  4. Thailand looks set to enter this year’s rainy season next Monday. It will last through to mid-October and signals the end of the long hot summer, with a forecast for about 5% less than average rainfall, according to the Meteorological Department. Most of Thailand is forecast to see more rain as high-altitude air currents, about 3.5km from the surface, will change direction to south-westerly, while the higher-altitude currents will turn easterly. These weather fluctuations are forecast to bring humidity from the Andaman Sea across the country, said the Weatherman, adding that, during June and July, Thailand may experience a shortage of rainfall, leading to droughts in some areas, especially outside irrigation zones. The incident resulted in four injuries including three university students and one woman. One of the victims is in critical condition. The 65 year old drunk driver, Charoon, was captured on CCTV crashing his Honda City sedan into a group of pedestrians who were crossing the road. Fortunately, most of the pedestrians managed to evade the collision, but Charoon’s vehicle directly struck two motorcycles situated in the front. The two riders and one passenger managed to escape the crash but were injured. Charoon did not stop at the scene. He continued driving down the road at a high speed and dragged a motorcycle along the way with him. Suddenly, Charoon crashed into another victim, a female university student, Natharat, who was walking along the road. Charoon neglected to check on the victim and proceeded to drive until his car collided with a parked sedan. A traffic police officer in front of the college quickly followed Charoon and managed to arrest him and take him to a police station for further questioning. According to the police report, Charoon had a high amount of alcohol in his system. The test result showed that he had 285 milligrams of alcohol in his blood which is a lot higher than the legal limit of 50 milligrams in Thailand. Her husband and relatives believe she was murdered. An officer from Nong Ya Sai Police Station investigated the scene at 10.30am yesterday after receiving notification from locals. The area where the tragic event occurred is a desolate spot in the middle of the rice field with a small palm leaf shelter. 16. PHOTO via Sanook Thailand‘s former transport minister Tawee Kraikupt – father of controversial politician Pareena Kraikupt – was involved in his fourth car accident in four years yesterday in Ratchaburi province, sparking concerns that the 85 year old should no longer be behind the wheel. He claims he cannot remember the collision. A Mercedes Benz driver reported that he was driving along the middle lane of the three-lane Srisuriyawong Road, near Ratchaburi City Hall, when a white sedan in the left lane suddenly made a right turn and crashed into the rear left side of the Mercedes. The victim was unaware that the driver who hit him was Tawee Kraikupt because the ex-minister failed to stop at the scene and drove off. Tawee later told the police that he was on his way to the air conditioning shop and was unaware of the collision. Tawee’s daughter Pareena Kraikupt, former Palang Pracharath MP, already sought lawyers’ help to confiscate her father’s driving license once before after he crashed his car into a pickup truck in Nakhon Pathom province, central Thailand, last year. Netizens advised her to find him a driver. Pareena said… “I want to ask any great lawyer about what to do in this case to stop my father from driving a car, as the car is not mine and my father refuses to listen to me. He refuses to listen to family members.” “I am worried. This news could be reported but I want to thank the media today for not bullying my father because those who have an old father will understand me.” Full Story: https://thethaiger.com/news/national/ex-minister-tawee-kaikupt-involved-in-another-car-crash-unaware-of-collision-2 -- © Copyright Thaiger 2023-05-18 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 18. Photo via Facebook/ MGR Online ภาคใต้ A Thai man accused officers from La Mae Police Station in the southern province of Chumphon of extorting 230,000 baht from him. He said he was falsely charged during a random road checkpoint inspection. Suwit Khamjean met with his lawyer yesterday to address the issue and took the opportunity to share his story with the media. Urging news outlets to spread awareness, Suwit hopes to catch the attention of the Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police (RTP) regarding his complaint. Suwit, who owns a garage in Surat Thani province, recounted the events of Friday, May 12 when he was en route to Bangkok, transporting a pickup car on a trailer to his brother’s garage. Upon reaching the checkpoint in Chumphon, he was instructed to halt for inspection. Suwit cooperated and provided all the necessary documents, but to his dismay, it wasn’t sufficient. According to Suwit, the officers informed him that he could not proceed with his journey unless the actual owner of the car accompanied him. Suwit tried to explain that the pickup belonged to one of his customers and that it was impractical to contact the customer in the middle of the night. Suwit said he made a call to a lawyer to ask for suggestions. He said he ended up transferring 30,000 baht to the officers to continue the journey. He said this incident marked the breaking point for him, prompting him to take a stand against the extortion he had endured. Suwit claimed that he had been extorted twice before, amounting to 230,000 baht. He disclosed that he gave the police 160,000 baht two years ago. The second extortion occurred on March 4 of last year, but he did not mention how much he had paid. 20. A senate committee set up a working panel on Thursday to study controversial issues related to Move Forward’s leader and potential prime minister Pita Limjaroenrat, including his anti-establishment position. The Senate committee on political development and public participation will complete its work in one month and submit the results to the Election Commission (EC), said committee member Chadej Insawang. Pita’s party won the largest share of parliamentary seats in the recent general election, making him eligible to be the country’s prime minister. He is in the process of forming a coalition to govern, which could amass a voting bloc of 313 votes in the House. He needs 376 members in a joint sitting to vote for him to become the prime minister. Pita is facing another obstacle on his path to the premiership, as the EC is investigating an allegation that Pita holds 42,000 shares in ITV Plc, which is a media firm. The Constitution prohibits owners or shareholders of media firms from running for political office.
