moved through a household, stealing valuables with chilling precision while the homeowner, his partner and their one year old daughter slept soundly nearby. The homeowner, Anukul, a 30 year old factory engineer, woke on August 3 to find that his home, 13 Bang Yai, Nonthaburi, near Bangkok had been broken into. The intruder entered through the kitchen door, which had been left unlocked. He then rummaged through the house, stealing a cash box from the top of the bed and various items from around the room. There were two adults and a one year old child asleep in the house at the time. The stolen goods included cash, bags, and religious items. The intruder then scaled the fence to go next door to house number 12, owned by Phuttamonkon, a 32 year old businessman. They forced entry through a mosquito net at the back of the house and stole a wristwatch and car key before escaping through the fence at the back. Both victims immediately contacted the local police after the discovery of the break-ins. The placid spectacle of suburban theft was brought into sharp focus when Anukul reviewed the footage captured by his home’s security system. His concern was deeply exacerbated upon realising that his family was sleeping in their bedroom throughout the burglary, reported Sanook. A shocking discovery was made earlier today when a newborn baby was found dead floating in the Chao Phraya River near a pier. Local police are now searching for the individual who left the child. Khunakorn Kamsri, the Deputy Inquiry Official at Bawon Mongkol Police Station, says he was alerted to the incident at around 9.30am today. The dead body was spotted floating near the dock of the Rajathiwas temple located on Soi Samsen 9 in Bangkok’s Dusit district. After the baby’s dead body was brought ashore, an umbilical cord was found attached to the body, indicating that the child was a newborn. There were no visible signs of physical injury to the body. Initial assumptions estimate that the child had been dead for not less than 24 hours, reported KhaoSod. Khunakorn said… “The baby’s body surfaced in the vicinity of the dock. Our preliminary guess is that it’s a newborn baby.” The macabre discovery was initially made by a 52 year old resident, Morakot Sujintahirun. She was out for her regular morning exercise when she noticed an unidentified object floating in the water. At first, she believed it was a coconut until closer inspection revealed it was a baby. The historic region of Nonthaburi was the setting for a successful police operation, leading to the capture of a notorious gas-cylinder thief. The individual had been causing distress across the region with his exploits. The thief was eventually captured by a determined team comprising Police Captain Theeradech Thammasuthee, Assistant Police Colonel Woraphot Rungkrachang, and Assistant Police Colonel Patsadonai Karin, amongst others. Their collaborative effort led to the arrest of the culprit, a 44 year old male. The case dates back to a court order issued on July 21 from Nonthaburi province. The charge levied against the man, Kajornaboutng for his continuous stealing activity, specified his mode of operation which involved cunning and concealment strategies. He would arrive at his marked location at night riding on a vehicle, carrying off the plundered goods, thereby evading capture. The investigation revealed an unidentified man, clad in green sportswear and black shorts riding a Honda Summer X motorcycle. Parking outside shops, he effortlessly conducted his operation by stealing two 15-kilogramme gas cylinders, causing significant inconvenience to local traders, reported KhaoSod. By interviewing witnesses and carefully coordinating their efforts with nearby police stations, the investigation team discovered similarities in the physical description and vehicle details between the perpetrator and a customer from a local gas shop who was documented selling gas cylinders. The suspect’s identifying information matched that of an individual presented on an active theft warrant from the Bang Sri Mueang Police Station. The debauched actions of a pedophile school teacher have been exposed after the parents of one of his victims shed light on the alleged sex offender in the Isaan province of Chaiyaphum. The pedo teacher reportedly sexually assaulted more than 10 students under 15 years old while trying to cover his dirty deeds with cash. He even committed bigamy by marrying one of the students he had a relationship with. A victim’s parents revealed the actions of the depraved teacher to the public on Tuesday, August 8. They claimed that the community leader noted the issue but did not take any action and let the teacher work at the school like nothing had happened. The teacher remained in his position and continued sexually assaulting more schoolgirls. He was caught again and repeatedly promised to leave the school but made no move. He then blackmailed each student to keep quiet by giving them money to end the issue. The director of the Chaiyaphum Shelter for Children and Families, Pattranit Korkuson, revealed to the media that she and the relevant authorities visited each victim to assess their mental health after the disturbing experiences. Pattranit revealed more details of the issue to the media. She stated that the suspect was a physical education teacher and had close contact with the female footballers. He grabbed this as a chance to lure the athletes into having sex with him. The majority of these students are from low-income families, earning less than 3,000 baht (US$85) per month. Today the school is dispersing Equal Education scholarships, a scheme for its most impoverished students, awarding 27 scholarships of 1,500 baht each (US$43), reported KhaoSod. One pleased family, 11 year old schooler Nam Khaeng, fifth grade and her 63 year old grandma, Kemthong Wanyao, shared her satisfaction today when received a scholarship from the school. “I’m overjoyed. As I can finally pay the electricity bill. I’ve been raising my two grandchildren alone because their parents are separated. It’s just like they’re my kids.
