A Thai man on the run for 17 years after murdering a British man in Pattaya was finally arrested after a hospital checkup exposed his identity. Three other suspects involved in the crime were jailed, served their time and subsequently released. The incident occurred in 2006 when 47 year old British tourist Stephen Parkinson encountered four Thai men while riding a motorcycle on the road near Marp Prachan Reservoir in Pattaya. As soon as Parkinson realised that the four had bad intentions, he speeded up to escape. However, the criminal gang shot him in the head and stole the money of 40,000 baht from the Hull-born Brit and fled the scene. Following the murder, three out of the four suspects were apprehended and subsequently faced legal consequences. Initially, the court sentenced them to death but their penalties were later commuted to life imprisonment. Over time, all three suspects were released, leaving only one suspect remaining, 39 year old Prasetsak. Prasetsak managed to evade capture for 17 years until he suffered a stroke and was half-paralysed. He was admitted to a hospital for further treatment where his appearance was reported to the police leading to the arrest yesterday. Prasertsak denied the allegation claiming that he only went with his friends but was not involved in the murder. His mother also insisted on her son’s innocence saying Prasertsak’s drug-addicted friends spoiled him. The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) received a petition from the Thai Constitution Protection Association and officials of the May 1992 Heroes’ Relatives Committee. The petition accuses the government of PM Prayut Chan-o-cha, particularly Somkid Thepsuthin, the former Minister of Justice, of violating the Thai Constitution through the deliberate postponement of the implementation of the anti-torture and enforced disappearance law. Srisuwan Janya, secretary-general of the Thai Constitution Protection Association, joined hands with Adul Khiewboriboon, chairman of the May 1992 Heroes’ Relatives Committee, and lodged a complaint against the government of Prayut, accusing them of intentionally violating the Thai Constitution and moral standards. Somkid Thepsuthin, then Minister of Justice, proposed delaying law enforcement from February 22, 2023, to October 1, 2023. He cited the Royal Thai Police’s inability to procure and provide image-recording equipment during arrest and detention. However, 99 members of parliament challenged the said postponement as an abuse of power contrary to the Constitution. On May 18, 2023, the Constitutional Court reached a verdict, deciding with an 8-1 majority that the postponement constituted a violation. As a result, the law was deemed ineffective, and the original enforcement date of February 22 was reinstated. Thai hospital misdiagnoses man’s gallstone condition, quick intervention saves health Photo via The Pattaya News A 42 year old expatriate named Nick reached out for help on May 21 after being discharged from the hospital without a clear diagnosis of his abdominal pain. Full Story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1297064-thai-hospital-misdiagnoses-man’s-gallstone-condition-quick-intervention-saves-health/ -
A 42 year old expatriate named Nick reached out for help on May 21 after being discharged from the hospital without a clear diagnosis of his abdominal pain. He had been experiencing discomfort in his right lower abdomen and an ache in his left lower chest that radiated into his back and upper abdomen. Nick had been unwell for two weeks before being admitted to the hospital, where he underwent a series of tests and was prescribed medication for stomach spasms and irritable bowel syndrome. Nick’s test results indicated that he had raised bilirubin levels and liver damage, as well as an abnormal white cell count, suggesting inflammation or infection. The ultrasound and CT scans revealed multiple gallstones, while the colonoscopy showed mild colonic diverticulosis. Despite these findings, Nick was discharged without a definitive diagnosis, leaving him feeling unsettled and disappointed. Upon reviewing Nick’s case, it was determined that the medication prescribed to him was insufficient to address the root cause of his pain. Nick was advised to have his gallbladder removed immediately, as the obstruction caused by his gallstones was likely the source of his discomfort. Move Forward party leader Pita Limjaroenrat said Tuesday that he has allocated 42,000 shares in the iTV company, inherited from his late father, to the other heirs, to pre-empt any attempt to revive the media company as political ammunition. The embattled prime ministerial candidate is accused of holding a stake in a media company, in violation of the election law which forbids electoral candidates from owning a media firm or holding shares in such company, the penalty for which is disqualification. In his Facebook post today (Tuesday), Pita claims that the shares he inherited do not have any economic value, after iTV was delisted from the Thai stock market by the Stock Exchange of Thailand in 2014. More thunder storms with isolated heavy downpours are expected across the country today (Tuesday), while isolated very heavy showers are likely in the northeast and east and along the southwestern coast, according to the Thai Meteorological Department. These weather conditions are due to the monsoon trough, which lies across Myanmar and the north and northeast, and a low pressure cell over the middle of the South China Sea. At the same time, an active low pressure cell is covering the coast of Myanmar while a rather strong southwest monsoon is blowing across the Andaman Sea and the Gulf. About 60% of Bangkok and its suburbs are forecast to see scattered thunder storms through the afternoon and evening.
